  1. Hi Skip, looks good but I don’t have a choice. Fuel injected Rotax with a high pressure Rotax filter - about 46psi.
  2. Pushrod lengths? Hmmmmm, I seem to recall that Lycoming or Continental has a range of pushrod sizes so you can pick the one that gives closest to the recommended clearance.
  3. ‘Call me old fashioned but I am always mindful of the blood and lives that have been expended over the last hundred years in learning how to design, build and fly light(ish) aircraft and I will not and do not deviate from established good. design practice. The purpose of the finger strainer is to increase the surface area through which fuel can flow to reach the fuel outlet. Mine have a surface area about two square inches. In other words, you need an awful lot of large chunks of gunk to block a finger strainer, much more than would be required than to block your usual AN6 line. ‘’A good filter system has a (corse) filter, then a medium filter (the gascolator screen), then a fine filter in order to trap the maximum of contaminants without clogging up and lines and fittings should be sized appropriately. ‘’As for Savannah fuel caps and gaskets, I just shake my head. Don’t ever use silicon sealer or silicon baffle material(that’s the red stuff) or teflon tape. anywhere in any fuel system. Those products have killed a lot of people used that way. Skippy, with respect, I think plastic in line filters belong in lawn mowers, but then my aircraft is probably twenty pounds overweight for thinking like that 😛
  4. All dick has to do is distribute that letter with a covering note in the electorate asking people not to vote for Anderson.
  5. forget the arrow unless you always have loooong runways.
  6. Skippy, why? why? Because in the renewal I am asked to provide exactly the same information as I provided the last four times ai renewed my ASIC! This includes producing the same birth certificate, passport drivers licence, addresses as before! And this is supposed to be the digital age? All that should be required is a new photo, updated address and a declaration on one half page
  7. I still require the step ladder in addition to the jerry cans. Ikea seems to be best, but takes up space.
  8. I am afraid to say that Pprune has “gone corporate”. $$$ are now a consideration and the place has been captured by regulators. Anything and anyone “controversial “ is now removed.
  9. I still have my old 1968 cardboard commonwealth radio operators licence. VHF plus HF. Came in handy in Croatia when we chartered a yacht. also have the international competency certificate. ‘Son has a master 5 ticket. ‘Friend hired a “professional skipper” to drive his new yacht from Sydney to Brisbane. 72 feet , 2500hp - MTU V12s with ZF transmission. I got concerned when this guy didn’t know what the gearbox “get you home” bolts were. Then by his utter reliance on GPS and chart plotter. Then when he tried to cross the Yamba bar. Then how he tried to moor the boat. Yep, unqualified Sydney water rat. Owner thought it was a joke until I pointed out that his insurance was void with this bloke at the helm. 8000 ltrs diesel used. It was a great trip, mostly. Next adventure will be the boys taking it to Hammy. I’m navigating 🙂
  10. applied for renewal today - an unecessary PITA.
  11. KGW, I always use mogas from a busy brand name station. However if you are touring, you are stuck with using Avgas from the bowser as very few airports have mogas dispensers. The alternative is the tedious business of jerry cans and taxis - and I fully expect airports will eventually ban that practise - for (ahem)safety reasons of course.
  12. The Rotax Avgas rule is that oil has to be changed at 50 hrs instead of 100 hours if 100LL is used for more than 30% of volume. The lead builds up on gears, sludges in the oil tank and fouls the spark plugs. Decalin Runup is an acceptable (by Rotax) fuel additive to 100 LL that minimizes problems by scavenging much of the lead by converting it to lead phosphate which mostly departs in the exhaust. Mogas 95 has about 3% more energy content than Avgas anyway, but the Avgas has better vapour pressure and long term shelf life.
  13. It’s a pity there is no AOPA and RAA submissions. We will be ignored, marginalised and treated as cannon fodder. What should have been stressed is the potential GDP Growth out of the private flying and GA sectors. Jobs, investment and growth opportunities.
  14. Jackc: Correct........until someone photographs you with more than a millimeter of sunlight underneath your wheels, at which point you are in contravention of the Act. I suppose you could try flying at night.... A part 103 bat?
  15. If the aircraft is registered it is an "aircraft" if it also has a certificate of airworthiness it is flyable. You touch it or run it without a licence and "Ping"".
  16. As a holder of both licences, my own observation is that RAA does not require the same BAK.
  17. Good idea, but we would mess the execution up.
  18. AC43-13b1 is your bible. It’s online
  19. Looks good to go..... Maybe a little PVC tape wrapped around the hose 😛. ‘’Seriously, what’s wrong with a couple of AN - 6 fittings and a bulkhead connector?
  20. Jackc, I have had the experience of attending an accident involving a “daredevil” pilot who flouted the law and common sense in a trike. All sorts of low level thrill seeking stunts..... until the motor stopped from lack of fuel and he crashed into a lake. Unfortunately he survived. His passenger didn’t. It is unclear what the law will do to him. Unlicensed, unregistered? You had better have your assets in your wife’s name...
  21. Had an instructor once who was only interested in money. She always was on the lookout for the next ab initio student she could fleece. But then she fitted right in to the club atmosphere at the time - the place became all about making money out of south asian students, locals, even if they were members, were regarded as a nuisance and an impediment to making money out of foreign students. The quality of instruction also became #@#@ as good, ethical instructors left, I even remember going on a refresher with a “south asian” instructor who I then discovered knew less about controlled airspace procedures than I did. The club was not interested in improving members flying skills or knowledge, just chasing $$$$ from overseas students. Hiring a club aircraft for a week or touring became “difficult” because it “interrupted the training program”. Needless to say, I did not renew membership. I wouldn’t piss on them today if they were on fire. Serves them right if Covid upset the applecart.
  22. -2 Aircraft tefzel ground firewall to block - same as for starter +ve as solenoid is a remote separate item, not part of the rotax starter. Hydraulically crimped AN terminals. One common grounding point for the battery and block on the firewall and tied to that is an Aeroelectric (?) grounding block with about 20 spade connectors. All audio and radio are shielded and grounded one end only to that block. All terminals are amphenol diamond grip crimped.
  23. Grounding the Airbox stopped the noise.
  24. Waraton, I believe the figure is 50% for original builder completion. I am aware of at least one project that was given away to a new builder. ‘’The Zeniths are great kits and great aircraft. So are RV’s. The RV is for the younger builder. If you are 60 or older, build a Zenith. It’s quicker and by the time you finish you should still be able to fly.
  25. Got a multimeter on the engine today..... The engine airbox and throttle body assembly is NOT grounded to the engine block. I don't know if this is by accident or design. The central throttle wire core inside its teflon sleeve, and throttle spindle is not grounded either. When I touch the throttle spindle, I get ignition/computer noise in my noise cancelling Bose headset,, but not if noise cancelling is turned off. My ignorant speculation is that the throttle wire is radiating RF noise enough for the headset electronics to be affected. I assume at this stage that if I ground the throttle wire/airbox assembly, the noise will stop, but I want to check with rotax first since the 912iS has two completely separate electrical systems with their own isolated grounds...
