  3. I don't know what you guys with your "loud pipes save lives" are on. I got knocked off some time back by the Coppers for having the radio up to loud on my Goldwing. I think when he pulled me up and asked why the radio was so loud possibly I shouldn't have said, "you are going to have to speak up mate I am deaf". No sense of humour some coppers.

  6. The affordable is still there. Look at the for sales, the Drifters and the like are still around and the affordable flying is still around. It just seems to me that the majority of members choose a slightly more expensive version.

  10. Best of luck with your Solo and continued learning Nightmare. It is amazing in hindsight we simply do not know as students all the questions that we need to ask.
  11. When used on a manual exchange (which was my first job) The A button was pressed when the operator told you to insert the money and press button A. (The operator got certain tones as the money was inserted) So you would insert your money and the operator could hear by tones how much went in, then once the call was connected they would tell you to press button A to feed the money into the tin. If the call couldn't be connected you would be told to press button B for a refund. The later automated system used the same procedure but done automatically. These phones could be fiddled by shorting out the A and B buttons with a bit of copper wire. The green phones were harder to beat, but it could be done by running a strip of superglue around a 20c coin. When inserted into the phone and left for 10 minutes it stuck and the phone thought the tin was full thus allowing unlimited calls. Once finished with your calls a couple of drops of fingernail polish remover dripped down the coin slot with an eyedropper was all that was needed to get a full refund of your hard earned 20c.
  12. You gotto love the skin you are in. You simply do not get a choice. As for tatts, it is a personal thing. It is not up to us to judge others. My wife having a tattoo in no way harms me so why should I feel aggrieved about it. I would have loved to have gotten a full back tattoo when I was younger but couldn't afford it. By the time I could, I had other toys to spend my money on. My wife my son and my daughter all have tatts. I do not love them any more or less for the tattoos, I simly love them for who they are. I am the only cleanskin in our family, so maybe I am the weird one. As for the young lady mentioned a few posts back what does it matter to us whether she chooses to get one or not. It is her body, her skin and she should be able to do whatever she want with it. That is true equality imho.

  14. Ahh the old Green phone. You could ring anywhere in Australia for 20 cents, and if you were really smart you could even get your 20 cents back after the call. There were for of them at the Army Apprentices School in the 70's, I am certain that Telecom never made a cent out of them.

  19. In January the D-Motor 4 cyl was going to cost $23,000 ex local agent and the 912 $25,000 Had I purchased the D-motor direct from the factory it would have been about $3,000 cheaper delivered to Brisbane using airfreight.

  22. Yes it can be busy. Crazy not so much. Although I must admit I thought it was a bit funny on Monday when the guy on late final asked the glider that had just landed in front of him if he was going to hurry up and vacate the runway so old mate could land.
  23. Thank you. You finally have it to a believable figure. So an increase of 16%. How many percent smaller than the Rotax muffler is the Savanah one. What I am getting at is if Rotax provide a muffler for optimum performance, and you are changing the Sav muffler to improve performance, you could be easily negating everything you hope to gain. Before you go much further it may pay to consider decreasing the volume some way. Possibly by shaving the bottom off a la Savanah muffler. By the way this post reminded me. I found that doughnut that I thought I had, will bring it up Saturday.

  25. At the end of the day he/she made a good result of a bad situation. It may or may not have been of his/her own poor management but they did get it on the ground with unrestrained (most jump planes in my experience do not provide restraints for passengers but I may be wrong there) passengers mainly in one piece. Yes he/she may or may not have stuffed up or been less than perfect under pressure but the result with a panicky pilot could have been far worse. What does intrigue me is that people who are willing to crucify AMSOL for the poor naming of another thread without facts are also happy to crucify this pilot without the facts
