  1. Findan Welcome. You may like to check out Skee's thread here :- http://recreationalflying.com/threads/and-a-savannah-s-in-sweden.110953/ His is the only one that I know of. What motor were you using?
  2. Frank I stand corrected, yes it was pushed by the majority. But we only found out that it was not unanimous after the event. Which is the way it should be I suppose a board should stand by the majority decision.
  3. I have actually paid fees into an honesty box at a couple of airfields.
  4. When I was considering leaving the Army a million years ago, I looked at buying into a franchise. I went to an accountant and asked advice about franchising in general. I remember him telling me about his biggest ever financial mistake. He and a friend in 1976 were offered the McDonalds Franchise for Tasmania for the princely sum of $25,000.00. He and his friend/partner had determined that it was a bad investment. The week before our discussion took place, I had considered the West Wodonga Franchise for the same store for $250,000.00. It took him some time to convince me that his advice was worth listening to.
  5. Shit I wish I had seen this 25 years ago. I know it is a joke but seriously one of my pet hates is that the military teach us to be soldiers but no-one teaches us to become civilians again. Having said that I will always be an ex serviceman I will never be a civilian. The military gave me something special and I will never regret that. Number 11 is so true. I was only 15.
  6. I have certainly read both the old one and the new one. I find it incredulous that anyone would fly an RAAUS plane without having at least read the current ops manual. The requirements of your RAAUS Certificate require that you not only read it but understand it. Sending it to CFI's is good but sending it to basic certificate holders would be better, we are the ones who need to be able to understand it as well.
  7. Don this post really bothers me. I understand that many believe the old tech manual was outdated. I have only been a member for 2 years. In those 2 years I have seen 3 things that make me worry about the future of the organisation. There have been several things that I didn't agree with but the following three things that really bother me and your post highlights them. 1. We were told the old Ops Manual was outdated and unworkable. - So it was changed for a newer but unproved version that appeared to be rushed at the last moment. 2. We were told that the old constitution was outdated and unworkable. - So it was changed by a board that really only pushed the new one and did not give a balanced opinion., And then rushed action before it was even legally implemented. 3. now we are told the the Old tech manual is dated and unworkable and as such has been replaced by an obviously untested new tech manual. Now I am not saying for a second the these three things did not need changing. What I am saying though is that the old ones have worked for many years. Just because something is old and outdated does not mean it should be change without due consultation. I am aware that as a 2 year member I would not be part of the in crowd but I have seen very little consultation on any of the above. My point is that we should not change anything because the old thing becomes dated as appear to have happened here. We should only change things because a better option has become available. IMHO we have failed in this regard in at least to of the three things above and possibly even three of them. Sorry Don but the argument that the old one was stuffed does not work for me. What would work is look this one is so much better than the old one because of XYZ. In addition you refer to the quantity of work done by many, and I can appreciate that, however quality of work is far more important to me than quantity.
  8. It is only suicide if you kill yourself. Once you make the decision to take someone else with you it becomes murder. I could say a lot more but this is one of those moments when I will bite my tongue.
  9. To me the choice of charity would be far more important than the choice of aircraft. When I buy a raffle ticket, I consider it to be a donation no matter how good the odds it is still a lottery. I only donate to charities where I am certain that that majority of funds go to those who need it and not to fund the machine behind it.
