  1. Welcome aboard, what are your interests? You will find a warm and helpful bunch on here for what ever you fly
  2. The last picture of the finished plane. for me simple would be each part has a single colour so you have the minimum of masking to do. This is just one idea, but then I am no artist....
  3. Recovering from a bad cold or flu, so not much progress. I am currently riveting the stabiliser frame, then I need to prime the top and bottom skins so this could take a while as I also need to go to the UK to pick up the engine :)
  4. I went through the sketches and chose the one you went for! They are really original and make it stand out from the crowd. I still can't decide but I want something simple to do
  5. You are doing really well! I wonder if you put a dome on the other side of the pliers if that would help centralise the rivet? I guess its the wing next for you?
  6. the pictures didn't work?
  7. You read my mind (not difficult not much in it) I was looking for dimple sets and found a a very rough and ready set at Sonex aircraft for 10$ or so, it has to be worth a try. Looking at the tail skin if the rivet passes through it and is firmly held on just the rib it should still work and clamp the loose skin in place. Still a dimple would solve the problem.
  8. What did I do? I know I just keep bad company
  9. Thanks Ibob, I wonder if the hole in the skin could be drilled out so the nut goes through altogether.
  10. Sorry my spell checker Rivnuts the seven for the inspection hatch
  11. It was always the one to aspire to, but too many cheap and good Chinese stuff out there now! a real shame!
  12. A quick question about the rivets for the fin, do the rims of the rivets stick up from the skin? It seems that they do, or should the hole be countersunk?
  13. I find the best way id to cut/pull the steel out from the back if it is accessible, then use an undersized bit to widen the hole then slowly drill with the correct sized bit just to the point where the rivet either snaps or spins. Then remove the rest by either drifting it out with a punch or again cutting with wire cutters from both sides. The problems I have had have come from either not being able to get the steel pin outing having drill in from the side, or being too enthusiastic with the full sized bit and drilling right through with a slightly eccentric hole or just making the hole a loose fit. I am sure my technique is set to improve though as practice does make perfect! :(
  14. Are there any guides on what is an acceptable drilled out hole and what isn't? some of mine were very slightly loose and others I ended up with a notch in the rim of the hole. I guess the soft aluminium will spread a certain amount to fill such defects?
  15. Thats a very good point, I am no where near that stage yet, but I am already aware that there are probably two conflicting sets of instructions and the mix of one adjustable and one fixed may need some fettling! It was ICP that suggested the compromise. I can't see yet if there are any significant differences in comfort between the two, but I already plan to make new seat cushions.
  16. It's amazing how quickly the tone lowers ;)
  17. It's good practice though ;)
  18. On mine it is just the hole in the rib and not the spar that is out
  19. Thomas if this is the only hole out of alignment and you put the stiffeners in at this position then I don't think a long hole would matter. I have just found a guillotine and sheet metal folder at work !!! Happy days :)
  20. Well it is either my computer or subconscious that intervened there! But I'm not telling which part!
  21. At least your MTOW is realistic! Here it is 475 with parachute!
  22. Just noticed it automatically censored my post!
  23. I started to learn last year after one of my sons started. I did a trial lesson as I was worried I would get airsick, thankfully all went well and I still cant wipe the smile off my face!! I dont know the system where you are but you need to decide what class of licence you want, I chose ULM (ultra light ) as it is the best compromise of cost per hour and doesn't require super human fitness either. Good luck and let us know how you get on.
  24. As a short arse I ordered the ajustable seat for the pilots side only, that way I get the best of both worlds :)
