  2. You can get clip on ones http://www.jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?ID=LF1294&keywords=ferrite&form=KEYWORD they are a lot bigger generally but you can put a wrap in the line and run the wire through twice. Beyond the noise is the head set working... can you hear and talk with it? Photos might help us resolve the issue
  3. Sounds like EMI or RF interference: I would add ferrite rings to everything http://www.jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?ID=LF1250&keywords=ferrite+suppression&form=KEYWORD and use a noise filter on the power line http://www.biasboating.com.au/product_p/4844.htm
  4. They both work because you are still creating a correct vector diagram, however asking a different question: one asks to indicate the drift you are encountering (flying dog) the other the correction for drift (ossie). Simply, all you have done is move the reference to a different point, above or below the datum, the maths is exactly the same you are just asking a different question, for a different answer, that requires the opposite application (as the reference is opposite).
  5. Hence heading offset to the right (+degrees for true heading) so his estimation is correct
  6. 2. None really... I understand there is a lot of discretion for the CFI (RAA) for a person with experience. If they are of the opinion that you meet the standard and sign you off... then you are signed off. 3. See above, however some specific endorsements will need to be represented by actual RAA training: Low Performance and Low Level for example. Don't know RE 1, 4 and 5.
  7. She'd have my bags packed in less than 5 minutes...
  8. Always Pud... I have a permanent search/e-mail service from real estate sites for land in my prefered areas, alas, I don't lie when I say my wife won't leave the big smoke... gee I will miss her
  9. Frank's (farri) place Couldn't resist a better look at the shed
  10. Sounds like something I could live with... a shed with some airstrips thrown in, unfortunately I can't even get the wife out to Toowoomba, not much chance for FNQ, but thanks for the offer
  11. Nice work Pud getting this one started and to all those adding photo's. AAHH Frank the luxury of having all that land and all those strips
  12. Great power to weight on it!

    Wire V's Strus Braced

Just a bit dry then Frank and not the best soil as it sits on higher ground... been a bit of rain since then and that strip looks grand... as do most in SE Qld ATM
  15. Entirely understandable and I am not surprised it is unserviceable with the recent wet weather... oh well I just have to overfly enroute back to Boonah from Dalby. PS Just got this e-mail as I sent notice to Trevor this morning about my attendance... For the FIRST time since commencing our Clifton Fly Ins in 1982, we have to advise you that our 2012 Clifton Fly In has had to be cancelled due to a flooded airfield. 30 years is not a bad record. Last night, Wednesday, we had a very local storm that dumped 33 mm of rain on the runway and surroundings, resulting in flood water washing over the runway. This water is now lying pooled on the centre line about half way along the runway and is 50 mm deep. During the big floods in December 2010, a dam burst upstream of the runway, which has put about 100 mm of silt on the middle point of the strip and changed the water flow. With the continuing wet weather over the past year we have been unable to right the problem. Hopefully we can achieve repairs in the next few months. As an aside, the strip was in perfect condition and we were all set up ready to go. Book in your calendar the Clifton Fly In on 9th and 10th March 2013. See you around. Call in some day. Wire V's Strus Braced

I have found (perhaps obviously) a slightly better cruise speed and fuel economy in the SB; but not so much that you want to worry about it if you had the choice between two comparable WB and SB aircraft. As mentioned the SB will float on a little more on landing in ground effect, personally I love that. SB is heavier (maybe 10-15kg in comparable aircraft of similar vintage?), you can notice the extra weight, among other things I suppose, as the WB just feels more nimble, but once again not so much I would worry about it to any extent. I just like the SB 'look' and not having to dodge as many wires when negotiating around the aircraft back seat and loading up etc) is a real plus... you get used to it for sure, but once you have an SB the WB 'dance' is a bit of a nuisance . Of course the 55 rego is good to have for value adding I reckon... SB...WB whatever just get one
  18. Fly in CANCELLED! See posts below...
  19. Hi Mark, Why do you think Ozrunways is overpriced? ... I am the complete opposite, I think it is the best value for money application... actually, aviation product I have ever bought.
  20. I am going to change over the float switch in my Drifter belly tank, it is a just hole in the side of the tank through which the threaded end protrudes to put the nylon nut on. On the inside there is a rubber washer which seals via pressure from tightening the nut. I am contemplating putting something on the outside to help ensure a seal from fuel leaking around where the thread protrudes. What product should I use? I have some Stag Joining Paste which was recommended to me... any other suggestions? Cheers