  10. So going right back to the OP and the thread title. Seems to me to be quite melodramatic. I don't see this as price gouging. I see it as responsible management by RAA. Regulations cannot be directed at individuals, it must be directed at Joe Average. Yes in some cases it may seem like overkill but it certainly does not seem like price gouging to me. To be price gouging first the RAA would need to be profiting from it, that is certainly not happening in this case. Just MHO
  11. We get some interesting jobs in road transport. I once had the contract for delivering Harley Davidsons to Morgan and Wackers in the valley. Once I delivered a replacement mast for Sydney/Hobart Yacht on Christmas Eve. This week I pulled this off the wharf for a client and today the owner and builder came to collect it from the customers premises. Had the pleasure of meeting Andre and his son and helping them load it onto the trailer for it journey to Heck Field. Sling 4. Rotax 914 turbo. Andre told me to not be a stranger next time I am at Heck and he will take me for a ride. It seemed he was surprised when a truckie walked up and said Sling eh is it a 912 or 914. Nice guy it was a pleasure to meet him and his son. 2.5 years to build and it sounded like a real family affair Andre and his 4 boys. Just brought it in from South Africa. 30 hours on the meter. Cant wait to get to Heck Field and hold him to his promise.
  12. Come on Keith there are 22 pages in this thread, as you seem to know what has been said and come to fruition, how about you quote a few of them for us. Just to save us all going through the 22 pages. Or was your post just a sh*t stir?
  13. There is always the option of putting a complaint to ASIC and one to the controlling authority for where we are registered under the old constitution as well. It fairly simple in my opinion, we should operate under the constitution we are registered under until we become registered under a different one. Then and only then should things change. They really do need to get the legalities correct first. What happens if something goes wrong and someone elected under an invalid constitution is found negligent and someone gets hurt as a result. Who wears the flack for that.
  14. You and I will have to disagree on that. The ruling that was overturned was designed to force owner operators out of the market and leave the complete market to medium to large companies. Itt was basic and simple regulationthat supported anti competitive behaviour. I will agree that those with a vested interest often try to turn the conversation to there advantage, the real problem there is that is difficult to see who really has a valis interest and who doesn't.
  15. Will do. As soon as i get to the computer.
  16. Scotts overturned on appeal Blenners 240 charges dropped to 10 1 conviction overturned on appeal. That is just the first two I looked at. My point is not that I am against the system, but that the system (COR) is not protecting those it is designed to protect, (the drivers).
  17. A lot of freight forwarders and senior management still haven't got it either. And how many prosecutions of people up the chain for fatigue related offences do you know of?
  18. Seemed like a great case of excellent training and calm confidence providing the perfect result.
  19. Cubby is an amazing place. I delivered 11 * 20,000 ltr fuel tanks out there just before the floods at Easter, I think it was 2011. Not certain of the year. I took out 220,000 litres of fuel storage capacity along with roadtrains that carried the fuel to fill them all. This was the fuel they needed to run their pumps during the suspected isolation period. They were expecting to be cutoff by the floods for up to 6 months. We got in and out on Easter Saturday, the last roadtrain got behind the rest of us due to problems on Good Friday. It took him 6 weeks to get out. The rest of us were back in Brissy for Easter Monday. It was one of those write your own cheque type of jobs. Phone Call at 1600 on the Thursday before Easter. Hey Geoff we got these tanks blah blah "Urgent" blah blah can you do it. Yeah mate but it easter it gunna cost ya. I don't give a Sh** what it gunna cost just get moving. I love those jobs. Back to the point Cubbie is a unique and amazing place.
  20. I remember that like it was yesterday.
  21. In Qld about $18,500.00 per year for a B/Double Prime Mover and 2 trailers. About $8,500.00 for a single and trailer. I have never run shuttles but I think 600,00 might be a bit high. Any driver doing more than about 250,000 a year would be pushing the limits. That is 1,000 klms per day 5 days a week 50 weeks a year. (I did once put 570,000 klms on a truck in 2 years, but I would never want to do it again.) 1,000 klms a day 5 days a week is not easy and 6 days a week is right on the limit of anyone's endurance. Don't forget the tax on fuel which is also supposed to go to road maintenance. Most of these B/Doubles are on around 1.6 to 1.8 klms per litre. So around 140,000 litres per year. In 1998 I spoke to an RTA guy on the weighbridge at Marulan who said that each night on the 8 hour night shift they had about 3,000 trucks through each direction. That was one inter capital highway so yes the road transports contribution to infrastructure is sizeable.
