  1. Good to see you made it. I can attest that the air was a tad lumpy and I am wondering if this may have exacerbated the problem. Interesting that you felt no difference in the handling after loosing the fabric. I am glad that you got home ok.
  2. Started in Gliders 1in 1968 at the upper valley gliding club north of Wellington in NZ. In those days it was in Whitemans valley behind Trentham but has been moved to Upper Hutt. Did my training in a Rhonlerch (wood and fabric), and a Rhonadler. (this was about the same time that the Blanik was a brand new glider on the market. Flew in 1968 and 1969 (20hrs) then graduated from the institution I was attending at Trentham and never got back into them. Always regretted that. (always wanted to fly a Slingsby dart but never got the chance (the club single was a K8).) Cheers
  3. All packed up and ready to roll. I will be there sometime in the morning.
  4. Thanks mate, I might take you up on that.
  5. I am looking to fly to the Holbrook flyin this weekend and am wondering about camping under the wing of the aircraft. I have tried to contact someone on the phone number listed on the HULC website but no joy. Will there be someone going into Holbrook for fuel etc,?
  6. now that is a bugs in the teeth machine!!!!! Cool, more photos please and updates as you have said. Really looking forward to the progress of this one!

    Impressive countryside. Great Photos.
  11. Checked the status of the Raa website this morning. No change from the old one, is it any wonder this site is getting flooded with new members. I now use this site as my main portal to all things Australian Recreational flying as the organizational one seems to have fallen over. Obviously they have other priorities. Website months overdue, Monthly magazines late or, at time not received at all. Its not rocket science. If I can design and get a website up and running in a weekend, the Raa one must be a doozie. I buy the Pacific Flyer magazine, they advertise the next issue date inside the front cover and they are on time. Come on fellas and female fellas, whats going on?
  12. The adventurous human spirit and mans inventiveness never fails to amaze me. This, and a lot of the other films aired on this site, show feats that are truly staggering. Really feel good stuff. Keep them coming.
  13. Keep them coming Paul, the more the merrier. The critics are there but if they haven't written anything and had it published then their "street cred", literary wise, is suspect. Good on you paul.!!!
  14. Most of us remember flares (and love beads and flying without wings (damn edit that!!) Quite a few, until we discovered aircraft, thought pilot was a pre run of a new series, wings was a pop group and instructors did PT (or PE if you like). Runways were for modelling and taxiways were for cars only. A Jabiru was a bird and cars raced in a circuit. Flares were trousers and landings were carried on outside the pub on a bad night. Good on you Girl with a Fox and Bat, street cred or not, keep doing what your doing, at least you are out there putting it in writing.
  15. Who is Paul Bertorelli?
  16. Looks like a great time was had by all. Great footage Tommo.
  17. I weigh 120 and have mine. Just be aware of the size of plane you will train in.
  18. This is awesome!!! At this rate my favourites folder is going to need a favourite favourites folder!
  19. I have 250hrs on a standard supercheap auto 17aH SLA battery, no problems. ($110 vs 200-300 for the gell.) Also run a small battery in circuit to take any peaks out of the line for my radio but itr is not really required. (good for recharging mobiles at Temora etc).
  20. Boaty, I would be very interested in any tips/planning/ problems etc you encountered on the trip back. Looking at a couple of trips out west and have not done it before. Very interested in your stops re fuel, etc. Maybe catch up at either mittagong or Albion park when you return. Have a good trip Maynard
  21. Just leafing through the copies of the Pacific Flyer magazines on my coffee table and I was impressed with the quantity of Raa-Aus registered aircraft on the front covers e.g The Starduster starlet on the September cover. I see very little written about this magazine but I guess most of you would buy it anyway. There have been some contentious posts recently about flying idiots. The latest issue of this magazine has, fortuitously, an article on this subject Looking at both Raa and Ga pilots. I have nothing to do with this magazine except as a regular purchaser. They always seem to be able to get the magazine out on time (the date of the next issue is published in the magazine). Surely a lesson for Raa-Aus whose delivery dates seem to be random. A small enterprise doing it well. Just my thoughts Maynard

So can anyone tell me what a real plane, and formal training are. I have my ppl exams, 300hrs in ultralights, cross country etc etc. So that makes me an untrained toy pusher (Is it that real planes actually leave the ground?)
  23. Thats gone onto the favourites list!!!!!. Sense of humour and a job very efficiently done. :DJ: Never tire of seeing this one.
