  1. When I learnt to fly gliders we had no engine! I think it does depend on the aircraft getting used though.
  2. Bit like the guy who was a big hit in the industry, he's been fired a dozen times.
  3. Always great to hear, thanks for sharing.
  4. Looks a bit like a lovely Pietenpol undercarriage? The one I flew was hand made, every bit of it -
  5. Ah, good stuff! That look around after release and on decent is an extremely important one! Particularly if it's not a real good day, as everyone is staying close to the field... Great fun though, and you get to tow up some amazing pilots - and some...err, yeah...
  6. I've got a Solitaire, which I'm not entirely sure how similar to a Sapphire the airframe is.. however if you need anymore info give us a yell.

    Jet A-1 Cessna 182

    This looks promising! http://www.australianflying.com.au/news/cessna-introduces-jet-a-182-skylane
  8. G'day, where about's are you training? I'm assuming you would like training more in the traffic control type radio calls than CTAF?
  9. So I got a notice the other day saying that the July/August edition was the last hard copy version I'll be getting - as they are now concentrating on the 'on-line' one. Bit sad as I did actually read these from time to time in my smoko breaks etc... I guess, the times... they are a changin'
  10. Never flown a Sapphire so I can't really compare... it's good fun all the same
  11. Haha, yeah I thought I'd put an interesting title just for the fun of it...
  12. It should be accurate - but I reckon it's got a lot to do with a persons attitude. Doing school/club comps are a great way of keeping up that finesse, I did one just recently actually, was great fun - flour bombing, spot landings with glide approach etc.. but in this comp you weren't just marked on the accuracy of the bomb, or landing. It was almost a flight test in that the instructor marked you on everything from when you closed that door. I enjoyed every minute of it - the best thing is afterwards you can look at your score sheet and see where you didn't get such high marks, and things you did well at. And then you can adjust yourself from there. Flying with other pilots is also a good way to learn and observe, or observe and learn! Not to mention other aircraft as well, if you're in a position to have that opportunity.

    DIY Firewall Forward

Not really on subject, but just couldn't help myself... what aircraft is that in your profile picture? Looks very nice!
  14. Hey Maj, no I ran out of time! Was a pretty packed on trip... managed a flight around the Rock and surrounding areas though, which was great. Video to come...
  15. Check out the size of the con-rods! These guys will do anything to get their engines to give it all!
  16. With that engine, the skies the limit!
  17. Cool! Was just out that way recently... my uncle did the Finke race.
  18. Good stuff OME! Have a great break, and move of house! Regards, Tomo - from sunny Coober Pedy!
  19. This was while we were at Pittsworth, nice spot.
  20. Thanks for sharing Chris! Always try and keep a back door out unless you have an aerodrome in sight out front. Well, that's the theory isn't it. Can't really comment on your decisions about not turning back sooner as I wasn't there to see what it was like, but I do congratulate you on using your skills and doing a precautionary landing to wait it out. Well done on surviving an initial mistake and using your skills to continue your survival!
