  1. Thanks for the reply. I have given this a miss. I read the logs and the engine from 120hrs has been in and out and repaired non stop. It's not something I want, thus I have gone down the Rotax route. I'm now sorting an aircraft with the above. I think in the long run when I consider reliability and resale it's a no brainer. My idea was to buy the 230 sell what I don't need for 2 to 10 k and spend 60k. Thanks Lyndon
  2. 2009 700hrs in good condition, well maintained. Still flying, all original, just had a top end service by a reputable aircraft mechanic. Engine complete, prop and the complete panel. ( No glass but does have a Garman GPS ). Thoughts on what it's worth to resell. I'm doing my sums on this plane to buy. The above are not needed if I buy it. Thanks in advance. Lyndon
  3. Thanks for the input. White on the horizontal and I can paint the vertical. Im also happy to paint any non structural parts. One step closer to building a plane. Thanks Lyndon

    Jabaru 230 advice

I believe that is sold ?
  5. As my previous post I'm considering a Jabiru 230. Thoughts please. The aim is to own for 2 to 3 years and travel in it. Eg about 2 to 300 hrs, then sell it. 1. Buy new. 2. Build my own at 760kg with VH and save 20 to 30k ( my preferred option ). 3. buy used. Concerns are 1 . reliability, eg I like new 2. Resale factory vs home built. 3. Home build gets me 760kg which I like. Advice would be much appreciated. Lyndon
  6. Silver or a light grey would be considered a too dark colour in take it . Lyndon
  7. I'm considering buying a kit and would like to paint it. Apparently being fibreglass this is questionable in a dark colour. Jabaru themselves won't approve it but say many do. Does anyone have any thoughts or real world experience in this. As you can probably tell I like the darker colours which get hotter. Thanks Lyndon
  8. Looking to buy a J230 project. Damaged. High hrs. Kit half built. An aircraft with issues. Please contact Lyndon 0451860386 [email protected]
  9. At those hours I would bet the cam is gone. If you do buy it take off a barrel and have a look. 1200 for a cam plus lifters. Case needs to be split. Flat tappet valve trains don't last long. New rings for sure 600 bucks. . Barrels should be fine and the heads and valves should be fine as would be the bottom end. Gearbox service is easy as. You need some special tools which you can buy from bert flood. Remember don't hone those cylinders. Crc and and a clean rag is all they need. Also don't touch the valves. They are non serviable. Valve stem seals. New colets. Check your heads for hardness. Media blast them and if you want a very light hand lap on the seats. Lyndon
  10. I have placed a simple two way switch on the panel. One way for the panel switch and the other for the ray Allen. Problem fixed. Next question. Is the book correct that the roof can't be done until the wings are on. I want to get as much done at home before the hanger trip and assemble the wings and tail. Thanks Lyndon
  11. I'm thinking a simple toggle switch to interrupt the two wires to the servo. So its either on the dash or the stick. Thus no feed back Lyndon
  12. Thanks. Makes sense. Lyndon
  13. Yes in the USA. Both are in the neutral position unless held. I can feed the std switch while using my ray Allen as its terminals are not common when not in use. But the other way around. I just just don't know the ray Allen unit good enough. I will call them tonight. Thanks Lyndon
  14. I can't remember how much. I rang them direct and they sent it out. Very nice people to deal with. Lyndon
  15. Has anyone done the trim with the ray Allen stick. My thoughts were to have the std dash one as well as one on my stick as I have bought the ray Allen set up. My issue is will this back feed my stick when I use the dash toggle. Is this an issue. Can I over come it or just use my stick and not wire the dash toggle. Thoughts. Thanks Lyndon
  16. Now onto wiring in the trim on the stick as a piggy back. Now I understand it I'm sure it will go well. Lyndon
  17. Thanks. Makes sense. Lyndon
  18. I need some info on the rocker switch to wire up the electric trim. On the switch I have 6 pins. The two center are common and switch to the outer up or lower. I have two white wires running to my trim motor. How do I wire this ???? Ray Allen suggest I power it up with the avionics to avoid start up spikes. Any help please. Lyndon
  19. Can I confirm the lexan sheeting goes on the outside of the doors after assembly. My manual is very brief on building the doors. Thanks Lyndon
  20. I will check. Maybe they doubled up. They did double up on my door hinges Lyndon
  21. Nope. Got them. I think they are something from another kit. I'm very pleased as apart from these I have used every part. Lyndon
  22. Yep and I can't find them anywhere
  23. I have come to the end of my parts. But I can't find where these go. Any ideas ??? The straps with the part numbers Thanks Lyndon
  24. Engine cowl. Im setting this up. From what I see of the manual which is very confusing ... I have to cut the lower to fit re the muffler. Then the lower is attached by 1 zus on each side and 2 on the upper. So the lower cowl has six zus fasteners. Then the top is fastened to the lower cowl. Is this all that holds it on ??? Also my manual states a bracket bracket but its not clear where it goes. ( as per pic) Any help would be great. Thanks Lyndon
  25. That looks like a good set up. I'm thinking one throttle only. There is no need for a passenger one im thinking. Lyndon
