  1. Maybe, but the reg/rec is electronic so in that world everyone knows that it's a heat radiator but it's easier to say heat sink 🙂
  2. This is going to go off track very quickly, so before it all gets shut down may I point out that there is no prerequisite for refugee to be poor. If you are escaping a war or really dire circumstances, the first people to do so are going to have money/connections. What would YOU do to save your family, or better your life? Would you stay in a crappy situation and say 'oh no. You go first, you are poorer than me'? A sri Lankan friend of mine said to me once you would be forgiven for thinking most Sri Lankans are Catholics. Because most of them are in Australia. But he said that's because Catholics tended to be better educated and got better jobs and were generally richer. And of course better connections. If your country was about to turn to shit, what would YOU do with your money and connections? My father was a refugee. .

  5. But they did all the testing they could at the time. This guy spent hardly any money on it, AND charged people to be test pilots with them. Anyway, my point still stands that Bloom was right to be wary of him, but wrong to assume anything about Rush flying an experimental plane

This guy clearly was dodgy about his submersible and refused to test it to accepted practices but you can't surmise anything about his sub merely from the fact he flew an experimental aircraft.   7. I really feel it's too late in history to didn't too much time and money reinventing the wheel. Best thing is incremental improvements of reciprocal engines. The last bastion for them will be ships I reckon.
  8. Type 3 had a crank driven turbine instead of belt drive fan. I used to own a notchback. If you broke the fan belt you'd only end up with a flat battery.
  9. That's what made me say 'that figures' when I heard they overheat 😄 Mine is Dutch. They make lots of replacement motorcycle regulators and rectifiers. Australian supplier: vectriqparts.com.au
  10. I actually wouldn't be surprised! Funnily enough I went for an aftermarket reg/rec that costs MORE than the Rotax one 😄 . It's supposed to be more reliable, and has one less wire, the way it should be so I figured it was worth it in the long run 🙂
  11. I can't see how you could jump start an engine through a cigarette lighter socket. Charging yes, starting no. I mean if you could you could dispense with all that useless battery cable and save a few kilos 😄
  12. How much work are you going to do on a VW engine? The idea is simplicity. If it gets complicated and expensive, well get a fuel injected Rotax...

  15. I would say the latter if it's going to be long sections, in my mind having metal joiners will give it some strength. On mine it's that way, but I think the main reason would have been that there is not much chance of finding a hose exactly the right length and shape
  16. They used one of those lithium jump start jobbies on the Tecnam at the flying school a few months ago. Worked well, but I couldn't say how flat the battery was.
  17. Second hand engine. Out of a Tecnam . I will ask the mechanic if he has that box of bits. Thanks for the heads up 🙂
  18. Not new. Forgotten the year. Maybe 2017? Has the newer oil sensor for example. It came with one wire marked as soft start.
  19. There's a wire labelled for soft start, seperate from that housing. There are two of those housings with one empty spot each by the way. That's why I was thinking it might be for the kill switches. But I better make sure before blow something up 😁
  20. Would I be correct in assuming that the missing wire on this terminal block is where the ground to kill switch goes? If not, where? Also if so, what type of terminals am I asking for when ordering?
  21. That cowling looks the goods. Have you contacted that owner to see what they've done, and how successful and also to get some drawings?
  22. Since his oil is generally running too hot, I can't see that could do anything but run it slightly hotter at best. But, it looks handy for my plane so thanks for the heads up 😀
  23. One other thing to consider is airflow direction is not always as straight forward as you might think. Is it worth experimenting with the angle the cooler is facing in regards to airflow? For instance, pointing it downward a few degrees more than it is. An example of how surprising air flow directions can be- when they put a model of a Junkers JU 52 in a modern wind tunnel, apparently almost NONE of the corrugations were in line with actual airflow! Of course the plane didn't know that, and so it flew 😄
  24. Probably why Bushcat have gone with them. By all reports they work well. My plane is number 231. Had it quite a while so they might be up to say 300 or so aircraft. Even if mine was the first with those coolers , there's say 70 odd flying with them. You can trust that series of setrab coolers are suitable 🙂

And if you get it wrong, and the engine blows up, there will be max suck alright 😄 On a serious note, the Bushcat has its two oil coolers in different positions- one below the propeller, and one above. Perhaps if you used the same coolers you could have them in different positions too, thus potentially reducing the impact of poor cooling when taxiing? One could be in the cowl, one could be say under the wing a la Spitfire.
