  1. Totally Agree. Must be 5 to 8 high schools within 10km from the Airfield I fly out of. Great opportunity.
  2. So lots of good conversation going on here. Some great suggestions too. The challenge, what can we all do to promote RA Aus? Bring the young people in, keep it simple and keep costs down. RA Aus has some great potential.

    J160 experience?

I have only ever flown the J170 so not sure about the floating compared to others. But yes it can float a little if you are coming in too fast.

    J160 experience?

From the Jabiru websire Jabiru J170-D The J170 was developed with the flying schools in hotter climates in mind. It is the J160 with the longer wings of the J230 and a bigger elevator. The longer wings allow it to climb faster in hot conditions. The longer wings also provide more float on landing which is helpful when learning to land. The dual controls and adjustable rudder pedals are continued in this model. The 100 knot TAS cruise speed is still easily achievable at 2850 rpm. Pretty sure the hotter conditions is the UK is not going to be an issue!!

    J160 experience?

I was there in summer once, it 25 Deg and it was a heat wave, almost had to take the jumper off!! I fly the J170, very similar to the J160. Handles very well and I have never had any issues.
  6. Very sorry and sad to hear this flyerme. Condolences to you and Doug's family.
  7. Just joined. Matt Hall would be a great speaker. Busy man though
  8. Fantastic, would be great to see it in more schools
  9. Agree with you there. I only came across RAA by luck when I was looking to do a TIF and a few flying lessons out of parafield. When I found RAA, I got my pilots certificate within the same cost and very much enjoying it. I only wish I knew about RAA 10 years ago. I am following your events page now too (is that the SA one?) So how can we get RAA to sell itself more to the young people and retain them? I think part of the answer is through clubs for retaining people. High Schools and social media is another way to get the message out.
  10. Hi Tim Just saw this on the RA Aus Website Great news for any females who are interested in learning to fly but don't know where to start: During the entire month of March, any NEW female candidates who join RAAus as a flying member will receive flying lessons with their school to the value of their annual membership fee! What's also exciting is that many of our schools are also jumping on board during the Women of Aviation Worldwide Week (7 - 13 March 2016) and will be planning events (and have their own special offers) to encourage more women to participate in our industry! We will advertise these soon, but in the meantime think free or heavily discounted Trial Introductory flights, competitions, speakers from all corners of the aviation industry and anything else our wonderful CFIs can whip up before March! Now is the time to encourage the women in our community to get involved in aviation, spread the word, visit an event and support your local school. For more information about these events, stay tuned or visit the ‪#‎WOAW16‬ website ‪#‎RAAus‬ ‪#‎Learntofly‬ ‪#‎Womeninaviation‬ ‪#‎Flyitforward‬ I take it you have seen this? Cheers
  11. Fantastic!! Please share the details, and what help you need. I am sure some people on this forum can help, including me!!
  12. Totally agree, as long as the cost can be kept down to make it as affordable as possible. Club training schools like where I learnt was a great way and also gives you an opportunity to get in contact and be involved beyond gaining your Pilots Certificate.
  13. Totally agree, while I am not in my 40's yet and still have young kids, I was able to afford it and my kids love coming out when I am doing my practice circuits. One issue is most airfields that fly RA Aus are not that close to the main cities. I am lucky in Adelaide to have Gawler only 30mins from my place. Other cities are not so lucky. It would be good for RA Aus to have a program that schools can access to offer an aviation subject. Food for thought.
  14. And that is why we can not be left behind, getting into schools and the young generation early is critical.
  15. Electric planes will go a long way, give it 5 to 10 years when they have perfected the technology.
  16. I never knew about recreation aviation til around a year ago. Once I learnt about it and how much cheaper than GA, I signed up right away. I wish I knew this 15 years ago!! It was only when I went looking I found out about it. While you are correct, it also comes down to promoting Recreation Aviation to the young and next generation. Great opportunity to get into schools to promote this. I believe there is a few schools around offering an aviation subject too.
  17. Hence the need to get more young people involved.
  18. Here we go again!!!. I live in Mawson lakes, and I do not notice the planes anymore. About 8 years ago it was worse with night flight training but Parafield did lots to reroute the traffic and restrict the times to the benefit of all. But most of all, the airport was there first and I knew this when I moved in, so I got over it!! In the article, it has quoted suggestions about moving it out north, the only big issue with that is that, it is all military airspace out north!!! and once it is gone, that is it!! We loose out our only training hub for flight training. So in summary, if you bought near the airport, it was there first!!!
  19. Which movie? how long is it going to take you to rebuild?
  20. There is an aero club at Parafield which hires planes out to its members. Also, if you need to get your hours up in a cheaper aircraft and happy to fly RA Aus, Gawler Airfield is not too far away too.
  21. Thanks for confirming. I will also follow up at the club to see if we can put a poster up too.
  22. Excellent, please do. If you need help organising, let me know. Do Gliders count too? as I am sure there will be a number of glider pilots up that day too!!
  23. Great to hear!! Looking forward to the day. Are you going to organise to meet in a certain area and have some sort of mini flyin?
  24. Signed up, being a Saturday, should be a few training pilots at Gawler too.
