  1. Well, apparently it has to be well over 2amps, which a lot of chargers aren't. Did you look at the link in my last post? It's a real eye opener and why I'm quite hesitant nowadays ..
  2. I'm taking everything you say on board, but you must differentiate between 'made in china ' and 'fake made in China'. I think I posted this write up somewhere else on this forum but it bears repeating. ALL of these chargers will be made in china: http://www.righto.com/2012/10/a-dozen-usb-chargers-in-lab-apple-is.html?m=1 Therefore I'm not going to buy any old thing off eBay. Just waiting on a reply from uavionix. I think it is remiss of them not to at least have a few recommendations.
  3. Very confusing. So my safest bet is to find a second hand apple iPad charger. Getting a new fake one is a great way to blow something up... Apple chargers are usb-c. I would just buy that but you are saying they won't work? https://www.apple.com/au/shop/product/MHJ93X/A/20w-usb-c-power-adapter?fnode=a8e3ab270aef03663fb59dbf32653013403659cdd66669189250079a6561ea194af73b56b1ecc3e9cff4b36e1560713f4ae048248da85dddfe2b691808e9a02a281dd1b9efe22096986b7fa45905eeb017ebd3d8ae2cb78b3d802e83455b8fcbdbe1600fea923f03462cf3e61092be34 Edit: I just shot uavionix an email to see what they recommend I buy and from where.
  4. These are various from all over. I'm a postie so every time I see free stuff on the footpath I pick it up. One of my other hobbies is retro gaming, and it's handy to have various supplies. I will have a look later. (Edit: none of mine are over 2amps). If not, what do they expect you to use? A lot of the aftermarket things have have very dirty voltages, I wouldn't have thought the manufacturer would want that left up to chance...
  5. I guess I have to supply my own charger? I have a box of USB chargers from other devices I've collected over time, just in case. Looks like my hoarding will pay off 😄
  6. Handy to know. Might install Enroute Flight Navigation on my android phone so I can experiment once I get the skyecho2. There will be a bit of a difference though to a tablet other than size since the tablet will JUST be for the plane, and will have minimal apps on it, while my phone has dozens installed that may or may not want to use wifi. Will order th se2 today and try and apply for that subsidy too.
  7. Now I'm more confused than ever 😄 I THINK cooling will be ok as I will be using a RAM mount, so plenty of air circulating around. When you say 30 seconds of fiddling. Is that a once off, or every time you want to pair it? If every time, then that's a problem because sure as eggs imma forget to do that until I'm in the air, where I don't want to be fiddling.
  8. Yes, that's exactly what I want to hear! If say ten people here have the combo of iPad/avplan working seamlessly, and two have some other combo that isn't quite as straightforward, then I'm going with the crowd 😃 All my life I've, for one reason or another gone with the option less used, and often felt frustrated by that choice. This time, I'm going to be with the in crowd 😄
  9. I am going to buy one soon. I don't have a tablet yet, and reading though a couple of threads here I see several people had trouble with android. This is a bummer because I was going to get a galaxy. So please list your combo of efb software and tablet brand and whether that combo worked straight outta the box with your skyecho2. I'll hold off getting a tablet. Im too lazy to fiddle with settings 😄
  10. We need a 😲 in the 'like' menu
  11. That sounds like a disaster waiting to happen 😲
  12. You kinda just put disparate facts together, gets a bit confusing..normally a few sentences in a row would have some relevance to each other. When the relevance runs out, you start a new paragraph...
  13. They're not just great. They're not just amazing. They're amazingly amazing!
  14. Which Gee Bee? Most were racing planes, I don't think those had a light wing loading 😄
  15. Corvair engines must be getting a bit thin on the ground. And probably not much in the way of aftermarket aircraft parts like the VW. for that plane, seems to me you would be better off running the Jabiru 3300, which I notice has been done before.
  16. Some info on what's available in the dub world right now https://www.kitplanes.com/air-cooled-volkswagen-engine-buyers-guide-2023/
  17. Heavy metal used to be my go to. She has hearing loss, but is in denial. For me to play something loud enough for her to hear it would mean I couldn't even be in my apartment while I play it 😅
  18. Since I moved back into my apartment, when I want to have an afternoon nap, I have to wear earplugs and earmuffs to drown out the racket of the crazy old bat next door who cranks up her telly- she only watches news, games shows and freakin ' horse racing. A more soulless cacophony than the sound of horse race calling, I cannot imagine. What are they even saying? No one knows 😅 Anyway, I can relate to the 'double bunger' method 🙂
  19. Thanks for the info Rogerc 🙂 I've owned a couple of air cooled VW cars so always wondered about them in Drouin Turbulents etc. And yes, I remember they always seem to develop cracks between the valves. And that's just under normal car use, not 80-90 % power all day 😲 Seems I'm best sticking to 'on condition ' Rotax for any future projects. My days of constant tinkering with engines is behind me I think 😄 Old man and one track, I must point out that 1) the corvair engine 6 is by definition a flat 6, not a flat 4 😄 2) vw crankcases were magnesium from the start. The racing guys upgrade them to aluminium because it's sturdier, if a bit heavier.
  20. Just curious about vw based motors. 4 cylinder. I hear the propeller is driven from the generator/fan side, not the crankshaft side. Or are some from the clutch end? In any case, what's your experience? Hundreds of happy hours? Had it once, but never again?
  21. I've been wondering about that. I might ask some questions in the engines thread. Pretty sure the Jodel that pops into the airfield from time to time has a VW
  22. That's a seriously nice looking plane. Better looking than the Sonex, which I like. Both on VW power.
  23. The bushcat has a neat design. One oil cooler on the top is in/out and the main exit of the rest of the cooling air is out the sides
