Hi all, Just wondering if someone could let me know the closest available flying school to the Gold Coast in QLD? We're heading there on holidays in a couple of weeks and I'm quite keen to go up for a look around. I'd prefer somewhere with Jab's, however anything will do. Cheers.

Hi Everyone, I am getting back to to flying after a few years off and intend to go on and complete my PPL and CPL. I have the choice of purchasing a David Clark H10-13.4 headset for around $350, or an 'as new' Bose Aviation X for about $670. I would be interested to hear your thoughts on whether the Bose would be worth the extra $300 odd dollars over the David Clark? I am guessing that in something like a Jabiru which isn't all that loud there may not be a lot of difference between the two in noise cancellation but given that I'll likely be flying larger aircraft moving forward this is probably not worth considering too much. Hi All, I am getting back in to completing my licence after a few years of 'very limited' time in the air (less than 2 hours a year in total). I have around 45 hours with approx 4 solo in mostly Jabirus, I only have a couple of hours dual in GA aircraft at this stage. As I am now looking at completing my PPl/CPL I have decided to go down the GA path, my theory is that either of these GA aircraft will be a bit easier to fly than the Jab so it should take less hours to pick it all back up. I also don't think it will be much more expensive than going with the RAA option first as I already have the required number hours, just have to get up to speed and cover off a couple of things. I have the choice of a Piper Tomahawk at around $220 and hour dual or a fairly new Cessna 172SP for $290 an hour dual. I am not sure which option to go with. Obviously, the Tommy is cheaper, however I am not sure whether this will end up being the case overall. I'm thinking that the Cessna will be able to do a couple more circuits in an hour as well? Seeing as though getting my GFPT is just a matter of getting fully back up to speed and getting a couple more hours solo time I am wondering which aircraft I'd be best to go with. I'm guessing that the Tommy won't be overly suitable for doing my NAV's in either? I would really appreciate any advice you might have for me. Cheers, Chris.

Hi Everyone I am currently considering the purchase of a damaged Jabiru and was hoping to get the opinion of people who might know a bit more than me about the repairs required and the cost. The Jab in question can be viewed here: Jabiru SK For Parts or Repair - eBay, Aircraft, Aircraft, Cars, Bikes, Boats. (end time 09-Dec-09 09:01:07 AEDST) From what I have been able to gather the engine 'should' be ok and if so the main items that seem to require repair/replacement are the windows and fibreglass on the underbelly. It also needs one new wing, landing gear and struts. If anyone could give me some advice on whether this looks repairable and what the approximate costs would be it would be really appreciated. Hi all, I'm just hoping to get a few thoughts on which aircraft out of the J160 or J230 would be best to complete flying training in. I have heard that the J230 is more stable and a bit more forgiving when landing. Many thanks Chris

Hi Shags Notice that you've just had your first flight in a J160. Going back to my post from last week regarding whether my father should train in the J160 or a C172 i'd be really interested to hear your thoughts, now that you have flown both. He's trying to weigh up whether he'll need more hours in the Jabiru to become competent compared to the C172 as this may offset the extra cost of the 172 if less hours will likely be required to become competent. The weight shouldn't be too much of a problem. However, the instructor has said that he would rather not do the Nav's in the J160. Said it's quite a handful as the Jab doesn't fly as well 'hands off' as the 172. Your thoughts??

Thank you for all the useful information. Would the Jabiru be considered more difficult to fly and therefore take longer to pick up than the 172??

Hi Everyone! My father is looking to complete his pilots licence/certificate and is trying to decide between going via the RAA route in a J160 or GA in a C172. The Aero Club offers training in both. As I completed my licence in a LSA/J160 i'm not able to give him any information on the C172 differences. He has been told that it is likely that he will pick things up more quickly in the Cessna and may infact go solo and pass his GFPT in less hours than if he were flying the J160. The cost difference per hour is approx $75 to $80. If there is anyone here who might be able to give an opinion on which way may be best option it would be much appreciated. I've let him know that he is able to convert either way at a later stage but his thoughts are that going with GA first off may work out at a similar cost if he is able to complete the GFPT in less hours.
