  1. Who would want to be an L2 anymore? One can buy or sell a VH Cessna, or Experimental, regardless of condition, without a valid maintenance release in casa land. Why make it more onerous. I see more aircraft staying in the shed. RAAus registered aircraft have been in decline for some time now.
  2. That only makes sense from an engineering perspective due the wing fold. Having owned a low wing RV for 3 years, no you don't get sunburnt, no it is not hot, can have canopy open during taxi and climb is rapid into cool air. Inverting in an off field landing? Yes it is a concern, mitigated by having a reliable engine and plenty of fuel and oil.
  3. Have transported quite a few aircraft on a basic car trailer recently. 5P, previous preparation prevents poor performance.
  4. I don't think I have ever seen a video of an aircraft stalling and hitting the ground without at least a quarter of a turn of rotation. The rudder can pick up a wing however its purpose is to stop yaw. No yaw no spin. It is not that hard to fly correct airspeed at all times.
  5. You could get some corks and put say 500ml paint in sloshing it. Stand on end to drain excess paint.
  6. Yours is still on the register as cancelled 2009.
  7. What we hear on the radio is two aircraft following each other. What we can see "on the screen" is a conflict from the moment the trailing aircraft turns inside the other. This amazing level of situational awareness is available to any pilot even in the most basic of aircraft for a mere $500 while the adsb rebate is available. SkyEcho2 + tablet or iPad = enhanced traffic awareness.
  8. Final report out. No fault with the Cessna. Messed up go round with 40° of flap. https://www.atsb.gov.au/publications/investigation_reports/2024/report/ao-2023-048
  9. It must be the insurance. No passenger no risk.
  10. Does Enroute navigation have the documents, ersa etc, that would be required for a ramp check?
  11. No, this is something nearly all active pilots will be talking about Boeing's existing EFB product, foreflight, is apple iOS only. Foreflight recently launched in Australia with all necessary approvals. What might this acquisition mean for existing Ozrunways android users? No further development or the base for global android foreflight EFB?
  12. The Joby crash in 2022 was caused by a single propeller blade failure which subsequently damaged other propellers. Joby prototype lost propeller blade before 2022 crash: NTSB | News | Flight Global WWW.FLIGHTGLOBAL.COM One of Joby Aviation's pre-production prototypes broke up mid-flight after losing a propeller blade during envelope-pushing flight-testing in February 2022.
  13. I have always said the two would be linked together. Can't have double standards in plain sight.
  14. Are you suggesting pilots of higher performance aircraft like your sonex should have a casa class 2 medical?
  15. Be aware that denting the pipe may cause a slight bend, good in that it will give more clearance, just be careful if this will this will impact the alignment into the cylinder head or muffler.
  16. I would go with the dent. Try squeezing your garden hose down to half diameter with your thumb, minimal flow reduction. I would form the dent in a press using 50-60mm bar stock on the same angle as the engine mount tube.
  17. Self declared has been working just fine with RAAus for 41 years now.
  18. From the February casa brief Director of Aviation Safety, Pip Spence We're launching into 2024 with the much-anticipated introduction of the Class 5 medical self-declaration scheme. It allows many private and recreational pilots to self-assess and self-declare without the need to see a doctor. It's a significant initiative we've been progressing as part of our General Aviation Workplan aimed at reducing unnecessary cost burdens and simplifying regulatory processes. While the Class 5 won't meet everyone's needs, it was informed by strong feedback to introduce a scheme that didn't involve a doctor, is based on comprehensive risk analysis and a careful examination of what other safety authorities do overseas. The fact that Australia is the first jurisdiction where pilots will not have to see a doctor or medical practitioner made it difficult to find comparative data on the likelihood of impairment or a related accident. That's why we've taken an initially conservative approach and put in place operational limitations on what you can do when flying with a Class 5. We've noted your feedback on the need to keep looking at the operational limitations and we'll continue to gather safety and risk data to inform future decisions on whether we can remove or relax the restrictions.
  19. Some time in February 40 years ago I did my solo in brand new out of the box Wheeler Skycraft Scout mk3. Fearless, cautious, somewhat knowledgeable about how aircraft fly at age 21, it all went well. The three axis 18hp scout was a very good performer with a light pilot. Sold it after a year and moved on to a Thruster.
  20. I think turning down wind in ag ops has some things to think about. The aircraft is making a climbing turn from the surface and can be seeing an increasing tail wind due wind gradient. Also remember they are turning back to the next pass in a racetrack pattern so more bank and yank may be required compared to turning up wind. I agree the down wind turn is a myth if you are not concerned with the actual location of the aircraft at the completion of the turn.
  21. Good point, they probably fly correct airspeed or angle of attack, which ever is their preferred method.
  22. There is no stall speed limit for group G. This would allow my RV6a, 53kts stall to be eligible. Mine is definitely staying VH reg. If I can't pass a class 2 medical or the new class 5 then it will be sold. I feel it would be worth more with VH reg.
  23. At the commencement of the base turn the adsb data is showing 79 knots ground speed and 1500 baro altitude. Shortly after plus 50 knots and 800 feet lost.
  24. Very unlikely the seat slid back. All Cessnas have a secondary seat stop fitted now. Checking this and the seat rails is done at each annual. ADSB data shows the aircraft pitching down not up.
