  1. Hi Steve I didn't answer because I did mine 27 years ago and things have changed since the olden days. Good luck with the rest.
  2. What if she's an Airline Blond? That's blond ontop with a blackbox?
  3. Look's like Freddy's shinny new 802.
  4. I don't "Hang out", I "Check out". :D
  5. Maybe too much elevator? For rotation to take off you don't use full elevator. If you use too much elevator too early, all it does is cause a lot of drag from the high angle of attack.
  6. There's about 5 Skycranes out here this year, don't know where "Elvis" was based or if it was the same machine that had the rotor strike. Every Skycrane in the world is called Elvis these days according to the press.
  7. I heard on the news that "It got stuck in a tree". At a minimum with a blade strike in a machine like that would be all new blades and gearbox, bad strike would be rotorhead and mast. Looking at lowest cost of repair @ $200,000. Won't take long to get back at $25,000 a day plus on top of that $12,000 an hour while it flys.
  8. "Big ole Jetplane' or something like that, Steve Miller Band. One pretty late release from James Raine "To Live is to Fly"
  9. Here's some Strayliyan boys at work http://www.trevoredwardsllc.com/showvideolg.php
  10. Chainsaw can you do a pair about 250mm across? Just paper or maybe cardboard for hard wearing, some medals would help too, maybe the "First solo","Hundred hour" and "Been flying for a year" medals, they would do. This lot worn with my white instructors shirt, old school tie (I won't mention the things on my shoulders with 17 stripes) will impress the crap out of people as I primp and parade round the Airfield and getting groceries. :D
  11. That's why I put a :D on it. The was an element of truth there though, for the blokes who wear them and have been in the game for a long time as you said have earned them. I think the idea has been debased by people flying 172's using them, bus/taxi/train drivers and people flying 172's using them. Your quote of "So my advice to up and coming airline pilots is th watch, listen and learn. Don't be in too much of a hurryto rush into command until you soak up some real knowledge from your elders. It is called a rite of passage called apprentiship; don't sell yourself short." rings true in any industry, I would add you never know everything, even somebody who has been in the industry a long time. I have been flying for a living for 26 years, every day I fly I still learn, that's why I'm Student Pilot. I might add I don't wear epaulettes.
  12. The answer to that is don't, get somebody to go and look at it. You might be buying a money pit, you could be looking at upwards of $10,000 for covering/engine/prop/instruments. 360 hours of unmaintained time is enough to stuff an Airframe, why did he decide to scrap the Aircraft? I would not spend even $900 on something unseen. If you keen you'd have to go and pick it up anyway so take your money and somebody who knows what to look for, if all's well then grab it. The thing is not to look at it stary eyed, for the money it could cost to rebuild you could buy something flying in good nick. There are some good deals around at the moment, Thrusters with 582's in good condition for $15,000, you could easily spend that rebuilding and 800 hours of your time doing it. On the other hand IF (that's a big IF) the Airframe is in good condition and you have a very limited budget, you could get the thing flying with lots of your time and a second hand 503, some access to knowledgable help for maybe $5,000.
  13. Last time I heard it was at fighter world at Williamtown.
  14. Dave, do you wear them just when your flying (private) or only when your working? (flying or instructing). Some companies it's part of the garb, it's the uniform. It seems to me to have little relevance when taxi/train/bus/ferry/tram drivers all wear them. I apologize if I've offended you Dave.
  15. 1 bar means your a wanker 2 bars means your a wanker, the same for 3 and 4 if your in GA. The Airlines tend to think it means something but usually it just means your a wanker. :D
  16. I recieved mine two weeks after my two month extension ran out, so don't spect it anytime soon. :(
  17. The video footage had the Aircraft with a heavy trail of smoke.
  18. No idea but I doubt it, what model was the last incident?
  19. Wouldn't be the first time some of the know it alls on prune got it wrong, if it was a fire you think they'd have maybe done a mayday? These fume problems have been ongoing since the 146 was first produced. There has been action to try to fix the problem but nothing will be done. Crews have been debilitated pax have been affected, I'm sure there are still crew not being able to work from problems with fumes. The fumes are turbine engine oil fumes and are extremely toxic. CASA says no problem. You would think if there is a serious prang with multiple fatalities then CASA would be responsible for not fulfilling it's "duty of care".
  20. The ole fumes in the cockpit that's no problem according to CASA and the manufacturer.
  21. Bin using GPS since 1996, not really a new thing.
  22. I remember 89 and the trauma, was very disapointed in the Federal Government at the time. You don't see them stepping in with the military when doctors withdraw their services. I also remember the long haul blokes not standing with their domestic counterparts, it will come back to bite them. There are still pilots working with dodgy Airlines overseas, is there still a blacklist? The state of the domestic Airline industry is a direct result from 89, paying for interviews, training and endorsments. When I started flying it was with the intention of going AG flying, I had mates went the Airline way. One was with Ansett when the feaces hit the rotating offset blades, he went overseas for years, now working with Singapore out of Maroochy in 45's (or was last time I talked to him). I hadn't really thought of Airlines for myself, I enjoy flying too much. I have earned about a tenth of the money but enjoyed have my career immensely.
  23. It's good to see people who fly/flew for a living still with a passion for Aircraft. You see a lot of people flying just for the uniform or big dollars (not so big these days), I call them prostitutes, only doing it for money, if their not payed they aren't interested. If your keen on flying you do it whenever you can, ultralight/GA/Gliders whatever, if you in the air your in front of everyone else.
