  1. A detailed tech document has to be able to be altered and updated to suit changing needs, not doing so is what left us with old outdated tech manual for years Im pretty sure L2 and others got to review final drafts, no idea who though of if the direction changed. The board and others had their input into key components inc MARAP. Ive no idea what changes were proposed, but if casa wouldnt swallow it then it couldnt happen, no matter how sensible or otherwise.
  2. Where did i indicate i knew much about it? Just know a bit about the process. Seeing as you lnow all about it, does the new version ( or the old one you seem to prefer) fit with 149
  3. never said everyone saw it Keith, but im sure everyone interested knew it was coming. Ill bet if you asked or contributed you could have been involved You cannot manage a regulatory process by concensus especially where the regulator is dictating the terms. There was always going to be unpopular changes partly because old manual was so poor. Sections or chnges were no doubt discussed with Casa individually, negotating the least impact possible hopefully. THEN once complete whole document sent for ratification or approval. Pretty normal for complicated documents Whats the point of lengthy member discussion if casa is telling them how its going to be. Why would they ask someone like your opinion? Youre convincd theres some consiracy going on and unlikly to be helpful or positive towarda any changes
  4. It was shown to members and was back and forth to casa over a long time, years? If it were reliant on being approved by all members we would be running on the old version for decades to come

    Flywheel bolts

If you re running a non jabiru supplied propeller you have to change them much more frequently than that
  6. Any new entitry or product, hoping to suceed, needs to prove itself and deserves latitude to do so. However very few long term sucesses are made purely by undermining existing structures. The point being in this case that ELAAA? Should concentrate on getting going and performing well NOT by running down RAA. Be careful as you are building a new glass house and there will be issues for sure. Members who jump accross, are going to be just as quick to leave. There has been good apparant bridge building between RAA, SAAA and Others which has to be good for recreational aviation. A new one determined to act antagonistically towards others is unlikely to help in the pushback on regulators. Divisions make it so much easier for casa to stand back and do nothing tangible and claim they consulted everyone
  7. If it has no members yet, just an executive, then everyone was consulted on new manuals. Theres 100% happines even from the likes of KP? Other point re competing entities, RAA does have competition, PPL, key difference is self maint and lower medical spec. But has addd costs and limitations. Plenty live without that. Casa will go to lengths to prop up RPL concept despite it largely being a waste of time.
  8. Casa will love this, just three small groups to undermine rather than one big one.
  9. Nice work I have read of a similar outcome before in a motor glider but never saw proper numbers. In cold climates a "protected inlet" or using under cowl air is ok even in certified setups. Someone else might know more. The air shouldnt be that hot and in the Jab you still have filtered and carb heat if you need it. Engine usage will also increase airflow through cowl helping cooling if you block off the naca inlet altogether. Nice part is that is simple to try and can be undone easy too. I have a perfect silicon elbow but its not doing much on the bench
  10. Will be interesting to see how they get on negotiating different rules from CASA than those dictated to RAA. Who is going to fund it?
  11. Caravan Park on the airfield has tent sites but not heaps Also theres new owners so might pay to ring them directly
  12. positions flight paths over low density population to SW for noise.......
  13. Off topic but I see EIS into Western Sydney recommends head to head operations at night, ie landing one direction taking off the other - talk about compromising wind conditions let alone ATC problems. How would you schedule that?
  14. Or you can run a little rich and use leaning valve, heard some good sucess stories inc easier starting for some reason
  15. You can get them very even, just take lots of trial and error with inside top of duct deflectors Jab USA have a good how to guide and with patience it does work but very small changes have big effects. I used some adhesive door seals (hollow type foam setup) to seal where ducts meet top cowl and oil cooler. sure made a difference I found that air loss around oil cooler was a significant problem, extended front flap and blocked off sides so air at least did something, next is to start blocking it off a little.
  16. Hopefully the knockers will go silently away and let the majority vote rule, Apparantly very few are upset enough (with the issues KP keeps on about) to even vote. Wheres the conspiracy theories about the vote and how it was run?
  17. they are here, just get sick of the constant complaining Id guess When one raises their head they get pasted by angry people.......some who arent even members If you want to be heard contact your board member or the office.
  18. So whats stopping you Keith?
  19. There is something happening in Jab intake box/naca duct for sure. Others have over time removed air intake hose and used under cowl air and seen dramatic changes in EGT and distribution, I have seen another with taped off NACA and then a round hole who swears it made a difference (similar to what Jaba who says) I have seen myself similar EGT spread problems on two totally different engines in the same airframe. Somehow nearly gone when CAE engine fitted........ Theres some intake effect there but seems it can be fought somehow
  20. Smart avionics in UK sell a prop balancer unit which would do what you want. Can be used to watch general vibrations too. Output on android via bluetooth Vibration analysis is common on big plant and machinery with service and replacement done based on the results. Sometimes a spot check other times constant monitoring The gear is out there and not crazy expensive. Making sense of output isnt simple. Baseline readings a are key to getting it to work
  21. No Frank, my outlook is not rosy at all. I think we just lay the blame differently. Many seem to think we have some kind of control over this when in fact whatever CASA/SASAO says is what is happening, RAA tech try to find a way around or compromise to whatever BS they come up with. Nowhere does it say SASAO has to have same rules as GA - they can revert to whatever rules they think are needed. Id say they would want full LAME maint and no mods at all. LSA only. RAA has far less regulation than GA and to say otherwise is silly. Most of our aircraft wouldnt be flying were this not the case. Its a matter of resisting the push to add regs or remove exemptions. The discussions with SASAO have been ongoing for ages, it wasnt drafted and then sent for approval.
  22. If it was sent to everyone for their input it wouldnt be released for years A range of members asked to review id guess. Much of the changes were specified by SSAO, not the other way aroind i believe. Not sure how some think a new organisation would be subject to different rules......the same people would be overseeing it too. CASA.
  23. No one much in Narromine knows whats going on?
  24. RAA is the parrallel path to GA, a selcted range of members did see tech manaul for comment early on, assume they made corrections or adjustments. Probably still can if the problem is valid Not much point releasing a document SSAO wont approve of.
  25. I too have too cool cht one side of a 3300, rhs too Started looking at installing a fence at the inlet to restrict air to RHS, if suction is whats driving it all then this should decrease LHS or at least bring RHS up to similar levels. Havent gone far enough yet but in my mind even is better than too low temps Oil cooler inlet sure stuffs up cowl airflow, partially blocking during winter effects cht
