    I have a New Zealand Question. Due to the non response from an Aussie Importer, I want to know if anyone in New Zealand sells aircraft grade ply in 1.2mm thickness suitable for forming the leading edge of the Jodel. I can get it from England BUT the freight proves critical.If you can refer me to someone I will be very grateful.

    I am interested in gearboxes, props, wheels and prop ground clearance (when tailplane level) I am about to start the undercarriage and it all gets a bit critical. Best wishes Peter.

    1000 hours over eleven years is about as much as I could ever hope to achieve in my Jodel. What do you make of the thinking that there is a metallurgical issue with Jabiru and that cracking of components could create a motor failure in flight?

    An unexpected engine opportunity has appeared. It is a VW and is part of the estate of a pilot I knew well. He was meticulous and flew very carefully. It is complete, currently attached to an airframe which I do not want but all the accessories (except the prop) are useful for the Jodel. I have been invited to make an offer and have no idea how much demand there is for items such as this. What is a "reasonable" offer. Best wishes. Peter

      There is a Rotax ULS powered D18 at Te Kowhai, it goes really well.

    Sorry to be a pest Old Koreelah, but is there an important distinction between Jab and CAMit 2.2. I have done the Rotax DIY maintenance course (and have the certificate) so I have a small grasp of motors. Birdmanpete

    Thanks for that Noel B. My heart is swinging the Jabiru way. I have two Rotax 582s (one in a trike and one in a gyro) but the concensus view is that these are far from ideal. The Rotax 912 is the one people swear by but the new price is out of the question and for all its qualities it cannot claim simplicity. And I am hearing that BMW's face computer management issues. Which sees me reconsidering the Jabiru. Where should I start looking and what should I be looking out for. Best wishes Peter

    In the Aviationadvertiser.com I see a claim of 100hp from a BMW flat opposed aircooled fourstroke. It is based in Canberra. Priced at 7500. Claimed to be from an insurance write off m/c with 2500km's on the clock. It looks very nice. Any thoughts or advice ? Best wishes Peter.

      7and a half is ok IF it's the latest 1200 IF it's complete. otherwise buy a complete wreck from "Pickles.com.au" or Mannheim auctions.(you need all the ignition bits) they're oil/ air cooled and very reliable Absolutely brilliant as an aero engine ( See "Take Off G.M.B.H." on the internet) Cheers.     I fitted the tailplane and set up the trim push wire as you suggested. Perfect. The trim tab crank has two holes to attach to the tab. One hole is round and the other oval which allows about 5 degrees of float. Do you know why it is given that "float"?

    The thoughts about the fuel tanks are most welcome. As you are NZ based I have a query about ply supplies. I am a little short of 1.2mm Mahogany Oy. We have an Aussie rep for the manufacturer (based in Finland) but they repeatedly fail to reply to my enquiries. I could get it from England or maybe somewhere in Asia but NZ is much closer from a freight perspective.

    Microman sorted me out on Trim tabs. Many thanks. What about the upholstery. Does anyone have a cockpit pic where the seat and back rest are clearly visible. Also anyone with a picture of a motor mount for rotax would be doing me a big favour. I have a 200 hour 582 ready to go but would prefer a four stroke if I can afford it. All tips and leads will be gratefully received. Best wishes. Peter.

    I am very grateful for that insight on the Jodel D18 trim tab. Now, if I may here is a second question. In my plans nothing is shown about the pilots seat or the precise position of the rudder bars. I am not all that big. (1.7m tall and 65kg) Have you any pictures which show seating arrangements?

    Hi, I am new to the forum. I am 73 years old and about a year away from the completion of a Jodel D18 which has taken shape over many years in a series of sheds hangars. Currently my kitchen. (OK, I know; I am probably certifiable.) I am hoping to make email contact with someone who is very familiar with structural details of the type. My first uncertainty is about the intended neutral position of the trim tab. I agree that the word neutral is a bit vague. Let me suggest either "take off preset trim" or (if it is different) "comfortable cruise trim". I have many other queries which the plans have not resolved for me but I don't want to scare anyone off. Best wishes. birdmanpete
