I realise we are never going to get an ATSB style of report, but I find it very hard to believe that RAAus does not have sufficent clout to be able to begin a process with the relevant authorities that would enable it to at least release "advice to members" after an accident. Where there is a will there is normally a way! I am sure there are several hundred trike jockeys at least who would happily pay at bit extra in fees so a staff member could follow this sort of thing up.

Turbo, I have read most of the forum and realise that the matter of investigations or lack thereof has been covered many times. What I cannot understand is why RAAus cannot implement some sort of reporting system for the benefit of its members. Does the law prevent it from doing so? Is it because it might open itself up to litigation? It cant be because it doesnt have the funds! It seems in almost every incident someone with type knowledge attends the scene, in this case the CFI from the local airfield. I bet he would have a pretty fair idea of what happened when he saw the aircraft? But in most cases we hear nothing! Even if there were only indirect recomendations made . "Be aware of the nescessity of being able to glide to safety" "Remember to retension prop bolts every 20 hours" etc etc surely anything is better than nothing? You seem to have been around for awhile! Is there anyway to get the system changed?

And pigs might fly! I will believe that when I see it. There have already been several incidents and fatalities this year and not a whisper! Surely RAAus via its Board feels obligated to do something about this?

But if the prop let go in a big way and broke the rear wires or went through the wing there wouldnt have been anything the poor guy could do.

Very sad. Please let there be some sort of worthwhile investigation, was it a structural failure? or was it a case of not being able to glide to safety?

Why would you be flying at 8pm? Because at the moment there is still plenty of light to operate safely until at least 8.45pm in Vic and SA at least

Incredibly sad, especially for loved ones left behind. But why, why, why? It is happening with monotonous regularity! Maybe it is a nescessity that RAA change its accident reporting procedures forthwith , not only so we can learn of things that go wrong, but to make us all think of the consequences of operating outside proper procedures. I am NOT saying these two young guys were doing anything wrong.

Do you mean Huntfield? That is north south though! It is a private strip I think, bit rough, I have only done a couple of touch and goes on it! You can Google it up on "ourairports"

They are on the ball as far as pilot certificates go! Weight Shift endorsement paperwork posted Monday, new plastic card in the mail today! Transfer papers for my new secondhand trike posted four weeks ago, still nothing. At least it is still registered, albeit in the previous owners name. Sorry for you guys who can do nothing except pull your hair out :-(

Life is full of chances! The likelyhood of falling out of the sky and injuring someone flying over open land is so close to zilch I would be willing to take the risk!

What a great forum. I am just starting my nav training having just got 4 solo hours up in a taildragger Sport Cub built by Cubcrafters. I believe there are only about 2 or 3 in Oz at the present. Adelaide Biplanes at Aldinga SA have 2 of these and 3 Sport Stars in their training fleet. Its a great training facility with a really friendly and homely atmosphere!!! www.adelaidebiplanes.com.au :thumb_up: PS Even an old bugger like me [55] can learn!!!!!!!
