Flying is safe as long as your not a d**khead and treat the aircraft with respect. Never fly outside your experience, training and limitations.

A Qantas flight from Melbourne to Dubai has back-tracked to Sydney Airport after flying halfway across the country before encountering engineering problems. The A380 landed at Sydney Airport about 6.50am on Tuesday, more than eight hours after it left Melbourne. A Qantas spokesman said there had been a "slight vibration issue" with one of the engines on the QF9 flight. http://www.smh.com.au/business/aviation/qantas-melbourne-to-dubai-flight-circles-for-hours-before-returning-to-sydney-20160404-gnydy4.html

BOEING has run into more problems with its 787 Dreamliners, including fears a problem with airspeed data displays could send aircraft into a mid-flight dive. The United States Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has taken the rare step of issuing a safety directive to pilots flying Dreamliners, warning them to avoid abrupt flight-control commands because of unreliable airspeed indicators. http://www.news.com.au/travel/travel-updates/concerns-raised-over-incorrect-airspeed-data-readings-on-boeing-787-dreamliners/news-story/61af275009c273532dbefd6d0f6ac64a

So not sure, but you could be right. the accident happened on Bald Hills Road Tarwin Lower but Geoff Goldsmith and Michael Carmichael have there Fish Creek strip on Harding & Lawsons Road Fish Creek so there is a fair distance between the two.
