  1. Further to my above post, to do my renewal I had to pull out my log book. In 2 years I have achieved so much. 325 hours of flying. 65 of which was with an instructor. 10 different aircraft although I will admit that 4 of those could at best be described as familiarisation. 1 Critical incident that could have ended far worse than it did had any one of the many things that went in my favour gone against me on the day. And 1 landing that I would much rather had not happened. It has been a journey but I have loved every minute of it.
  2. I have just gone online to do my membership renewal. A fairly simple process except it would not permit me to do 2 years only 12 months. The home page to my total surprise says that I have no Occurrence records which is not correct. Not only do I have an occurrence record (which has been chronicled here) but I still believe that it has not been followed through to a successful conclusion. So I have renewed but under protest. Without renewing there is no way for me to fly or register my aircraft but I believe that there is little value for my money. The association is not providing what I require. There have been other incidents with the same make of aircraft that was involved in mine and to date I have seen not one thing from RAA that makes me think that they take the safety of the aircraft or their members seriously. (I am not sure whether this is a lack of caring, or a lack of ability). Their responses to incidents leave me almost speechless.
  3. So it is I had forgotten that. But if I could run a water cooled engine full throttle on the ground without over heating I would be worried about it
  4. Skee. What coolant are you using. I would think that you should be able to tie her down and give it full throttle for 5minutes without it overheating.
  5. I flew in there 18 months ago, I would never go back. Rwy was terrible. Big tufts of grass that bounced the plane around quite severely. The wind sock was hanging straight down but there was a very strong cross wind. I actually wondered if kids had been throwing rocks into it. Landing fee was $25.00 In my opinion I would have been better off landing on the beach.
  6. Spent Two days on the road with her during The Hay run in Jan. She may not be perfect but she cares and that is more than I can say about those two oxygen thieves who didn't even bother to attend the repatriation of more than 30 Vietnam Vets because they were trying to con votes out of people.
  7. That was my point. It didn't seem to me as though the controller had put any pressure on, quite the opposite I felt that he was quite supportive. But then I have never flown into an area controlled by ATC. Cheers Geoff13
  8. You can have only one first language, so is yours Southern U.S. Or is it English. Sorry but you can't have both.
  9. I would have thought that any good training school should be able to sell you whatever you need. Certainly whatever they recommend at least.
  10. Lycra also works just as well as silk.
  11. The 5 RAA exams that I had to do were terribly written, had many questions with multiple correct answers and in general were a very poor test of knowledge but a resonable test of exam technique. I would never have allowed any of them to be used in any subjects that I taught when I was teaching. The complete exam structure needs serious reveiw.
  12. Parkway I did mine 18 months ago. Just studied the books recommended by the flight school and listened to what my instructors had to say up to that stage of my training. I actually struggled a bit with the weather questions but a bit of extra study in that area got me through.
  13. You have to be Joking???? Agree totally. Machines are just that. They are lumps of metal wood etc and are replaceable.
  14. Yep was happy to do that but as you say less than 2 weeks, and the first thing we see are fees going up. So I have been in RAA for just under 2 years and 2 fee increases. One by stealth. I guess at least this time they are honest about it.
  15. Two things about your story that has me ROTFLMFAO. 1. you are actually going to fly that? 2. you towed it home with a motorbike? But seriously welcome to the forum and the joy of flight. Please keep us updated on progress.
  16. Interesting that we were told that they had to drop the paper magazine or put fees up. Now the paper mag is gone and fees have gone up. Just Saying. :)
  17. Where are you flying the Foxbat shafs, and if you managed to get a wing to drop, maybe you were a bit out of balance. I have stalled the A22LS a lot of times and never dropped a wing yet.
  18. I have a problem with them calling it Ozkosh. Is that as original as we can get, sounds pathetic. As for the thread question, the rules say we do not need a radio below 5000'. Why change the rules for one event and without changing the regulations it would be impossible to enforce it.
  19. Possibly from telemetry sent to the aircraft manufacturer during the flight, which is apparently how they knew MH370 was still flying some time after disappearing.?
  20. Wow!!! What a speaker. What a powerful presentation.
  21. In fact the fuel pump in that instance had not been left on during flight, it had been turned on to switch tanks as per the poh and then turned off again. It was some short time after turning off the pump that the cabin filled with smoke. I have an electronic aux fuel pump. I turn it on during startup. I turn it off again immediatly after startup. In fact my hand goes from the starter button to the fuel pump switch as I check for oil pressure, which is first thing I do after startup. The next time I turn it on is the next time I start the motor.
  22. Yep done a few of those. Tons of fun.
  23. One would assume that 128 people are not. Hopefully they like me will accept the majority decision and see what happens.
  24. As for whether RAA is or should be promoting itself, ask yourself why you joined RAA. in my case the honest answer is that once I had decided to learn to fly my school of choice because of RAA rules said I had to join to continue learning. If I wanted to keep flying I had to join. It took no promotion on the part of RAA, it is written in the rules.
