  1. Engine debris from the affected A380 has been located and recovered about 150 km SE of Paamuit on the SW coast of Greenland . The recovery was made by a Air Greenland helicopter and will be examined by the Danish authorities before being sent to Paris . The race is on now to locate and recover other engine parts before snow falls and covers them . The location was determined using data from one of the aircrafts Flight Data Recorders . Dave C
  2. My sentiments exactly Phil , I am glad though you didn't include Brum on your list . That just would do at all would it aer kid .. Dave C
  3. Phil ... probably Beauvais I would imagine . I remember flying from Brum to Shannon a few years back , the airfare was £5 , but the boarding pass printed at the airport was to be £40 ! .. needless to say I did an online check in and printed my own , and they charged me for that too !, Dave C
  4. . Try Concept Aviation at Bankstown . They have an online ordering system and stock all your charts as well as lots of other pilot supplies . A Google search will find them . Hope this helps . Dave
  5. I loved the VC10 too . I distinctly remember the last time I saw one in the air . It was about 5 years ago , driving up the M5 motorway in England near Gloucester when one flew overhead probably enroute to RAF Brize Norton . I said to my wife " take a look , you'll never see another one flying " , sadly that was the case .. A.British classic . Dave
  6. Cessnock Airport in the Hunter Valley is surrounded by wineries . Dave
  7. The last few times I've flown with Emirates and Qatar Airways there's been a prayer from the Holy Quran on the IFE screen before departure , so it still happens , just slightly different in its delivery . Dave
  8. I don't know whether the F35 is any good or not , but what I do know is that some of this footage is not even F35 related . Some of the footage is of the F22 , a completely different aircraft and one that's been successful in USAF service for a number of years now . Dave
  9. I do too , so that makes 3 of us .. BTW Thermix , do you happen to drive a Black Nissan van ? ... I just happened to see one in Picton yesterday with a Thermomix sticker attached .. Dave
  10. From your thread title , I assume you are contemplating taking RA training at The Oaks airfield near Camden , is that correct ? ... there's no connection in the thread title to the content of your post . Dave
  11. Knowing " The Green " like you Phil , I was surprised to read that 10 was the preferred runway for the Vampire departure . 16 would have been a better bet , it's longer and presumably stronger as it does handle regular exec jets . I suppose the wind must have dictated 10 ... I know a few Gypos who would more than happy to go out there with a shovel or two of Tarmac for a few quid .. Dave
  12. Indeed he was a lovely, kind and generous bloke . I knew him for a long time. , always had time and a good word to say about fellow aviators . He leaves a wife and young daughter I understand . R.I.P my old mate . Dave
  13. The weather was perfect flying weather , nil cloud , hardly any wind and viz almost unlimited . Weather could not have been an issue . Dave
  14. I understand it was .. however , I dont know the identity of the deseased .
  15. News footage clearly shows the registration . The aircraft is a Drifter Fisher Mk1 Sport . I believe I know the pilot , and at this stage I can't confirm his identity or whether he is the deceased . RIP ..
  16. The first two RAAF F35's arrived at Amberley on Monday afternoon . I was at the RIAT at RAF Fairford in the U.K. , where there were 6 F35's displayed . According to sources there , each F35 required 14 air to air refuelling top ups to make the non stop flight across the North Atlantic . I wonder how many tops ups the Aussies ones had for their Pacific crossing ?
  17. OME , I saw the two L39's about 2.25pm . They were climbing out over what looked like Harrington Park as I was driving , or rather , crawling along on Narellan Rd . They appeared to climb out in close formation in a SW direction , I guessed at the time towards Warragamba .
  18. I appears the first two F35's will be at the Avalon show in March . Static only .
  19. Interestingly the Red Star had been " photoshopped " out in the first photo ..
  20. Oh look , a pig just flew over ..
  21. $30,000 to RAAus too ..
  22. It is Birmingham . The runway is 3000M long and with the compression effect of a long focal length lens the undulations seem very accentuated . In reality the runway is relatively flat . I have flown into and out of there many times .
  23. It's a loff ay it aer kid . Translations can be arranged at a price .
  24. I've just returned from the inaugural OzKosh and I fully endorse all the comments here . It certainly exceeded my expectations and I was duly impressed . Well done to all the organisers , and looking forward to the next ..
  25. The 777X will have a 71M wingspan , well short of the 80M of the current day A380 which doesn't have folding wings , also of interest the 777 has always had a folding wing option , but no airline has ever ordered the variant . Dave
