  1. Shags, I think there is a private strip about 2nm NE of crows nest but don't know too much about it or its suitability for fixed wing, If it is owned by the person I think it is, he operates a R44 out of it. Strip is about 600metres long with a lot of high ground around it...other than that next best (and probably only option) would be TWBA)
  2. Easy done Tomo, go into town, get the photos done at the (Milnes) photograhers, have the other documents you require with you, photocopied including old ASIC..get the photos(takes about 15mins and $12..) then go into the courthouse and get them all validated as true copies....walk outside and go next door to the post office..chuck everything in an envelope and send registered mail to ID Aus...then wait patiently for your new asic..
  3. Another good idea is to grab a Planning Chart Australia (PCA) which contains meteorological Area Forecast boundaries and locations, communication coverage outside controlled airspace and WAC coverage.
  4. My heartfelt condolences go out to Sir Graham and his family...a terrible loss:sad:
  5. great photos....
  6. mmmm...Dick Smith as CEO of RAAaus, he certainly would enjoy picking up the mantle and running with it...bit of unfinished business there with CASAs reforms so it could be a good win for RAA or a huge loose...certainly be interesting..so Dick, have you applied for the job yet?
  7. and when all else fails...use a checklist:contract:
  8. gidday Mikey, Haven't been to Broken Hill for a while now (copped a really rude and unfriendly fuel guy so I flight plan accordingly) but last time I was there there are plenty of tie downs east of the terminal in front of the hangars. have a good trip
  9. Gidday Jack, What sort of accommodation do you require, there are camping facilities on-site if you want to rough it under the wing (hot showers will be available) or if you need a motel pm me with your details and requirements. PS website will be up and running this week, will give the www address when its confirmed over the next few days
  10. If its not raining....
  11. no that was "barney" in the 55, I was supposed to fly the 52 over but had "home duties" better luck for the DHCM:thumb_up:
  12. Yep all the way from Dalby:laugh:
  13. David Hack Classic Meet never dissappoints so we will be there with the Yaks ( I know not warbirds but...)
  14. NO, had to go to toowoomba some things I am told are a little more important than what I want to do:helmet:
  15. Yeah. Clifton is on..Barney flew the 55 over there today and I was supposed to fly the 52, but got caught up with domestic duties (been away all week) so dipped out. might try to get over tomorrow if I can wangle it with "she who must be obeyed"
  16. You will need to have a recognised BAK pass in your logbook to sit the ASL cyber exams (for you Tomo either at Archerfield or Maroochydore the closest venues) exam schedules are on their website (with costs) as for preferable text, Bob Tait is a little easier to read than the others although all excellent and comparatively priced. another option on the theory is of course the "online version" which you can enroll..comes up if you google. On the flight training side, the 150hr course is only something to consider if you are going to do full time as there are a few requirements that need to be addressed. (all in the syllabus on the CASA website) Get some guidance from Darling Downs aero club as they are the closest to you and are geared better for part time training (200hour course) If you like, PM, phone or catch up personally if you would like a more indepth and unbiased discussion regarding this.
  17. Yep Crashed just like my dad's :big_grin:
  18. Yeah, we wont be able to go tomorrow..friends flying up and we will be playing in the local circuit, but we will go over next month.
  19. here 'tis!! NICO BRAAS COLLECTION No. 6811. de Havilland Australia GLAS II Suction Wing Glider (A57-1) Royal Australian Air Force Main menu Larger image Next Braas photo Braas menu :drums: Original built as a DHA-G2 glider this aircraft was delivered to the RAAF on May 6, 1942. It was stored from 1946 to 1949, where after it was converted by the Government Aircraft Factory for wing suction trials. It was fitted with a wing designed by Mr. Griffith that contained the GLAS II suction system developed by Mr. Glauter. A 96 hp Mercury 59A engine provided the power for the suction system. The aircraft was tested from early 1949 to July 24, 1951 and the aircraft was struck off charge on December 17, 1952 and subsequently disposed off. Created September 30, 2007
  20. I remember reading of an example of an glider that the military (WW2) were using which was fitted with an engine which sucked air over the top of a very thick chorded wing. The glider was towed by another aircraft and was designed to be used to deliver troops well behind enemy lines. now if I can only find where I read about it, I could post more info and a pic here :bad computer:
  21. Yep thats him..does he come on here or is he still making his home brew when he's at home, did he ever finish off that zodiac?
  22. Thanks Tom, Barney was under the impression that it was this weekend and I didn't think it would be on and nothing said about it, probably take the yaks over, we got the 52 back in the air today (rebalanced prop)
  23. Anyone know if Clifton is on this year, can't find any date claim anywhere?
  24. Hats off to Ken good on him!!! Maj..can you tell us what Eric D is up to these days
  25. Well we got 8 planes in as well as the locals and had a good time I think, now to see if everyone can get back (one savannah in particular will be waiting for the lake to dry up at home) It was great to meet up with those that made it out and missed everyone that couldn't make it (Carl, Ian, Andy, Brian and Ron and others), we will be doing it again (next time I'll consult the long range forecasters) Money raised at the brekky is going to a very worthwhile cause with the food donated by the local SPA store, Hanger use donated by Dalby Aircraft maintenance (thanks Glen and Lisa) When it gets cooler, we might organise a hangar bash on a saturday night, fly out saturday arvo, enjoy the night and fly home after brekky sunday. :)
