  1. I like the pretense that its precision bombing. Not that I'm the least bothered about carpet bombing.
  2. Correct autopilot inputs, a stabilized couple ILS approach and autoland go a long way to making it feasible. As to hand flying, then forget it. I tried hand flying an early JT8D -200 version in the cruise at FL350. It was horrible and felt so out of balance. The skipper gave it a try and agreed, promptly re-engaging he autopilot.
  3. It's subjective rather than quantative, but pages do seem to load and reload faster than I recall from the recent past.
  4. Fortunate that the wheel-chaired virgin hunter wasn't travelling on a low budget European airline; the press would have been full about the excess he was charged.
  5. Lots more than that on YouTube, not just quads, but FPV fixed wing, ballooons etc. etc. Most postings seeme to be from the USA, but that may just be down to the numbers over there. DJI as one of the major 'mainstream' quad producers has implemented restrictions that prevent or restrict flight in designated areas, mainly in North America and Europe. Unfortuntely this has apprently been over restrictive in some cases, such as preventing somebody operating in their backyard due to a limited use helipad some kms away. However, that is just one manufacturer. A licenced RPAS operator is probably going to stick to the rules and would be foolish not to do things like required risk assessments. Going by some of the comments in this thread we don't need media hysteria.
  6. When locked into a fairly juicy thermal I noticed a couple of wedge tails leave their thermal and come join me. Was quite a sight to see them soar with me for more than 5 minutes and they even adopted my direction of turn.
  7. Another reason not to read the Weakend Australian, not that I do anyway.
  8. A long, slow, job is always better than a quick hand job.....patiently waiting
  9. Sounds as though when you transmit the pax headset mike is also going live. If its a dual jack headset arrangement, leave the pax mike plug out and see if the problem still exists.
  10. Are you suggesting that old favourite; ambition exceeding ability?
  11. Whether in the air or on the road, situational awareness is essential. Whilst GPS may appear to enhance that awareness, IMHO the risk is that slavish reliance on one info source can actually reduce situational awareness. Not only that, but a back up for the unexpected failure of your primary refernce is just good airmanship.
  12. Some LSA motors are not much more
  13. It's all in the rigid rotor head.
  14. Are some confusing microbursts with tornados? Anything showing a rotational damage field will almost certainly be a tornado.
  15. Frankly I cannot accept those huge variations as being statistically correct (or to be more succinct, they look total bollocks).
  16. PPL or RAA? If the latter, then Cloud Dancer http://www.clouddancer.com.au/ CFI: Adrian 0433 697 156
  17. Looks as though it does not get a a feed from ASA ground stations at all.
  18. From first hand experience, the CASA options are very inflexible. I asked about using a UK PPL to obtain a RPL (to avoid having to go through the AVMED medical debacle . The only option offered was PPL to PPL, then once PPL issued downgrade it to a RPL.
  19. Sorry I'll do it again. Yes, it is a total contradiction of common thinking about CRM. The human has a brain for a reason.
  20. Self serving and without mandate. Few seem to have sussed out that we are being totally hood winked by a very few privileged arseholes.
  21. The Air France over the South Atlantic falls into the same description. The move to 'blind obedience' in airline training goes back many years and certainly existed when I spent time with BA at Southall back in the late seventies. 'Don't think, just do' was the tenet then and that mentality probably still pervades the industry.
  22. People need to be careful here or they will get branded with another stupid acquired from the septics term, the "sovereign person". Google it, it seems anyone that thinks that a government and its retarded employees are wrong makes you a potential 'sovereign person'. Next step is presumably 'terrorist suspect'.
