  1. As I've mentioned in my experience it just works for a less than adequate time period. If you look at the installation manual, Rotax actually states fitment should include a supporting airbox, the omission of such in many uncertified aircraft is done for a variety of reasons, mainly space and weight constraints
  2. UK permit to fly, which allows the great majority of maintenance to be carried out by the owner, with some work (eg on the control system) needing to be signed for by a competent second person and some work like modifications needing approval by the overseeing organisation (BMAA, LAA) and sign off by an inspector
  3. I can't see it being fuel as it seems to effect engines that were run on various fuels, ethanol free/laced/avgas. I wonder if it could be hot cold cycles..hot when running then left getting cold soaked in hangers'''repeat every flight , quite temperature difference. I don't imagine engines in your part of the world ever see cold part of that cycle. I'm just guessing here.
  4. Strange indeed, over here its extremely commonplace to get splits, I think every rotax 912 sans airbox owner I know has mentioned it occuring to them at some point I wonder if climate plays a part?, though I dont see how cold damp conditions could lead to this, especially as the splits always seem to start internally
  5. Edit...I'll just use the ignore function
  6. If you have no airbox and just filters hanging on the carb throats I'd reccomend removing the socket and inspecting at this point Brendan, I took the socket of my new to me Jabiru engine that had just 9 hours on it but years of sitting around waiting for the builder to complete and it was starting to split, they split internally.....it seems to be a quite rare occurence in Jabs but its so easy to remove and check its worth doing on your 100 hour checks imo. Now if it was a Rotax 912 with no airbox...well Ive replaced them on one engine twice in a 1 year and actually had one split half way round and the carb fell right off luckily after landing, Jabs seem far more forgiving in this dept. as Nev mentioned cantilever mounting on a stub of rubber with no support for the other end of the carb is far from ideal, maybe your aircraft has a rigid airbox that end..if so disregard my comment it'll probably last hundreds of hours mounted that way.
  7. You've wandered off into aspects and vehicles I made no comment on so Ive no idea why you quoted my comment on cable barriers versus motorcycles and there obviously poor design in respect of motorcycle impact, just look at the things, low dow so if hit upright youd just highside into the oppossing traffic, or if you had already slid onto the ground it probably do major damage to a limb at best..and if you ended up on top of one of the posts..well thats something I've experienced at quite low speed and still broke 3 ribs and a collar bone.
  8. Wow, I just had a read up on those cable barriers, whoever designed them was either an idiot who didnt understand the physics behind a motorcycle and or rider impacting such a device or simply didnt GAF
  9. Risk compensation is very real, the person in his/her huge modern suv with full insurance feels so safe they are almost guaranteed to drive like an idiot Consideration for others could help balance out this effect but there is very little of evidence that quality exists in the majority of people
  10. As someone who once worked as a motorcycle Courier in the smoke (only did it for 3 months as 2 blokes in the outfit got killed on the job in that short time so I legged it) I'd love to see that very detailed study
  11. 914 is known to have a substantial rpm drop on switching off one ignition circuit What are your numbers? https://legacy.rotaxowner.com/si_tb_info/serviceinfo/si-914-034.pdf
  12. TAS is a calculation, it's can't be directly measured. As far as the aircraft is concerned it always experiences Forces relative to its indicated airspeed.
  13. Vne will be an given at indicated airspeed?, 244 knots indicated is over 400knots TAS at 35000'
  14. Why are you are holding pieces of paper saying 14 oct 2023 in a post made a day before that date?
  15. That's good, over here the last availabe Ethanol free fuel (Esso Super unleaded) started adding ethanol last september, hopefully you guys get to have the good stuff for a while yet.
  16. Just a reminder to confirm the compatability of your fuel system when using Mogas containing Ethanol, I believe some Jabirus have Fibreglass tanks

  18. Its the USAF Nev🤣
  19. Personal Responsibility used to be a thing, but that was a long long time ago
  20. I dont know which one was driving but I see one is wearing flip flops and the other wedge/platform shoes...tbh I think the current state of affairs is more an age thing than what country they come from, not saying that doesnt play a part but it seems to me anyone in the 40ish or below age bracket simply has no clue how to behave in society. This what you get from adopting a culture of "its ok jimmy you're doing fine" told to the kid who just spat at his classmate and can't spell his own name at age 12, been going on a few decades now.
  21. Yea apologies for mentioning non Australian procedures, I did say in my posts that I was talking about UK procedures but sorry that you remained confused
  22. Yep, The roads or rather the car drivers are terrible these days I'm probably quite capable of killing myself without everyone else trying to do it for me, I find young Ladies particularly dangerous..they simply dont seem to care all safe in their shiny metal boxes. tbh the Instructors seem really poor quality these days too, I had one tell me you don't need to indicate if there is nobody in the vicnity...wtf?? how about the guy you didnt see and just pulled out in front of?..idiot
  23. 90C is a good operating temp for a Jab on an XAir, the engine is exposed and the sensor will be under reading actual temperature
  24. A nice temperature then. Is this coming from the breather after the catch tank?, I guess if its very high humidity and there is no sign of the same high water contamination at the dipstick then its not too much or a worry and could be forming in the catch tank. Knowing how prone to bore corrosion the jabs are (unless its a gen 4) then Id want to get to the bottom of it. P.S. I've never had anything near that bad spat out by my Jab or any other air cooled engine
  25. Gordon Bennett!!! what oil temperature do you run at? Or is this a joke?
