1. Agreed Was a bit of a airport bum with my old man as a LAME, also a ppl...and the same sort of attitude with the stripes at the aero club
2. I asked their support if we can plug a mic (audio in) into the cam. Their response: While not available upon initial release, our developers will be working on an adapter to allow external microphone input with the HD HERO camera. At this point we do not yet have any specs or estimated availability date. Guess I could record it seperately, how do others do it? any ideas
3. Its do do with the stall speed, at 700 kg it won't stall within the limits for raaus
4. Glad to hear it - currently at work wishing I was somewhere else preferably with some sky between mother earth and my butt! Also studying for exam next week not aviation related unfortunately :( Happy studying!
5. "When everything seems to be going against you, remember that the airplane takes off against the wind, not with it." - Henry Ford
6. These my friend, are words of wisdom if i ever saw any...
7. Yep would try upate your drivers for the joystick, also look at a bios update for your motherboard, may be worth a shot...
8. Curious - if mounted in the cockpit is there an audio in jack like a mic jack on this camera, 3.5mm, so you can get audio from your intercom (assuming you have the right cables) ??
9. Welcome HighAce10 Plenty of info and experienced people on the forum who can answer your q's. I'm still low on the hrs but hope to build on that What aircraft are you flying? Good to see another pilot from WA
10. More WA pilots, sweet! Congrats on passing btw...
11. Oh and Langley park is fun with the Red Bull air race circuit :)
12. Not sure if this has been posted before but I find these extra FSX airfields quite handy, esp practising Navs on the sim, gives a few more options: (and its free) Alan Blencowe's Flight simulator scenery downloads - Vista Australis - Andy Weir terrain mesh format Primary scenery I use are the ORBX scenery which is payware - fantastic stuff
13. maybe because this can happen?... pucker factor 11/10
14. *groan* still gotta love these... :)
15. Anyone know what is involved in getting the Advanced Pilot endo? What are the requirements etc?
16. This thread has a few more solo stories from other members :)
17. In most cases diversions to ensure you are almost always within gliding distance of non - "tiger country" will only add a few minutes to your flight time, the difference is negligible.. for peace of mind and a more enjoyable flight, why not. Granted its not always possible but its up to the pilot to set his own minimum safety standards, limits etc, for me,if I can help it, it will always be flying over country I am likely to survive a forced landing. Its not something I'll lose sleep over planning the flight but minimise risk where I can
18. Congrats Brett, admire your drive... have been contemplating it myself for a while now, about to turn the big 30 ;) Good luck and keep us posted.
19. Hi Mike I have not flown the j400, but have flown J230 and J160 and I would say the general rule with Jabs is get that nosewheel off as soon as possible, i.e. lift it and hold it just off the ground on your takeoff (and landing) roll. Jab nosewheels don't like any weight on them and will make directional control difficult. I've been told with cessnas and the like you can hold the nosewheel on the ground on takeoff as you described, but always been told by my instructor to treat the jab nosewheel as if it were made of tissue paper - keep the weight off it for as long as possible.. Edit: oh and yes, was also taught to have trim neutral The torque effect on the 230 is also quite noticeable and needs plenty right rudder to keep her pointing straigh down the strip when you bury the throttle...have heard a few stories of pilots testing the jabs offroad capabilities when the torque has caught them by surprise by veering off the strip... :)
20. Well done Brett, so you're all done for now? Whats next other than getting hrs under the belt, maybe aim for instructor rating one day?
21. Some of our clients only want xp in their network as part of the standard operating environment so some manufacturers (toshiba I know for sure) will supply an xp rollback disk if you want so you can roll it back to xp but I'm not sure if they still do this. I would personally frogleap Vista (i've had issue after issue with vista) and go windows 7 due to be released soon if not already. I have been using the windows seven since they released the Beta and now am using the rtm (release to manufacture) version and its fantastic, looks great but uses about the same resources as xp. I could go on but in my opinion you should get rid of Vista, go xp if you can or give windows 7 a go
22. I find it useful for learning procedures, circuits, engine failures etc, Invest in some decent addon scenery and can do navs procedures, surprisingly accurate with wind input etc. Good for procedures not really good for actual flying. No substitute for the real thing though
23. Hi Mike Grew up in Harare, now in Perth. Good to see flying still going strong that side, hopefully planning a trip back that way in the next year or so may visit Komani to check it out. Welcome to the forum!
24. Wow that was an awesome trip report, lovely scenery..
25. Hi MPL, welcome, I did some flying around Nelspruit area when I lived in South Africa for about 2 years. Think its where I got the flying bug and got inspired me to get my license when I moved to Aus. Post some pics would be good to see from that part of the world
