  1. Some pics show a four cylinder air cooled two stroke.
  2. Having an external wire clip securing the vital clamp nut seems less than ideal.
  3. Sudden increase in turbo boost was to much for the track conditions. Early model with no traction control or traction control turn off, experienced driver would have been able to execute a nice drift. Dashcam videos are educational in the same way as aircraft accident reports, they allow us to see what really causes accidents.
  4. When Soar was at their apogee RAAus member numbers exceeded 13,000, they have now fallen back to 11,120. Coincidence? or did "our" company do alright out of this sorry mess?
  5. My friend with a 912 experienced a cracked filter due to a hose clamp. Fortunately the crack was only small. Spin on oil filters do not come off.
  6. Looks like a Scout mk3 with the big 18hp robin engine. I enjoyed learning to fly in mine and had zero issues, I was well prepared with theory, young at 21, light weight so performance was good. Growing up on a farm and operating lots of different machinery was also helpful. We see all the time very well trained pilots with lots of experience still stall and spin aircraft. Airspeed is life.
  7. The 0.5 orifice also prevents the oil pressure spikes hammering the sensor
  8. I have one of those lithium jump starters that cost about $150 on ebay. It easily starts my 7l diesel cat55 tractor when it has a low battery from sitting in the shed to long. After checking the safety aspect of taking it flying with RFguy it is perfect for recharging personal devices when flying to remote camps. I must admit I always thought these things were a bit of a joke with their tiny leads, they work.
  9. Before I learned about Knipex flat jaws a few years ago I would have agreed. The Knipex do all the same jobs without leaving any mark.
  10. No need to sling it underneath with all that room in the back😁

    Skins

There is a lot of precision required for the thruster skins, the stitching has to be mm perfect or they will not fit properly. I replaced the skins on my 1988 t500 in 2017 for the first time, Alan at wingtech tested the old ones and they still passed OK, if the skins are good and the aircraft is in a fully enclosed hangar they last a long time. Have ultralam now which is very UV resistant and completely washable, it always looks beautiful. Similar to the Bushcat material.
  12. I would add a universal screwdriver, the one that has 1/4 and 5/16 hex with small and large Phillips and plain bits. You could also substitute the shifter with a 150mm Knipex flat jaw pliers part no 86 03 150 if you like spending money, they are very good and useful. Will un do a 1 inch or 27mm nut. Need to be realistic about what you can fix on the engine, airframe. A mechanic who will have all the tools might be required.
  13. Send an email to [email protected] requesting a hex code for your RAAus aircraft make, model, serial number and rego number.
  14. Agree, I can still remember the 300x600mm by 5metre box my new skycraft Scout mk3 arrived in. Might need a little bigger for the Rans and a few hours dismantling.
  15. Now the OP's question has been answered we could talk trailers and brakes, I feel responsible because I mentioned the over rides brakes on my simple trailer. As anyone who has ever owned a xxxxing trailer will tell you the electrics often have problems, one or all of the lights not working etc, electric brakes are no different. They will work perfectly until they don't, just have to hope it's not when you really need them. My mechanical disc, wire rope operated over ride brake is simple, easy to test and check and it just works all the time without any of the issues turbo mentioned. As others have mentioned drive as if the trailer has no brakes and live a long life, just like flying, always have margin.
  16. Yes plastic under, all complete now with doors. Tiny hangar holds two wonderful short wing aircraft.
  17. I bought a new registered 2 axle Mario car trailer 3 years ago for $2800. They would be more expensive now but you would get most or all of your money back if sold in good condition. Light weight, over ride brakes, ramps, 2 ton gross vehicle mass, they are perfect for aircraft transport. Just need plenty of old foam mattress.
  18. Yes the stainless steel part that joins the wing strut and the wing lift wires to the wing front and rear spar. They would almost certainly have been replaced if wrong type however never assume anything with aircraft.
  19. That is the serial number, built in 1988 number 302 in total, mine is 088-286. Facthunter was talking about the strut fittings, they must be spot welded together, not welded along the edges.
  20. Yes the airworthiness directives or what ever they are called for the thruster are available on the RAAus website.
  21. Flutter also occurs when things get loose, working rivets, cracked parts or worn control rods etc. The Vne on the turbine conversion DHC-3 was reduced from 180? to about 140knots because of earlier issues. The accident aircraft was not speeding.
  22. Cirrus has the answer. Insurance and maintenance costs on a retractable would negate any fuel saving. The Baron/Bonanza has a single mechanical gearbox to lower gear driven by a small electric motor, hand crank about 80 turns as a backup.
  23. I am saying any coarse material that can pass through the in tank finger strainer will not block your fine filter in the gascolator because they will fall to the bottom of the gascolator.
  24. It is not Arrons hangar, yes it is 393. I think I flew it a few months ago, so many to choose from😁
  25. Only gyro pilots know how those things work.
