    Acrolite 1B

Is this still up for sale?
  2. Could be many things. We had a lead issue once that caused a similar issue. But I would list that as a Major Defect and ground the aircraft, so yes there is a risk of something failing in flight
  3. You find it is the same requirement with the GFA, HGFA, and warbirds. Insurance is a big part of it. To convert, there is a 5 hour requirement. Before we argue if this is required or not, I have done a few with GA pilots converting, biggest issue is getting use to a lighter aircraft.
  4. At our club, we have 2 x G3 engines coming up for 1000 TBO next year, both sitting around 900 hours. 1 has had nothing done to it besides normal servicing. The other one had an issue but was highly likely caused by someone not running the engine correctly. After some maintenance by our expert Lame, back online and will see out the 1000 hrs.
  5. Think you will find the CASA report was highly inaccurate. If you applied the same logic across the entire aircraft fleet, alot of other manufactures engines should have been affected too. I said, it it how they are maintained and run, nothing said about LAME's. There is different quality in LAME's as there is in owner maintainers. Yes I know of some specifics but a public forum is not the place for them.
  6. I recon you will find how they are maintained and looked after, plays a big part. Same with any engine, not just jabiru.
  7. Unless you know how it was maintained and fuel used, hard to know. We maintain ours to the letter, use avgas only, always get 1000 hrs on the TBO. That is across 3 x J170.
  8. I am meeting a candidate this weekend, coming to our airfield to talk to people, and hopefully another one the following weekend at a fly-in. The cost question I will be putting to them, but also what their vision is to grow raaus and how they are going to do it.
  9. THankyou!!
  10. Hi All, Wondering if anyone has been involved in setting up a ULP bower at an airfield. Besides the equipment, was there any regulation issues or issues with getting a bulk supplier to deliver fuel? Where I am, already have avgas, just looking into options as many flyers bring in fuel for the rotax powered aircraft. Also heard the fuel excise may be able to be claimed back. ATO has an article on it, likely need to contact them though. Thanks All
  11. Yes agree and well pointed out, congrats for making a good decision.
  12. I have RWY as a backup on my android phone from my iPad mini. If one has issues, I have my backup at hand.
  13. Took me a bit to find, but eventually found the link. Below.AvPlan Live You need to have registered first.
  14. Why do you need to register? OzRunways you don't have to.
  15. Lets be positive and make it a great success. My biggest issue is getting a leave pass from the wife!!!
  16. My go at answering these!!1. I need the Raspberri Pi 3 module - which includes the wifi module. Correct (Someone on facebook was selling completed ones for around $240 last year, where I got mine) 2. I need a 1090 Mhz receiver and antenna suitable for aircraft (not one of the ground based monsters) Correct 3. I need a stable 5V (USB) power supply Correct , you can use a powerpack, in my aircraft I use the 12v power supply from the aux power (Cigarette lighter power) 4. I don't need a GPS module as the iPad GPS knows my position. Correct, assuming you have the 3G version, just a wifi version does not have the GPS chip. 5. I need to install some software on the raspberry pi. (not sure what talks best with ozrunways??) Correct, quire a few sites out there detailing how to do this. Or you buy one like I did 6.There is no point having the the dual band as Air Services don't intend to put in transmitters for the ground the based 978Mhz Correct 7. I will not get ADS-B weather as Air Services don't intend to put in transmitters for weather. Correct 8 I cannot provide an ADS-B out to other aircraft location without a "real" transponder-squitter ($$+) [but is not required for VFR /class G/ RAA anyway] Correct, who knows what will come in future with low cost ADSB out solutions 9. Oz runways will show Ozrunways traffic via the 3g iPad data as usual. Correct and ADSB, I pick up the Jets going overhead, interesting to see how fast they move!! Also picked up a few helicopters nearby too. 10. ADS-B traffic will appear in ozrunways (similar to native ozrunwas traffic?) via Wifi from the Raspberry Pi. Correct 11. ADS-B traffic is (IFR, some GA VFR and new aircraft after 2014) Anyone that has ADSB out fitted and it is turned on. Seen a RAAus aircraft with it too!! And ADSB is mot mandated for RAAus VFR, so may only have mode S 12. non ADS-B Avplan traffic will not be visible Correct 13. non ADS-B map and compass traffic will not be viable. Correct 14. non ADS-B glider traffic will not be visible (Some vintage also) Correct , alot of gliders have flarms. Depending how old their flarm is, they may see you if you have Mode C / S or ADSB. If you have more questions, keep asking, and start googling. If you are interested in who was building and selling them, let me know and I will see if I can dig it up.
  17. Does avplan provide website like ozrunways to view all traffic for free? As in tx.ozrunways.com
  18. I heard differently, but there is more to it I think than we will ever know or will be told. Would be nice if it was just sorted, combined all sources.
  19. It would be great to see adsb through the EFB. (I have the adsb rasberry pi with ozrunways and works well). And I have heard it was the otherway, avplan not wanting to share with ozrunways!!!. Time will tell but hopefully sorted out one day.
  20. I have a zodiac zenoth 601 and love it. 650 though is the current one. Main thing is, what do you want to do in your aircraft? slow and short trips, longer trips where you want to go faster? Once you have your requirements, it should help you choose one.
  21. I learnt at Adelaide Soaring Club, great instructors and club atmosphere. Cost me around $3000 to get to certificate stage, and then around another $2000 for my Navs. Everyone is different. Lots of choice out there, yes take a TIF, maybe at a few places see what works for you. GA will cost at least double, maybe more depending how far you go.
  22. J200 or 230 or j170 or many other aircraft, yes all good. With nav, I can fly most places. Just not into Adelaide airport or parafield. Rest I can outside controlled airspace. Issue you will have on KI is learning to fly. Your only option is to come to mainland. Depending how much $$ you have!! Shop around, worth going to a few places see what works for you. Main ones are at aldinga, goolwa, Murray bridge and gawler which I am part of. If you want to come out to gawler, let me know, I can show you around if I can be there at time. Depends on work and family (gawler is run my volunteer instructors as part of club)
  23. There is restriction on either General Aviation (GA) or recreational aviation for distance until you have your navigation endorsement. Main difference is GA has ability to fly into controlled airspace, take more than 2 pax, fly heavier aircraft and aerobatics. I am a recreational pilot and have no issues going between KI and Gawler, just go to go via mt barker (Usually cheaper to learn than GA too)
  24. My understanding too was it was all donations and not from the membership or other fees. I am a recipient of the scholarship and very grateful. Thanks to all who donated. My last membership renewal I made sure I put back in what I could. Hopefully if others can afford to, it can go to worthy recipients.
  25. Where do you live and what do you want to do? If in Adelaide and out north, and you just want to fly for fun, look at the Adelaide Soaring Club at Gawler, way cheaper than parafield and run by a club. If you want to fly bigger aircraft and say 4 people at a time, you should look GA. But you can always start out recreational aviation and transfer over later.
