  1. Yes, but its usually dependent on the software you are running on whatever tablet/smartphone that the receiver is connected to, most have options for Audio alerts of Traffic as well as airspace warnings etc. Some RaspberryPi based devices like the PilotAware I use also have the option to put out basic audio alerts straight from the device itself.
  2. Its the Daily Mail...must be true🤣
  3. Damn those Russkies are terrible Liars, they need to get some tips from the Israelis methinks
  4. Anyone living in the UK will appreciate that Phil's offer was generous even then, think the going exchange rate these days is about 400 litres of UL91 to 1 doctors appointment
  5. I managed an hour flying one in Cuba many years ago, then a month later learned it had broken up in the air with the loss of 17 souls They are tough birds but all are getting old and maintainance heavy
  6. Well depends, the transponder needs interrogation from ATC, but transmission is a broadcast that any appropriate receiver in an aircraft or on the ground can receive. There is much misunderstanding in this thread and I would reccomend anyone reading it to fact check
  7. I thought that too at first glance, but arent the windows all wrong?
  8. I'm betting on a compact granite residence with a nice chiseled balcony overlooking the ruins
  9. Spacesailor, there was bloke designed such a system for light aircraft engines, but I cant remember his name ill post if I find it. the idea had more to do with cooling the undersides of the cylinders more as that was the hot spot nearest the exhaustson his chosen engine, the only downside i remember was the potential for a screen covered in oil if you had a leak. Skippy I've never measure the temp in my engine bay, are you measuring this in the cruise? p.s. 25c above ambient doesnt seem at all worrying to me, but like I' said earlier, not something I've investigated in the Rotax installs I've had.
  10. Im saying nowt
  11. No worries, it was about the Hummelbird

  14. Brenden, here in wet and windy (almost constantly) Wales there are plenty of Jodels, Robins and even tiger moths that manage to go on year after year, as you say things like inspection holes and borescopes make it practical and any doubt revealed by such then you start thinking of cutting out bits of fabric. One great thing about wood is that within its structural limits it doesnt really have a fatigue life...unlike aluminium alloys
  15. What were the updates? bigger toilets for his fat arse?
  16. Whilst absolutely true in steady windspeeds there is a caveat you have to remember an aircraft has inertia, the heavier it is and the faster it is travelling the greater the inertia, this evidenced in Gusty conditions when you will notice your ASI Fluctuating as your aircraft doesnt immediately adjust itself to its trimmed speed. This is also applicable to an aircraft turning sharply in high windspeeds, there will be a lag in the aircraft re-assuming its trimmed speed, the lag being in proportion to the aircrafts inertia In Reality with our low inertia aircraft at relatively low speeds this is not a major consideration, but the effect does exist.
  17. It's the other way around, you need to contact them to be omitted. One possibility for not showing up is lack of nearby receiver coverage
  18. Correct term is Affirmative usually shortened to "Affirm", "Confirm" as Facthinter uses is non standard
  19. I don't doubt the story of honing still being visible at 1500 hours, the plating on 912 Bores is very hard Something I dont think many people notice is the name cast on the cylinders, a very well regarded Italian cylinder manufacturer ...they aint made by Rotax
  20. AoA (Angle of Attack) Indicator Garfly made a usefull thread covering them here...
  21. The fan blades are on backwards
  22. You'll get solid info on Rotax engines here... https://www.rotax-owner.com/en/forum But what you actually have to adhere to is down to your regulatory regime
  23. Red750, I imagine you are familiar with the site below but just in case and as a heads up for anyone else that is interested in WW2 Era German aircraft projects most of which never flew.. http://www.luft46.com/
  24. The gearbox inspection is at 600 hour if no slipper clutch and 1000hr if you have the slipper. (I believe regular Avgas use will shorten the inspection period to 600hours even with the slipper fitted) Cost is dependent on what condition its found to be in and work/parts it requires, could just be a belleville washer needed or new dogs..etc etc...variable Just what work is actually mandatory is more down to your regulatory system than what rotax stipulates (UL Engines are not certified)
