  1. Given the quality of the pilot trainees I see doing cross countries and landing at Goulburn, this worries me a lot. There is an old saying that if you pay peanuts, you get ................ And I am damn sure that I do not want ......... flying when I am in a passenger seat. Maybe it will be a tea, curry or me experience?
  2. yeah, bugs in the teeth, real basic seat of your pants flying. Imagine landing this on the wing of a 747!!! Rag and tube gold.
  3. What a brilliant display. Thermal, sideslip, land and taxi, with no fan. Great judgement. Love the grin at the end. One for the favourites list.
  4. By the time you got to the bar you'd die of thirst, bloody fliers, taking all the good spots!!!
  5. The smile says it all. Great video,
  6. Okay Maj, re the photos, I guess quicksilvers and scouts, what is the first one?. (correct me if I'm wrong. please) Great Photos!
  7. Wade Mahlo at Orange Airport was the manufacturer of the thrusters for a long time. He may still have parts available. The thruster business is for sale I believe. His website appears to be out of action but a phone call may help.
  8. Did this occur just after you had the carbie apart? Is the needle mounted above or below the slide. (I assembled mine wrong in the early days and had the same sort of problem)
  9. Looks great Ian, a lot of work involved in setting it up. Good one Maynard
  10. Go Tomo. if you don't ask, you don't get.!!
  11. I thought the idea of having the fuel pump on at take off was to ensure a good supply of fuel to the engine when needed most. Carburetors are designed to limit the fuel delivered and control the line pressure by the use of floats and jets. I am wondering if you have the wrong fuel pump on and it is over pressuring the system, or the needles and seat need reworking.
  12. David, Don and Carol, 100%. I have attended NATFLY, and camped under the wing, for the last 2 years in my yellow canary and thought it was BRILLIANT!!!! Remember the board work for us, we do not work for them. This organization is about (or should be) the sheer love, joy and fun of flying. Personal agendas and politics need not apply! Just my 0.2c Maynard
  13. Awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  14. They don't have to post do they? Dont like, dont post, easy.
  15. Don, I think GYFTS is better used at the young end of the range. The investment will get years of life and spin off attractions whereas empty nesters should be in a position to scrape up the dosh themselves. The youth of this country are its future and an investment in youth is rarely wasted. (I am 60+).
  16. By whom???
  17. Must have been intentional, note how the rotation was stopped once the jumper tapped the pilot on the shoulder and then jumped. The last jumper was lucky not to wear the aircraft.
  18. Sounds good to me to.
  19. coljones, check Ians post #14 in this thread.
  20. Go for it Pud, she's you aircraft and you do what you want. After all, any advantage to get the bank manager/best mate/spare time controller onside has to be worth it. Chjeers Maynard
  21. I wonder who has been causing ructions on the board lately that has been p....ing other elected reps off????? Causing maybe the odd resignation?
  22. If you want to fly CTA, get a ppl and a certified aircraft. Recreational flying is designed to be precisely that. We have victor 1, the sydney basin vfr lane, and other lanes around the country for access through some areas. I get the impression that some, and I dont mean you guys of course, are just trying to get around the medical requirements and expense of getting fully cta equiped. Just because your aircraft cost more that a 172, a warrior, or the mortgage on the space shuttle, and goes faster, doesnt give you the right to ignore, or try to circumvent the established rules. I think some people are getting away from the aims of the Ultralight, sorry - Recreational Flying - movement, which is to enjoy flight in a less regulated environment, in smaller aircraft that rely on your own expertise to maintain and service, than GA. Remember people, the idea of our sport is to enjoy flying, without big brother regulating the crap out of us, not to compete with the big end of the sky. Why would I want to compete with a 747 or other faster aircraft for airspace, when I have the whole of Australia, minus a little bit around a few cities, to play with. If you want CTA etc, thewn maybe its time for Raa-Aus to think of splitting and letting us enjoyment types get away from the pissing contests that some are attempting to start.
  23. The coroner is making "recommendations" only. Whether the organization follows them or not is up to the organization. I, for one, would argue the other way. I think Raa-aus are doing it correctly, I would not want my contact details available to all and sundry. I think CASA have it wrong. The point about the information on car registration and car owners is well taken and I fail to see that we are any different to car owners. The point that CASA are a govt body and therefore have to make their records public doesn't hold water. The RTA and their state equivalents are not required to unless there is a reason enshrined in legislation, as in Police etc having access.
  24. I note that the term "amateur built experimental" is used. The kit I put together is registered as a 19-0000 but is recognized as a 'type' aircraft. Nowhere does it say experimental in the registration. Are you not getting confused with CASA registered experimental aircraft. However, as I mentioned before, until they send me a letter, I am letting my letter from RA-Aus be my authority to fly over built up areas.
  25. Would be great if I actually had the magazine to comment on. Still hasn't arrived (still, its only the 18th so they haven't broken the record yet. Be nice to receive it in July sometime.)
