  1. Woo Berringer are VERY nice indeed, however I can't afford them yet. I can see that with plenty of soap and force you could get one side on, but I can't see how the other half would pop out with just the pressure of the inner tube.
  2. Thanks Skee, I think I need some soap
  3. Some pictures, I must be doing something wrong:

The factory are running them in everything they have to build up hours. It certainly seems to be a serious contender but no idea when it will be available.
  5. Well I know I am doing this wrong by doing things out of order but I thought this would be an easy job and would save some space and prevent parts going astray! I followed the instructions and drilled a new hole on the rim for the air valve 27mm from the edge. then I got the tire and tried to "slip it over the drilled half of the wheel, it goes maybe half way and then is completely stuck. Is there a "knack" to this? I tried washing up liquid but no luck. any advice welcome?
  6. Thank you for all the comments and links. I have read the Vans instructions some time ago and it is very good advice. It also points out that the Ali used by vans is more prone to cracking than the Savannah if the edges are not smoothed. So after much cogitation, swearing and time, I have decided on my strategy: 1. file off the small nibs left by the cutting process with a fine toothed file. 2. using a deburring blade remove sharp edges from the larger punched holes and smooth with red scotchbrite 3. run all edges and rivet holes over a scotchbrite wheel 4. run fingers over all edges and holes 5. check for blood next step is to clean the Ali ready for corrosion protection... will get back when I have tried it.
  7. Please be patient I am still unboxing!! Got the rudder parts together and have been demurring cleaning filing etc
  8. So the first question of many: I have got the main parts for the tail fin sorted out and will start cleaning them up. After running a demurring tool along the edges it seems to have "pulled" at ally in places and seems best suited to areas where there are sharp long burrs. I have also rubbed the parts down with red scotchbrite, which seems to do a better job of demurring for the majority of the edges. Any advice welcome
  9. Thank you all for your best wishes and encouragement! It is appreciated. How did /do I feel? initially knackered as it was a long day and more heavy lifting than I care to do these days. When we opened the box (it was at ICP so they could explain a few things) I was impressed at the organisation and dedication to their work, surprised at the weight of it and preoccupied with a safe return, so I didn't really get any real sense of what I have let myself in for. I am starting to get excited now and my mind is beginning to race with all the things I can do from riveting to painting to wiring etc. It is daunting when you look at the pile of bits and what it will end as, but when I looked at the instructions and got used to the shear number of parts it certainly doesn't look impossible. In fact all credit to ICP despite some oddities in the manual it seems very well organised and easy to follow. So the next step is to finish organising the garage (which is now even harder due to having a plane scattered in it) check that I have all the parts and organise them into "chapters" as per the manual. I want to start with the smaller parts such as the elevator or fin just to get my (washed) hand in. I have got Kitlog to document the build and track costs etc but it is a bit frustrating as you can only do three photos at a time. I also post on Facebook to the Savannah owners club and one or two other places. As the whole computer thing I find frustrating I may stick to kitlog and a blog. The draw back is I have no idea what a blog is or if it can do what I want. Any ideas here would be helpful. My aim is to document the build as a way of helping me remember what I did and to share as much of the pleasure and pain as possible. Lots of photos and some written explanation are more my style.
  10. I hadn't noticed the price hike! Yes of course we can share I can place an order now if you like. 695gr for 50. where in Germany are you?
  11. It has been a very long day so I havent had time to update my other posts. So here is what I found in the box when I opened it up. There is a stranger set of pliers (you need to tighten them yourself) 10 silver, ten black and 30 copper clekos, as well as a rather nice looking rivet gun. Wading through the manuel, well the first few pages you need to either buy or make a solid rivet squeezer. I am not so sure that I can find a pair of pliers with a long enough throat for the job so will probably make an order to aircraft spruce and top up the clekos at the same time.
  12. Well I am off to sleep so I can get up at 5 to set off and collect my Savannah from ICP. Finally the day has arrived and I will get my grubby little hands on the biggest airfix model I will ever build, cannot wait to get home and start unpacking. I will upload pictures of the more interesting bits in due course.

At the flying day in the summer ICP were flying several of their own fleet with them and they seemed to run really well. I did ask if I could buy one it was clear it wouldn't be any time soon :(

I am no expert but at the moment we only have ULM at 472.5kg (if fitted with a parachute) Everything above that is certified. Crazy as the 600kg is much more practical and realisable figure.

I really wish that Europe would create an LSA/experimental catagory!
  16. Hi Major Tom, I found this site very useful: Zyozyo He bought some of his tooling from : Pince à riveter à levier VADIUM There is also a link to a Sketchup model of a Savannah which is great for trying out colour schemes. Hope that helps
  17. Hi Mark, I like the keep it simple approach as I am too easily distracted and prefer to look out of the window. I have been looking a t the MGLs either as you have done with two extremes or as the explorer lite. Unfortunately for some reason they dont have a good reputation here and that can have quite an influence in so much as I can't easily get to try one out. The Avmap appears to be well liked and from time to time they seem to have some good "special deals" I missed a recent one with a complete set of thee EKV engine box, and efis for 2500 euros. I am not in a rush at the moment but would like to have ago with a few of the alternatives and if possible decide before I complete the plane. Otherwise I will go with the standard instruments and save my pennies for the future.
  18. yes This is brilliant, I want one!!
  19. I did speak to them at ICP about this and they basically confirmed what Kyle has said above and in his other threads. Paint each side of the surfaces that are in contact after first preparing them (I guess that means at least a degrease and scotchbrite, even better with Aluprep or similar) They added that if you can get Alodine that was the ideal solution as there is virtuallt no additional weight, but it is almost impossible to get in quantity in Italy and disposal can be very expensive. If you are building a float plane then you should epoxy prime all surfaces. Having said all that both ICP and my local distributor added that the black gloop is more than good enough for most uses. There are several spray on products that can be used after construction that provide a yearly protection so all isn't lost if you find you are developing corrosion later in the planes life.
  20. I can't remember if I read it on here or on the Facebook page, but someone had made their own brackets for the throttle lever arm to help remove the slop in the original system. The Macfarlane system looks very good, but you are paying for a certified bit of kit.
  21. Thanks for those files! I didn't get the option as such. I can pay 250 euros for a layout designed for a Samsung iPad thing...
  22. I have used this service to send money from Switzerland to the UK they seem to slightly over estimate the fees but then reimburse the real cost as the payment is made. It works very well and is quick and very cheap.
  23. Hi MajorTom, here is the response from Browns they seem typically American i.e. very efficient: Hi Richard, Thanks for contacting us. We can fit these items in a "Flat Rate" International Priority Mail box from our post office. The box can weigh up to 20 lbs, and this shipment will weigh about 18-1/2 lbs. The cost for this shipment is $86.95. The normal transit time is 10-14 business days.
