  1. Another option would be one of those quadcopters or larger UAV's depending how much your carrying.. of course you need CASA UAV operators license etc etc etc...
  2. I liked to have my own headset unless you don't mind sharing the school headsets. A good pair of sunglasses so that you can walk in slow motion back and forth from your aircraft
  3. That is unbelievable, why do I hear Benny Hill music in my head.....
  4. It also has the word "aviation" tied to it somewhere on it's label, therefore the price will be inflated..... ;)
  5. I'm not sure if this counts as an orbit as the pilot did depart the circuit, but I was approaching the airfield and there was another RAAus aircraft in the circuit at the time. He departed downwind and orbited x miles west of the field and above circuit height to make way (voluntarily) for a RFDS PC12 on a straight in approach. He was very clear about what he was doing and was exactly where he said he was. I guess as long as you make clear radio calls it helps with the safety aspect. I'd like to know what the official procedure is though.
  6. Interim report? http://www.abc.net.au/news/2013-10-10/collision-avoidance-system-failed-to-activate-on-qantas-aircraft/5013874 and http://www.atsb.gov.au/publications/investigation_reports/2013/aair/ao-2013-161.aspx
  7. I use the old David Clark H10 13.4 (passed down from my old man) and to be honest they are great, more than adequate but I'm also a gadget nerd and I've promised myself a pair of ANR's once I've done my cross country endo. ( figured best put the money towards training at this stage.) I tried the bose a20's, fantastic but I also tried the LightSpeed Zulu 2 ANR and they are much the same in terms of performance as far as I can tell, but way more comfortable than the Bose A20's on my big noggin'. So whatever you do be sure to try before you buy before you lay out that kind of money. Also I think these ANR headsets are handy if you're flying longer legs in a noisy environment (e.g commercial ops) and need to wear them for hours at a time.
  8. Wow they really want to kill all the fun in aviation don't they...
  9. So if I'm just down at the aero club having a beer judging everyone else's landings ;) and my plane is in the hangar they could "technically" ping me?
  10. The sag of the bag is directly proportional to the motion of the ocean?
  11. Thanks Maj, Highlander would be at the top of the list if I was flush with the dinero's...
  12. For something a little different I've known some guys who have gone to Botswana, namibia and Tanzania and spent a couple of years in the bush building hours, ferrying tourists to the various bush camps and doing scenic flights (c206, c208, c210) for me that would be a awesome experience. the kind of flying that would appeal to me. Not for everyone though. E.g. http://www.wilderness-air.com/employment.html There is also a massive thread on Maun(Botswana) on the rotten plumb forum somewhere for more info.
  13. For short term forecasts -The NAIPS weather report should also report smoke (FU) in the area if I'm not mistaken
  14. Raaus posted this http://www.raa.asn.au/2013/09/3957/ I guess this shows raaus might actually allow it.....

  18. Daniel, tell them to pull your other leg, it plays jingle bells...
  19. The specs on the website claim approx 320kg payload for the skyraider? Not bad. I can take all the camping gear as it'll likely be a single seater ;)
  20. From the raaus website: "The cover has an indemnity limit of up to $10,000,000 for liability arising from third party property damage or bodily injury including a sub-limit of up to $250,000 for liability arising from injuries to passengers (including student pilots). Depending on individual circumstances, you may require more than the limits described above, so you may need to maintain additional individual insurance." http://www.raa.asn.au/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/Members-Liability-Policy.pdf
  21. So now I need to pay for liability insurance on top of everything else? This is all too hard. Maybe I'll just go fishing.... by myself.
  22. Yep you're correct 20 cc, or 1.20 cu inches. I bought it for a 1/6 (approx) scale spitfire mkVb ( 72 in wingspan) build in progress.
  23. Electric seems to be the way it's going these days. I've got a 1.20 Four stroke motor that I've converted to petrol instead of glow fuel, it's more to protect the fiberglass finish ( if I ever finish building the damn thing that is...) I like the sound of the motor but it's definitely messier than electric.
  24. I'd love to see the look on the casa inspectors face at a ramp check. "Where's your fuel plan? Reserves?" it'll be difficult to get exact battery life to plan a flight as accurately as with fuel. I guess they still have to make up the rules for this stuff.
