  1. "The engine is brand new, only run for a minute or so to verify starting etc" Think it might help to explain the corrosion No offence but I doubt many people would buy an engine described as brand new but looking like its been left outside in the rain for weeks
  2. Yea I've heard they arn't exactly nice handling but Id still like to ave a go. as for the PA20 with tailgear not being any more short field capable, well maybe not performance figures wise but there are other consideration in some of the rougher land outs I've only flown the 2 seater vagabond though.
  3. Danny I just got a carmo reg/rec.....did you ground the case?, the accompanying drawing shows no ground connection to case which tbh would make things difficult mounting wise, I'll give carmo a call on monday but saw you mention them and thought worth an ask
  4. Oooo a Dromader..nice That Piper Pacer is an odd one, it actually started life as a Tripacer I assume someone with a bit of sense bought it and converted it into the superior layout
  5. I dunno, Ive a lot of experience of 2 stroke motorcycle engines but only had a couple of rotax 503s and zero experience of this engine Have to say the figures sound great and quite plausible untill you get to the TBO, has anyone actually done 1000 hours on the same crank and main bearings on this engine?
  6. Damn thats not good at all, add to that the muscle loss and cardio vascular problems from lack of activity and low gravity which I'm sure they will be substantial due to lessening motivation for exercise and morale as time goes by and it will be quite a trial for them. Only upside is It will give the scientists a good bit of data for planning a mars mission I bet they hate each other by the time they get back down to earth and will be very reluctant to repeat the experience, poor sods
  7. ??..The whole aircraft?
  8. Oo thanks, much heavier than I thought
  9. I expect if you nip down to your local Computer store (if you have one) you'd get a small tube for a reasonable price
  10. Yea but dont forget 1 millilitre of water has a mass of 1 gram, Ill bet the wacker paste isnt far off from that equivalence
  11. OK,Firstly my point of view should probably be disregarded ..I have very inputted very little to the site and I'm not even Australian. So with that said, I reckon you should do exactly what you see best serves your own interests and if there are some here really attached to the site then maybe offer them the chance to take it over All the best and enjoy your retirement oops edit...should have said Im talking about the mention of closing the Rec flying site, the other one I have of course never visited
  12. 6mm Stainless steel seems a little under engineered to me unless its in double shear..........but I guess they know what they are doing
  13. Sounds like a good setup Skippy
  14. Not optimum perhaps but I wouldnt call that ineffective, the energy absorbed by bending or even breaking the Longerons is energy the body no longer has if/when it hits something I dont even like flying in aircraft that only have one cross over shoulder harness tbh, mine has a 4 point . a quick thought on some 4 point setups I see the occupant has the lap straps way too high up on the torso (body shape plays a part), its possible to actually slide under such a setup in a crash and impart lower body injuries that might have not incurred if the straps were correctly placed....and If you fly with them loose for comfort in the cruise practice how to tighten them quickly
  15. I've no idea if this aircraft had fitted shoulder harness (I did think pretty much all the older PA-28s had been retrofitted), but to me it's crazy not to fit them I hope the guy is ok, Fractured ribs hurt like hell and there is no way you can immobilise them (you simply have to breath)
  16. Perhaps missing How small an amount 20ml is.
  17. Great innit....lets not just produce a new type of aircraft based on a drone but scaled to carry people that has no safety history in of itself..but also lets make it Pilotless!! I have no idea whether other people will think yea thats ok I'll take a ride, but speaking for myself I think I'd rather stick a fork in my eye
  18. Something about the lines of that boeing reminded me of an old favourite of mine, the Bristol 138 Got to some crazy altitudes for the time and the pilot's Outfit was pure Flash Gordon...love it
  19. A good friend of mine regularly visits Chinese Factories to arrange supply of mostly audio/video equipment, he has said they often hand you some poor/inconsistant quality to start with and you have to be really clear about what quality you want...so it takes him a couple of trips but in the end he gets the quality he wants and even with the to and fro factored in and the time lost it must make more financial sense than buying from home or perhaps there just isnt anywhere closer that actually makes mass market electronics these days From my own experience in the world of Bicycles, China makes some right garbage as do a lot of the suppossed high end western companies, but Taiwan makes awesome Bikes, the best in the world..funny that Sorry for huuuge thread drift
  20. Looks Nasty, hope they both make a full recovery
  21. A lot of us in the UK run something called a Pilot aware, it transmits its own proprietry signal that other Pilot aware users can recieve ...AND.... it recieves ADSB, Mode C/S and Flarm, I was involved in early testing and run one still, its probably the best traffic reciever out there for small GA use...actually forget probably it IS the best Traffic reciever out there for small GA use😁
