  1. As you say Burnie, if that includes Radio and Transponder it seems an unrealisticly low price. P.S. in the UK Microair radios don't have a great reputation, I have no idea wheteher that is deserved and perhaps its just that if you do have a problem with one its a bit irksome having to send it half way round the world to get looked at.
  2. Aah interesting that choice between the tendency to ground loop with a more forward positioned maingear and the likelihood of nosing over when placed further back, never knew about this mod on tiger moths.
  3. SS, I think most of these instrument apps either use the onboard accelerometers and other sensors that are in the Ipad or if external sensors like engine sensors are needed they hook them up to a bluetooth or wifi module and get them to interface with the Ipad that way, same can be done with Android Tablets For instance the GPS reciever and Traffic detection unit I use both connect to my Android via WiFi
  4. Fortunate that he didnt take any innocent people out with him, but his family now have to suffer the loss.
  5. It's a very interesting engine, but despite having many enjoyable hours behind a Rotax 503 in a Shadow I'm not sure id be happy behind a piston ported 2 stroke in that power range and in the type of aircraft it will be fitted to. Oh yea and that price😬
  6. Talking about alternatives, whats the current impression on Rotary Piston (Wankel) engines? There are loads of them now being produced for UAVs but has longevity improved? (I seem to remember Tip seals where the main problem with low engine reliability) There was a Sherwood Cub with a rotary piston engine near me a few years back but I notice the company now offers it with either a Polini single cylinder 2 stroke or a larger Hirth engine so perhaps they still have a way to go.
  7. I know its not exactly great at efficiency but 912/912s' are lower consumption than an O200 or Jab2200 in most applications I suppose compared to some of the auto conversions they may fair less well.
  8. I think it was fairly common for the B models to be built with a Gypsy
  9. Its mind boggling really, I remember as a young un seeing some footage where a load of slowly decaying Superfortresses were stored somewhere really remote in the desert and I fantasised about how cool it would be to just set up camp in one of them and spend the summer out there
  10. I still have a Kitplanes mag fromm the 80s that has a mention of an aero conversion of the Honda Goldwing motorcycle engine that actualy retained 3 of the gears so you could change the loading for takeoff and cruise It always intrigued me but I guess never had any success as I've never found anything else written about it Anyone here know anything about it?
  11. Hello Blue, its more the extra 20 or so kilos of fuel I was thinking of rather than the tank weight , it must be ok if care taken obviously but I know for sure it would take my particular Nynja outside limits unless I adjusted something, maybe put the battery forward of irewall in my case. Yea a few are fitting wing tanks but they of course don't shift the weight so far back.
  12. Blue, that must really take the CG close to the rear limit, Can you still have a Luggage Hammock with that tank?
  13. RFGuy, I didnt like the look of that connector either So did this...
  14. Yea Its quite Odd seeing a Stampe in RAF markings, I wonder if its historically correct?
  15. Id love to have a backseat with a proper pilot in one of them Phoons Have flown a small section, but its a bit different at 70 knots😁 (don't try this on a weekday) p.s Mach refers to the place Machynllyth nothing to do with the speed of sound which is what naturally comes to mind
  16. A Russian mission could likely get them down a lot quicker, but well.....
  17. I didnt have much luck with my venture into the alternative area...my problem centred around the drive arrangement which consisted of a 582 reduction box and centirugal clutch joind by a rubber coupling, the parts didnt agree with each other and one almost total loss of drive in climbout and the problems of dealing with the very unhelpfull german supplier of the clutch meant I gave in and fitted a 912. But its always good to see alternative engines tried and the viking does seem pretty sorted. What do you have in your Skyranger?
  18. Oh no doubt on the basics of the story, but like the bloke down the pub what you read in the daily mail will be... how can I say this?....Somewhat embellished 😁
  19. Daily mail = "...bloke down the pub told me ...."
  20. My hovercraft is full of eels
  21. France?
  22. Can't see how they walk away from that one😁
  23. Thats a more honest way to do it , but over here when you see the hours match exactly the same its usually because the owner hasnt fitted a Hobbs and has taken the aircrafts flight hours and written them down as engine hours, which in the space of over 2000hrs can mean a shed load of undocumented engine hours spent warming up, taxiing, given a ground run after oil change etc.
  24. Yea I know happens all the time over here some even do it by logging engine hours to tally with what there flight time was, always raises a smile when I see times match in adverts Still have no idea what difference abeing a Rotax engine has to do with it Oh and lighten up, I made no inference it was an australian only thing.
