    I saw this story too. Once again, I thought that if you are looking for a paddock to put down in with unfavourable conditions, the Jabiru would certainly be the plane to be in. Once again...pilot walks free.

Thankfully everyone ok. The plane is a 182 G. VH DGF. Sadly My father used to own that plane and I remember when it was resprayed into that colour scheme. It appears it was doing parachute flights. We usd to use her for aerial seeding. Doesnt look like like it will be doing much anymore.

    Damn that looks like G747 Allan Wardills Raftor. I did a TIF in that one. It was lovely to fly and he was very accomodating. Sad to see it like that, but glad he is ok.

    Hmm I agree. Piper cub comes to mind. ?65 hp seems about right. Don’t see any lack of power there. Now let’s drop the weight. Kasper I agree completely

    Fred Byron, who built my flea, built a number of those here in Australia.

    The work they do is truly impressive. I have seen there wares on display at Omaka a number of times and they are amazing. All I can say is that if it is internal fraud then that is a shame. This sort of thing can bring an entire operation down and one such as this, is too important.

    Those aircraft are the seized ones when Steve Hart went to jail. I note the sea fury and his Cap are still out off limits. I have always liked VH-YAY ever since I saw Cameron Ralph Smith fly it at Caboolture a long time ago. It has the 400hp motor in it. I made an RC Model of it and it flew very well. Like you litespeed, even at bargain basement prices, I still couldn't afford to get one. Also all of those planes have not been touched in a long time, so who knows what lurks beneath.

    Thanks Kasper, I thought you would drop in soon. This was the plane not long before the first flight. He did a spectacular job on it.

    Quite Correct Nev. Having personally flown flown one, This pilot knew what he was doing as far as design went, but as you put it, the engine seemed to be the problem. Can happen to any type. I am not sure what the current status is in the UK, but here in Oz, I have one flying and I know of a few others.

    Just an update on this particular one. I have followed the build on this particular aircraft. It was an HM14-360. It was fitted with a BMW motor and this was about its second flight. The pilot was critical but stable and is recovering well. That is some good news.

    This flea is the HM290FB that Kasper speaks of. It is fitted with a Rotax 503 and a 62 inch prop. Plenty of power and Kasper and I have both been on the heavy side when flying it. No CofG troubles or shortage of power getting us in the air. It is one of two that Fred Byron built. The other was an HM14 which Fred reconditioned and Kasper had the honour of testing them both. Crosswind landings are as Kasper described, a nonevent. This flea also has the howell spoilers and Cossandey Flap. Neither of which I use regularly. It cruises at about 65kt indicated and I am more than happy to answer as many questions as can be thrown my way. By the way, nice Minimax. I have always like them.

    I am the current owner of the HM290FB of which Kasper speaks. It flies very well. The plans for this aircraft are freely available on in the internet at Pouguide.ar. It flies very well and there is video footage of me doing it at youtube. search Flying Flea at Watts Bridge. Where about are you Scott? If you want any photos of a completed one, just contact me.
