  1. From the latest version of ICAO's Annex 5 is the following: Table 4-1. Termination dates for non-SI alternative units a) No termination date has yet been established for use of nautical mile and knot. b) No termination date has yet been established for use of the foot.
  2. In addition to light aircraft use, I have used the iPad Mini/Ozrunways on a number of RPT flights, internal GPS has been spot on (cell data turned off prior to departure) and unaffected by the aluminium/composite tubes we fly around in.
  3. Agressive is probably still a bit strong.......
  4. "departing a Class C or D aerodrome with a surveillance service (for example, radar or ADS-B). So to me that reads that some class D aerodromes do have radar?" Note the "or ADS-B" in that line above. In Class D the surveillance service might be ADS and not radar.
  5. ATC primary radar coverage is very limited, generally gated at about 45-50 nm range. Secondary radar provides up to 200nm, height and terrain dependent, but is also pretty sparse outside of the East Coast 'J'. For example, leaving Perth coverage there is no radar until within range of Adelaide, all ADS between two. To prevent any uninvited guests, the military rely heavily on 'over the horizon' HF detection methods.
  6. With 79,000 Ruskis leaving the place it should be a much better place for a holiday, as long as you are carry on only.
  7. Should be fun to see how many holes there really are are in CASA's knickers legislation. TIFs????
  8. All for innovation, but I didn't get halfway through that Tradky video. Yuck.
  9. The Australian government (including CASA) put out so much crap its hard to find the info in a quick and simple Google search, but it seems to be any commercial turbine (poss over 5700kgs) that are required to carry TCAS.
  10. Human factors, mind set, para-military operations....
  11. In that case Willis need to supply a document that states 20 and not 10 million. The letter you attach is fairly unambiguous.
  12. The only issue I found with the Y was (with short legs and the seat forward) in the flare, where I found getting that last bit of aft elevator awkward.
  13. Is there an Airservices take on top of that rate?
  14. More and more exotic drones are appearing in adverts etc. Anyone know how licencing/approvals work for autonomous or beyond visual range operations?
  15. I know Lakenheath and Mildenhall very well and have flown around there many times, hence my query about the 'combined'. They also had a MoD Police presence, but it was a mere token.
  16. "Lakenheath is a combined RAF / USAF base" All US airfields in the UK are titled 'RAF'. I'm unaware of the RAF having any presence at Lakenheath, unless it's something quite recent.
  17. Which is why it got stuck when the depth of the ruts equaled the height of the suspension. Sucked on rather than off, if you get my drift.
  18. I was told another issue with the Humvee was that it's flat bottom caused it to stick fast to the glacial clays found across Europe.
  19. The variation in the price of fuel enroute would probably have more significance.
  20. As an individual your rights may vary. For example, a Queensland state government site states the following (my underlining): --------------------- "When can I record a telephone conversation? Bugging or intercepting a telephone conversation is illegal. It is not illegal to simply record a telephone conversation if you are a party to the conversation as long as you do not attach anything to or in the phone or its connections. There is no problem with recording a message on an answering machine, because it is assumed that the person leaving the message realises it is being recorded. Appropriately obtained recordings can be accepted by a court as evidence." ------------------------- So it would be appropriate to check the actual situation in your state as an individual who is party to the conversation. Note that it may be illegal to pass on the contents of a recorded conversation, much the same as listening to various radio communications - listen is OK, but do not publish.
  21. Many moons ago, when Stansted (London) airport was much quieter than now, I was hand-balled a call by the switchboard operator. A person was looking to move into the area and wandered which were likeliest to be the noisiest area. I gave him a run down based on my having lived in the area for a number of years. He thanked me profusely, but before he hung up I left him with a parting note. If you move near an airport and then ring me up with a noise complaint, then I'm going to tell you to eff off. "Fair enough", he said with a chuckle.
