  1. I was wondering if the drift to motorcycles was related to my avatar? I am a Motorcyclists and am over 60 ride a R1250 GSA and wasn't a late returner buying a Hardley just to feel young. Things that are related though, flying like riding is a skill, skills need constant practice , I find as I age I need more practice to stay in tune so perhaps this is the link. As for the new "old" Hardley riders this is about skills never learnt and not respecting that the result can be fatal ,

  4. Will be good when the Alpha is repaired. Only the Jabs operating at present. That Alpha is a very nice aircraft and my preferred choice. Have done quite a few hrs in the 230 Jab but for local stuff I like the Alpha. Good to see you are well on the way with Bruce, I also enjoy his instruction.
  5. I can recommend Bruce. I also returned to flying after a long break , did have PPL . I also fly at Jaspers but you are limited to weekends. Liz is good . Jaspers use a Brumby , Bruce only has Jab's available at present.
  6. Just noticed this on Tube:
  7. Have a friend building one
  8. Just goes to show you can't trust what you read.
  9. Thks Pylon a great explanation that coincides with my experience flying a Jab. Backlash and clunk plus a difficult plane to trim sums up my experience.
  10. So are they stronger? Than the alternatives?
  11. I am new to this and would like to understand the strength dynamics of these cables. I see them used in Jabs but wonder how strong they are compared.to cables I. Tension.
  12. Don't know if this is the right place to post this, but maybe I'll get a hit. Will be in UK and parts of Europe next month and would like to do some flying. Any one have any ideas on where I can hire with instructor in Scotland, Amsterdam , Rome areas ? Thought it may be neat to site see from the sky?
  13. Well I have just returned from QLD. Got to fly out of Gympie as a PAX and was introduced to the great flying available to the QLD flyer fraternity . Many airstrips in the coastal regions which would make getting around quite nice. Being in the region I also took the opportunity to be type checked in a Savannah by Neil at GoFly at their Caboolture base. I have never seen so many RA machines in all my days at the one place what an interesting part of the world Caboolture is for RA life .
  14. I was quite interested in the Lightning and started the usual web search etc. I think I did contact the deal of the century one advertised and was told it had some repairs required, front landing gear, and on further enquiries told a Camit engine was to be fitted. The Camit would not be considered a Jab motor, I contacted Camit to enquire if it was bolt on bits or total new engine, and it is the later. Quite a few accidents, but with a high end plane this may be expected especially with low time low experienced pilots. Dan Johnson does give it a good review, but then again does he give bad ones? There are ADs required on the plane , I assume that these will be checked by buyer. I think the plane offered is a very attractive buy for the right person , especially if it checks out .
  15. Thanks for this really good info, now filed in my Nav and Weather bookmark.
  16. THE CONFESSION:Hi Bob, This is Alan next door. I’m sorry buddy, but I have a confession to make to you. I've been riddled with guilt these past few months and have been trying to pluck up the courage to tell you to your face, but I am at least now telling in text as I can’t live with myself a moment longer without you knowing. The truth is, I have been sharing your wife, day and night when you're not around. In fact, probably more than you, particularly in the mornings after you've left for work. I haven’t been getting it at home recently, but that's no excuse I know. The temptation was just too much....I can no longer live with the guilt and I hope you will accept my sincerest apologies and forgive me. I promise that it won't happen again. Regards, Alan. THE ACTIONS:Bob, feeling anguished and betrayed, immediately went into his bedroom, grabbed his gun, and without a word, shot his wife twice, killing her instantly. He returned to the lounge where he poured himself a stiff drink and sat down on the sofa. He took out his phone to respond to the neighbor's text and saw he had another message: THE REPLY:Hi Bob, This is Alan next door again. Sorry about the slight typo on my last text, I expect you worked it out anyway, but as I’m sure you noticed, my predictive text changed ‘WiFi’ To ‘Wife’. Technology hey?!? Hope you saw the funny side of that. Regards, Alan.

  17. In the second picture you can see the Strip as well as the Shoalhaven river. The strip was under water a few weeks back and you can see water off the prop in the photo which is a pool just in front of the strip. The water was flowing like a river and all the aircraft had to be dragged to higher ground. The river, creek, under the plane is the creek that flows into the town of Berry , and joins the Shoalhaven river. Very nice area to fly around, but is in the middle of a mostly active navy zone so week ends are the go most of the time.

Aerial shot shows the airfield approaching from the North. Had a good weekend got some time in the Pipistrel on the Saturday and Brumby on the Sunday.
  19. Well I now know a little more about the Hornet. Notice the slats, was just reading the pros and cons of Vortex Generators seemed to be some consensus that the VG's allowed same STOL performance but with less drag ? I have only seen one flying example and that was when I flew in to the Glenn Innes club B B q last year. I really like the looks of the hornet but think 75 cruise would be a little slow for me. Very nice plane and you have lots of good reason to enjoy, I often think that years ago people toured Australia in Tiger Moths.
  20. Love the tail dragger, haven't seen one in OZ yet. Have flown the trainer heaps and really like it except I get a very sore ar$e after about 1 hour. Have also flown in the long wing version as a passenger same rear end problem !
  21. Notice the Hornet , I made a visit to the factory about a month ago. The boss wasn't in but had a great tour of the aircraft and how they do things by the off sider, who if I remember was a retired LAME ? was very impressed by the build quality of the aircraft shown. Was thinking that the only issues would be the need for a more powerful engine based on my assumptions. They had an orange tandem seat aircraft in that they were doing up for sale, it looked a treat . I image going anywhere in these air craft would be quite slow, is this your experience?
  22. I had a new 1200 Multi Strada, and yes the engine was fantastic, a very fast motorcycle, 160 BHP on mine with some changes . But take it off road and it tended to break up , wind noise well ergonomically it just wasn't great for long days in the saddle. I sold it last year as I tended to ride the BM more.
  23. Also noticed a Super Stol in the Photo above ? I have a mate who is currently building one , they are quite impressive based on the you tube files I've seen. Is it owned by a club member ?
  24. Well I 'm a fan of two wheels , currently have a R1200GS , but have had an affair with Italian twins. The avatar is just about bikes I really like the Guzzi's but they really need to come into the 21st century, would own one then . I do a lot of bike miles , have ridden around Oz , and do quite a few long trips each year . Seems many pilots share the freedom of motorcycling , and you know what they say , driving a car is like watching a movie, riding a motorcycle is being in the movie.
  25. A beautiful part of Australia Quirindi , hope to fly low over here in the not to distant future. Have spent a life time driving past on the way to Moree from the big smoke.
