Just went up again after a little hiatus...those Jabs really do get flung around up there! All that heat yesterday made for some strong thermals. We couldn't even climb past 3000ft! She just wouldn't go! Still it was nice to get back up...no landings this time though. Cheers all Brodie:yin_yan:

I have recently started working with skydivers and they mount an SLR on top of a helmet, and a mini dv on the side. The shutter is activated with a cable release that the jumper bites down on. 403 Forbidden= Try some of these sites. cheers Brothach:yin_yan:

What will they get if you plod thru life doing what you have to make ends meet? A very unhappy you. Better to try it out than to never know and always wonder! You have a skill to fall back on and the determination to try something risky...go for it! I have just recently done something similar...4 kids and the sole bread winner and I left a secure, well paid retail position to take up a slightly lower paid (so far, I'm told that will change) job which gets me into aviation again (i used to be a Blackhawk AME in the ARA). One of the scariest things I have done for a while but gee it makes you know you're alive! Good luck with it all...I'm sure you'll be fine! Brothach

See the Olympics...See the smog inside the swimming thing?! The developing world wants to enjoy the comforts we give to ourselves...and if they all get it we will have some serious pollution! And who do we think we are if we try to tell them they cant? We could spend some of the billions (that go to all of the useless wastes of money that we have all heard about, and are sick of hearing about) to really wipe it all up! As humans we think of it, and then we make it happen...think submarines (Jules Verne), helicopters (DaVinci)..etc. If you build it they will come! Then lets build it and not have to drive to the country for some fresh air! It really is for our own good. You dont need to subscribe to any of the popular reasonings for it...substantial or not...it just feels like the right thing to do! And it's within our grasp...we are our only hurdle. just re-read and realized i have started to babble...too much to try to articulate, in a small span of attention. Namaste Aviphiles Today I did my first landing (mostly unassisted). I was very happy with the approach...correct my aim with rudder...speed with attitude...height with power...straight down like a dart - fly it in! But add some power for a touch and go and you really see the effects of the left yaw tendancy! Gets the heart pumping for a newby like me! I was told during and afterwrds that I did quite well, so im happy. But im sure we left a big snaky up the strip!! It was a moment of clarity for me... Like when I first drove (15 y.o) my mums car while they were on holiday, and realised that watching it done, and doing it, are two completely different things ('nuf said there)!! Today reminded me that reading about it in the BAK book and playing on your flight sim are NOTHING like doing it for real! Makes you know you're alive! I love it! I cant wait for the next lesson!! I would dig a little charter service out of somewhere beautiful...i dunno...over the reef or something, in the mountains...maybe even the westpac chopper or a crop duster...you know...just to be up there and be paid for it! Me too!!! I have a burning desire to do exactly this!! I know i'll never afford it any other way and would love to know how one goes about 'applying'? Any suggestions bateo? I am also a 'mature age' applicant at 35, but have a background in aviation and i think i would be an asset to whomever wanted to train me (hmm not in the interview yet!!). Great job on VOZ!! I have the FS9 and FSX versions and have to say the FS9 is fantastic. The FSX is still in its infancy and I cant wait to see where it goes after a few upgrades. Next is to get a PC that runs it to my satisfaction!! I'm glad to hear someone else is simming to train, not just for fun. You may have read my post on simming relevance, and to hear the VOZ author is cool with it it encouraging. Keep up the good work mate and thanx again. Brothach

Hey Flyer40, Thanx for the feedback. Yeah saving like mad but every time I get an amount in the bank something happens...car, relatives wedding interstate etc!! In the mean time I have bought the GFPT training pack from Air Services (the red box with BAK, radio, log etc) so I can get a headstart on the real thing. I have 4 kids so the cash doesnt flow too freely:sad:. Waiting for an inheritance to clear and I can start! I would rather be able to continue training rather than do some hours and stop because of no money! I imagine those hours would then be a waste as I would have to play catchup? I understand the flight dynamics are all wrong...as you said, just to practice circuits etc. And the ocassional 747 into St. Maartens or LAX or wherever! :big_grin: Cheers Brothach:yin_yan:

Namaste Aviphiles, I have been simming now for a while as I cant yet afford to fly and was curious to know your opinions on whether the sims are any good as a substitute. I enjoy the 'experience' of the sim while I cant fly, and it keeps the passion going but am I kidding myself thinking that it will actually help when I get to the real thing? Procedures etc? I use MS FSX and FS9. They seem pretty realistic! What are your thoughts? Please dont shoot me down if this is a dumb question...I'm a noob!:hittinghead: Brothach:yin_yan:

Hey all, great thread... just wondering...when you say "fly the plan' before you fly the plane do you mean in your head or on a sim like MS FS? (sorry if this is obvious but I'm very new to all this!) Maybe I should have posted this in the sim section but I have been wondering if in anyones experience these sims are realistic or not? I can only fly in simland atm as the moneytrain hasnt quite arrived and was curious if I was actually getting any benefit from that? sorry for off topic Brothach

Thanx for the welcome. I have been into aviation for as long as i can remember (childhood dream and all). Did a couple of hours as a teen. Im an ex-Army AME (blackhawk-mech) and the best part of the job was the test flights!! I remember doing AFCS testing out of 5AVN (only time ive ever been airsick!) and live firing EX at Rattlesnake island (T'ville)....TAC flying to target with tracer rounds starting fires all over the place!! What a rush!! I would put my hand up to be 'ballast' at every opportunity!! I have no doubt at all I will love it as I only have 30yrs or so left to work and I'll be damned if I'm gonna do it in retail!! Time for the change NOW!! My flight school has a starter pack which I will have to check the contents of before I buy. Cant wait. Very glad ive found this forum to search on the way....seems like a valuable resource. During my time in the defence force, any flight that involved any time over or near water was lifejacket time....imagine surviving a ditch just to drown afterwards! (touch wood etc...) Have a great time and take some pics too!!! Brodie.
