  1. Think I will just request a clearance from ATC which in my past experience, shouldnt be a problem. They will be able to identify me on Radar from my transponder return and be glad to assist!
  2. Ok so I have a TRIG Mode S Transponder. From memory cost about $2500 back in 2014. It’s calibrated with the Encoder, and transmits my Rego, Alt, and airspeed. Has its own HEX Code obviously. It’s the small one that fits in the instrument hole and is a companion to my TRIG VHF Radio. I believe I satisfy the requirement to operate in Class E from my reading of the requirements.
  3. Will a Mode S Transponder get you into Class E without a clearance? just trying to get my head around all this
  4. Ive done it. Happy to brief you on procedures, its not difficult! PM me with your number if you wish. Its great fun!
  5. Is that an informed observation, or your personal opinion?
  6. Ross As Skippy said, as long as your pax are with you, no prob
  7. Bear in mind that Camdens fuel bowser us AirBP Carnet only, so unless you have a card, you will need to borrow one from the local flying school and pay them cash for whatever fuel you purchase. Make sure you check availability and type of payment at any proposed landing places
  8. Never had a prob with Willy. And see my comments about weekends.
  9. The pic below was taken from a Airservices or CASA Flying School wall chart a couple of years ago. Need to check if its still valid and applicable. As I said, read Notams and Contact Briefing Office on the day
  10. Point taken Skippy, As Roundsounds said, Victor 1 is not hard, but can be challenging st 500ft in turbulent conditions! Here is another scenario.... Fly to Camden, land and refuel. The Controllers at Camden are very helpful and all you have to say is UNFAMILIAR with Camden and they will talk you in. Then, Camden to Prospect Resv (easy to find), across to Parramatta, again easy to find with its high rise buildings and Rosehill Racecourse, then up the lane to Patonga. There are very good briefing notes on navigating the Lane, and strobe lights at Pennant Hills to keep you on course. At weekends, you may find that Williamtown is released to 1000ft coastal, so you can remain in Class G along the beach. The Briefing Office and Notams will confirm this on the day. My offer to elaborate on the above remains if you wish.
  11. This Pilot has a RPL and a NAV Endorsement! Said he operates at Canberra in Controlled Airspace.... he is not a Student. My aim was to talk to him about the Sydney basin and get a feel for his experience/ confidence.
  12. Skippy why did you give je a CAUTION note?
  13. I have operated in the Sydney basin for many years and would be happy to brief you on procedures. PM me if you wish with your phone number, happy to help.
  14. And just for something different if all else fails, photo is a Windshield Antenna kit. One end to a Handheld comm, the rubber duck antenna on the other end and it sticks anywhere on a plexiglass surface. I have one, not tried in flight yet, but in the Jab you can attach the antenna to a rear window. Just a thought!!
  15. I use my Dynon D2 pocket panel efis to give me gps ground speed, altitude, track, and slip/skid info. Dynon also say that the instrument is not certified for IFR ops. Like others have said, I cannot understand why the Glider in the Video did not have any attitude indicator at all. Is this normal for Gliding Ops?
  16. Have a read about the Dynon D3 instrument and you may change your view.
  17. Its actually a CASA safety video.
  18. I agree, and endorse an earlier post which recommends reading “178 seconds to live”.
  19. Great! Enjoy it.
  20. Congratulations Shajen. What model is it?
  21. Well said. Agree completely.
  22. Reply just posted.
  23. It showed cockpit video of a Glider, being flown very close to extensive cloud. On the left was large buildups, on the right was large areas of cloud free sky. A voice behind the Student (or Pilot) was giving track guidance and suggested a left turn which took the aircraft into cloud. Control was lost shortly after and panic seemed to take over. The Camera fell upside down and i think recovery was made shortly after exiting cloud. Thats my recollection.
  24. Noticed video has been deleted
  25. Yes I saw plenty of opportunities for a right turn into clear air! Unbelievable lack of judgement i reckon.
