    Update........🥴 Alternator removed for refurbishing. Replacement Bosch Voltage regulator on way too. All under LAME guidance and figment.

    I was concerned about the fuses too, checked all satis. i have since test flown the aircraft and the charging system is now correctly charging.

    Hi flyers, Well the silver box was in fact full of electronics! Yes I believe home made! But........with an adjustable volt dial inside the box. Sorry I couldnt take a picture with the box open. The LAME’s hand were in the way. End result Alternator checked OK ✅ Voltage regulator readjusted to 13.9v ✅ A very interesting exercise, I learnt a lot, and will promptly forget tomorrow! I do now have a spare Bosch RE55 in my tool box if the above fix is not ok. Thank you for your knowledge gents!

    Thanks Nev, I thought it might be a homie! The alternator is a Mitsubishi car alt, I have the ident number. It would appear to be from the around the 1990s at a guess. I have tried an internet search for the alternator, no joy yet but early days. Yes it’s belt driven.

    Howdy Gang, Help is needed to ident this voltage regulator thanks. If some one has the slightest idea on make n model have a go thanks. Overvoltage issue on an aircraft engine with a car alternator. 15.8v, no adjustment available. Three wire version? I haven’t traced the wires back yet.

    The engine though would only need to be a six of the hp required here.

    Wilbur and Orville Wright used to take it in turns to do the test flying/crashing of the Kittyhawk. After the 13th crash, after extricating himself from the wreckage... Wilbur was heard to say to Orville “All this (gesture to the wreckage) just to bonk a few hostess’s!”

    Very nice to have CHT & EGT for all cylinders, only if you’re flying behind a machine that has manual mixture control. IMHO

    Many years ago my mates flew our caged canary to Pearce from Richmond. Later, I was told the canary could withstand a 60 degree bank turn ok, but.... anything more and her little legs collapsed on her perch. Needless to say after a 3 day Caribou flight to her home the little yellow canary never sang again! No earmuffs and she was deaf as a post!

    No, but I had to put the bolt in from below as the cap (taller than original) must be placed in the freezer before knocking it in the TW. Nylocked and split pinned through the bolt. Apologies, do you mean the bolts holding the spring leaf to the fuselage?

    Howdy, Finally worked out the TW is basically a pre 1976 Maule type. Caps not available any more but the ‘wings’ and ‘pin’ and it’s bearing are available. The local metal shop lathed a new cap. Great job!

    Thanks for the photo! Visited Coastal, didn’t see Stowe, no help. Have since sent photo to Maule direct, my tw assembly (not the wheel) appears to be a pre 1976 tw. Cap is not available (I found a plastic temporary one atm) sizing now different. The cap is presently the only requirement, as you say the locking bearing and pins etc are the same for mine. The internal main bearing (when it gets worn) will be required to be made here in a lathe shop. Aircraft Spruce show the breakdown of parts, and they also confirm no caps available. I am currently talking with a mate who rebuilds old cars, 1.25 inch grease cups may be coming! ?✌ Thanks to every one for your assistance!

    Trying to get to the bottom of it, I agree looks like early maule but the fork arghhhhh!

    Thanks onetrack, unfortunately I tried that but the tag disintegrated ? I’m inclined to think it’s a maule type, however I haven’t seen a ‘fork’ type tw on all the websites I’ve been active in.

    Hi Gurus, If a person could positively identify the manufacturer of the following tail wheel assembly that would be great. Please disregard the tail wheel itself, that will not ident the assembly. Reason, new grease cap is required, and I want to get a spare bushing too! Grease cap is 1.25 inch or 31.7mm All exact answers gratefully received. Please see attached photos.......

    Possibly another option, old fashioned, Aeromatic. Basically no control in the cockpit but sets automatically for takeoff and cruise. Aeromatic.com

    The way aviation has been since the first flight...... Wilbur was extracting himself from the wreckage of one of their Kitty Hawk aircraft crashes and Orville heard him say “All this just to bonk a few hostiess”

    Can’t fly the glide slope due over landing weight, mark one eyeballs need adjusting to stop hitting white wall.?
