  1. Before you pull apart the aftermarket starter, can you check to see it's spinning the same direction as the Rotax one? I would be surprised if the aftermarket one isn't pretty much exactly the same, other than the possible direction of rotation. So it should have an oil seal, since the engines these starters go on have the same set up as the 912. That is, sprag clutch in the crankcase or gearbox, running in oil. Looking forward to more news 🙂
  2. Whatever the details, people smashed their heads on the ceiling. Lesson? Stay buckled up, no matter what the sign says.
  3. Yes, one guy observed that no one who was buckled in was injured. Not surprising. Like you say, every single passenger from that flight is going to remain buckled in during flights from now on...
  4. Deceased possibly due to heart attack. 6 or 7 severely injured. I ALWAYS have my seatbelt on when seated. Even loosened off a bit for comfort it's going to prevent you from smashing your head. I'm sure pretty much everyone here would too. https://amp.9news.com.au/article/7e6480ac-852c-4ca4-ae03-c58cd0cbeb25
  5. But back to the original question, yes Holden was definitely better than Ford 😎
  6. You missed skippys point. I almost did too. If you have exactly the same engine in two very different aircraft (say a Zenith 701 and a Sling, both with Rotax 912uls), then if one aircraft is just much more streamlined it will go faster for the same fuel consumption per hour. Then if it's going faster for the same fuel consumption, you are flying for a shorter period, so total consumption is lower for the faster plane.
  7. What was the question again? 😄
  8. I actually think he deliberately slowed down for the shit. A friend of mine regularly posts 4k footage from his racing drone, and I think that goes over 200km/h. Not saying this particular drone is capable of those speeds, but if you wanted more close footage you could use a faster drone for the takeoff sequence, and something else for other footage. You'd need to, racing drones don't run for all that long 😄
  9. I guess you didn't. A Sim would have all shadows in the right place though, they use realistic physics. If your PC isn't the latest and greatest, shadows is one of the first things to turn off.
  10. Yes and No. The journalist reported the correct thing, right? And then an interviewee voiced an opinion which is incorrect. Perhaps the only thing might have been to reiterate that the journalists statement was correct not the bystanders.
  11. What on earth are you guys smoking? It's not a flight sim 😆 Just some very nice footage, using drones
  12. Your ebay listing says CCW. If you are careful you can put some jumper leads on it and see which way it spins. Be careful though as it will jump when it spins. Unless you carefully mount the lugs in a vice. But don't clamp the carcass (body) in a vice since I think it is permanent magnet, you don't want to crack them. Does your old starter work at all? You can do the same with that and see if they both spin in the same direction.
  13. Maybe think of what things people might need in a pinch. Tyre patch kits, cable ties etc? But definitely snacks and drinks! And a toilet. If oil filters, then oil too.
  14. I have imagine this is not their first rodeo, and anything that has crossed your mind, will have crossed theirs too...
  15. Apparently snap vents are getting hard to get. This supplier does them https://www.plastics4performance.com/snap-vents-pop-it-vents?fbclid=IwZXh0bgNhZW0CMTEAAR0VNwzHvoAdOi7g5c3l2edpvi7nveAE7Knh_t3GNufXDM98cgnv8KoLPk0_aem_AfrUOBPFubMkDXaOb15b16WnLb0a7RWPMCarHliNi651_a-SUE-6qnePpD6paCLSYXJQR9g5JotV1BnOpXId1Hck
  16. Yes, although I think they actually only make parts for their own aircraft. That's what they say they'll continue to do. I might have to snap up an undercarriage, just in case...
  17. I can't remember if I ever noticed there were two power ratings! Going by that illustration, I have the 0.9kw version. Keep us informed!
  18. Yep. And the other Bushcat builders were saying just do the clamps up tighter 😄 I used 03-0010 and 03-0007 universal and 2 X 02-0951 Datsun 120y. Connectors came with the kit (25mm!)
  19. Oh, what I'm saying is our local lad is NOT convenient! So now I see some prices, Gates is cheaper and probably more convenient! I already use Gates rubber on the radiator hoses. That was an issue with the kit (they supply 27mm!). Although I got the different bends etc from various suppliers. Again, if I can avoid calling someone on the phone, the guy with the shopping cart on their website gets the sale.
  20. I was particularly interested in the 17mm. So you are saying it will be about $160 from the rotax supplier? You know I'm on board with getting equivalent quality from other suppliers if it's cheaper (and easier) but this hose in particular doesn't look to be much of a savings? Mind you , I've only emailed the local rotax once and didn't get a response. Almost as important as price is ease of purchase for me. It's the 21st century- if I can't just click on something and put it in a cart and buy it, that supplier goes down the list. It's why I buy so much from Aircraft Spruce. I guess if the 17mm hose is about the same price I'd still buy it from someone that I don't have to ring. GIVE ME CONVENIENCE OR GIVE ME DEATH!!!!
  21. I used a canvas strap type tool, but since I have a printer, .ight be worth making one of these 🙂
  22. What's it cost from Rotax?
