  1. I had James Hubbard at Murray Bridge give 7595 , my j230 , a dynamic balance too. The results were impressive. Smooth is the word. I would swear that there is more power too......... Marcus
  2. No wish to find out. The spectrum management lot seem to have been revived lately. It is likely that the CASA gentlemen have a checklist for the approved type and act upon the ASMAs behalf. And they can seize stuff.
  3. I think the problem relates to the radios operating essentially from DC to light in the spectrum. Certain of our happy citizens have made a good deal out out selling this spectrum off to the punters. The nations recent foray into Digital TV is one such recent example . I too carry a handheld portable in the flight bag\safety bag. It was selected because it has a die-cast case, can run on AA dry-cell s at reduced power, covers the air band, is small and light and robust. I cary a spare set of dry cells...... If I transmit I will probably be in the shit at the time and will happily pay any fine that my masters deem proper. The difficulty lies with a ramp check. Stay away from flyins.......
  4. Gidday. I fly mostly out of Murray Bridge, YMBD. 20/02 is a gravel strip, "stabilized" with some plastic goo. 27/09 is grass. The nick name for YMBD is the "quarry". The forecast for Monday 16th was reasonable, getting worse heat wise later in the week. I hope to go flying once a week, to keep the muscle memory of what to do fresh in whats left of my mind. It was a blue sky day that always seems to mean "bumpy". A couple of touch and goes, went over to "Rollos", an adjacent dirt strip in the same CTAF; touch and go. All Good. So over to Mannum and then up the Murray for 25 nM or so. The bottom reaches of the Murray seems full now. Back to a now deserted YMBD. Full stop and a good coffee at the Flying School. That is my last flight pretty much. Marcus
  5. Just tried it as advertised, works fine.... Marcus
  6. The problem of slowwww is back again. Fast on the Encounter Bay isp, slow here in Adelaide.(different isp, but same laptop). Thursday am it was fine in Adelaide and Encounter Bay Wednesday. Logged in a few minutes ago back in Adelaide Sat night and it is back to don't bother.... Marcus
  7. search for Fuseable Alloy Rod (Woods Metal) 200gm regards Marcus
  8. Available on fleabay in Aus for $60 odd for 200 gm. Tain't cheap, but available..... I used to have some and play with it 60 years back...... regards Marcus
  9. I think it is called Woods metal.... melts in boiling water. A mixture of bismuth, lead, tin and cadmium from memory. regards Marcus
  10. I reckon the "120 knots at 20 litres per hour" means " choose one.." The misery meter on 24-7595 says I burn around 35-40 litres per hour to get 120 knots . Around 2850 rpm. I am now thinking of both mods.... although it is starting first go at the moment..... . Not after a night out freezing usually. Cold start kit first then...... regards Marcus
  11. Look up Shorai 12v 14 AH lithium iron on Google. They have a special charger to balance the internal cells. Don't seem to self discharge at all. regards Marcus
  12. I hesitate a little to write this..... I ordered my (2010) j230 with the Anderson connector on the cowl. This to allow jump starting in the field. I used this as designed on a cold morning at Horsham once. Worked well. Then it struck me... what to do if there is no 12v source? In short I purchased a LITHIUM ION GO KART BATTERY YT7B4 (YT7B-BS) 130CCA from the batteryman who advertises on ebay. This battery weighs less than 1 kilo and is the physical size of a normal alarm gel battery. The Anderson plugs are available from Jaycar along with suitable high current wiring. Got a good charger from Fleabay . The high cranking current is real. The thing just spins the jab motor..... Store it in a steel cabinet most of the time, regards Marcus
  13. I find one with local time and Greenwich time is good ... Marcus:lost:
