  1. 3 hours, such a difference!!, glad you could make it Matt and maybe we will see you somewhere else around the traps soon.
  2. I would not even attempt to take off on a busy road like that!!
  3. As far as I know spinning is still allowed in gliders. I did spins and unusual attitudes about 18months ago
  4. GFA can provide this. I have been up twice in a glider to do the spins and unusual attitudes training, well worth it as I can not do it in raaus. Contact your local gliding club to see if they can do it. I did mine at the Adelaide Soaring Club.
  5. Crazy!!, will make sure I bring enough fuel for return trip!! Otherwise for others, murray bridge airfield is not too far away and they have avgas.
  6. You can see damage on video here. Drone strikes plane at Parafield Airport
  7. Thanks for the insight.
  8. Interested to know more about this. I have a 19 registered aircraft. What does Darren look at or require?
  9. Hi, believe you were after an altimeter? I have an one removed from my A/C in April. I replied to your post with a pic, let me know if you are interested. Also have an old ASI in MPH.

  11. Wish we could do that in Adelaide!!!! Would love to know if there is any private strips along the Murray we could use for this sort of thing. Was there a landing strip at Pine Creek?
  12. Can't blame RAAus for making this decision. We all know it is the policy makers who have no idea.
  13. Hopefully will be resolved soon for the better. Last time I spoke on area freq for a private airfield, was told I was on wrong freq.
  14. From the ops manual the pilot ensures their competency to operate the aeroplane type (refer to RAAP 1 – 2016 Type Transition Guidance) and holds all required Endorsements for the aeroplane and the intended flight (refer to Section 2.01 – Requirements). Link to the document is here: https://members.raa.asn.au/storage/raap-1.pdf Extract Pilots should make use of all available resources to ensure they are well prepared before flying an unfamiliar aircraft as pilot in command. Recommended actions include: • Read and understand the Pilots Operating Handbook for the aircraft; • Seek advice and assistance from experienced instructors or other pilots experienced with the type; • Ensure you understand how the aircraft differs from aircraft you have flown before; • Ensure you know how to use all the knobs, buttons, levers, dials, etc. before take off; • If necessary, have someone experienced with the type fly with you before you fly the aircraft as PIC. I have flown 3 different types of aircraft, each new one I had a CFI train and then sign me off in my log book.
  15. Sad news, RIP No Cookies | The Advertiser
  16. Great to see
  17. Hi Zodiac, I have to ask, did you get the card in the end?
  18. We still have all them fly in and out, mostly the P8 and PC3 plus c17. But they let us have the airspace which is great. I think only 3 times in the past 10 years I hear have they activated from sfc up. We are respectful not to breach airspace, if you have a look at Gawler, you can see how tight we have it, especially on RWY 13 / 31
  19. I fly from Gawler inside Edinburgh airspace. They have 3 restricted zones above us, but usually only activate 1 so we get 4500 agl, and only once a week they activate down to 2500. Airfield has a good relationship with the RAAF and gliding operations (Usually get a release to 8500ft). As for cost of hanger, ranges depending on owner but I hear somewhere around $100 to $150 mth but there is airfield rules around what can be kept onsite.
  20. Understand how it would nark you. I use to have a windows phone many years ago, gave it up due to not being able to get the apps I wanted and functionality. But I am happy with my Nexus 5x. Is the one below the one you are referring to? Sentient Software | AirNAV VFR best moving map and flight planner in Australia If so, looking at the ipad app and the text quoted on the website, not sure if they have been kept up to day. Has a 30 day trial so no harm to give it a go. But you will find most use either 1 of the 2 popular EFB's. I personally use OzRunways and find it really good on the iPad.
  21. I use an iPad, but have an android phone for backup, and use windows pc at home. So not locked in and keep myself device agnostic as much as possible. Just limiting yourself to windows devices, you will be waiting a long time and being locked to a certain platform. But if you need one now, look at all the options and make an appropriate call. I suggested android as it is cheaper than an ipad.
  22. Think you will be out of luck there!!. Not many people would want that and a surface pro is too big for the cockpit. (Plus much more expensive) You can get an andriod tablet with 4G for not too much, may be worth the investment otherwise you will be waiting for many many years. There is emulators by the way to run andriod apps on windows 10, but you may luck out with functionality (ie GPD)
  23. Got to ask, why a windows version? Take it you have a surface? Or is it just for flight planning on the ground?
