  1. No, I haven't found any rivets jet. But left the cardbordbox with rivits and bolt for last thing to sort. Guess I gonna hate it. I get headaches just from thinking about nonmetric bolts, washers and nuts..... This stupid stuff has numbers instead of dimensions. @ Richard we can be glad, we don't have to sit right side in our savannah's. Hmmmm, got my clecos finaly. Had to drive 2 hours to customs, just because the parcelservice wanted to make some extra money. They sad, they had to give it to customs for personal pickup, because the papers where not in order. Offered to do it for just 28,50€.... Guess what, the papers where perfect!!! Sorting moves along nicly now. But I got 2 more missing parts and one bend part. Don't know if I just have to bend it back, because it is bend 3D.
  2. Did almost 16 hours of sorting this weekend. It worked great now, thanks to the help of SKEE. Really this excel-file does the trick! I have to add some tings, because its from 2013, but thats no problem. I think ICP should definetly provide a packing list, with each kit !!! After some concideration, I hung up the bigger sheets. I had a pice of cardboard 3 m x 2,2 m. Put some reinforcements on it and ended up with a perfekt envelope. So not much space is needed and my wife can drive her car into the garage again. No ice on the windscreen any longer. Also spend some hours to fabricate firewood and put some into the fireplace. Happy wife - happy life...
  3. I dont' worry much about the fiberglass parts. It will work out just fine. Sure, you could make them 20% lighter and/or 20% stronger. But for what? The parts are good enough and not to forget affordable. I don't think it would be worth it to redo the parts using carbon and other hightech. To much work for to little output. There are just 2 pair of parts that I might, just might reproduce in fiberglass. That are the the tips oft the elevator/stabiliser. They seem quite thick and heavy for there size, esp. compared to the superlight alloy skin. I have the stuff to do it lying around, so no extra costs. Or is the weight needed? Could think of weight in the back to balance the plane, if noseheavy. Or to counter vibrations.
  4. You are right. Just checked it. I had to put the words into google and got pictures of motorcycle tank covers.... sorry my fault.
  5. Wait, I have a picture of the cowling. My fist impression on the fiberglass parts where not the best. I don't want to complain (at least not to much). But when you are used to hightech, seamless, finished out of the mould RC-plane fuselages, you feel like 1960 seeing the parts in the box. The materials are the cheapest you can get. And the work seams a little unskilled or unmotivated. Could explain further, but lack the vocabulay. It is a little like the cleco pliers, which don't fit to the rest of the excelent crafted aluminium parts.
  6. Stupid Me! Or how do you say in english? As I wrote, I started to check of ( mark in list ) all parts that I unpack and sorted them into boxes. So far so good. BUT I used the summary list in the sparepart catalog. WRONG, this catalog has 13 capters only!!! So I had to redo it. This time I used the building manual to just sort things into boxes per chapter. Unfortunally the building manual doesn't give a good part list. Some chapters have a list at starting page, some don't. Some parts are used in different quateties in differet chapters. So no list to check!!! THANK YOU Skee for the excel-list. That was exactly what I was looking for! Did you make the list by yourself, or was it provided by ICP? Next Step... while further unpacking the box, check against the excel list and think about rechecking the already sorted boxes or not. What is this talk about flush tank covers? The don't seam very flush to me? Flush means nothing sticks out, right? Or was this ironic and I failed to grasp it?
  7. Wheels will have to wait..... a long time. The only thing I concerned about is if I should store them like the are. The are somewhat crunchy. I don't want them damaged just from lying around. And YES the big empty box contained the cabin frame. So many parts.... have to move on with sorting things out. Wished for some parts to have a hat to do it.
  8. Options: dubble sticks, hangar hanging, 6x600 tyres, park break I don't even know what seats I got. Hope the version for the tall guys... Still much to early, to miss much. Funny thing was the 2. box.... nothing realy in there.... ;-)

  11. In order to check for missing parts and to sort things into chapters I put the manual, sparepart list e.g. into our office scanner. It tock an hour, but now I have a serchable pdf of everyting. At least in theory. Unfortunally the OCR had big problems with things that have no meaning, like part numbers... to bad. It helped anyway. You just have to try an o instead of zero... I started to sort/check parts by the spare part summary. It works, but I allready got 10 parts, with numbers not in the list...!?
  12. Yes, you are right. Some sentences are funny (NOT that I could do better...NO), But even more funny is the german translation. It reads like italien to greek to english and back. ;-) But as long as I have you guys, I'm not affraid. Just thinking about scanning the sparepart lists in the back of my book and putting it to an OCR program or better making a pdf-A file out of the scan. ( pdf-A is a searchable version of "picture" files )
  13. It would be so much easier with something digital. Just press Contol+F ... put in your number ( you could even take a barcodescanner ) and you get to the right page.
  14. The Eagle has landed.... the boxes are in perfect shape, no damage. So first step is to check / count / sort the parts. I was told by my distributer, I have 14 days to report any missing or damaged parts. Later on, there would be no warrenty. What is the best way to do it? I was under the impression, ICP would provide something digital to do it. A pdf file could be easily serched. Exel would be great. How did you do it???
  15. Hey guys, I don't want to hijack your threads any longer to ask stupid questions. It ist time to start my own. My kit should have arrived some days ago, but didn't. Next estimate is this Thusday. Right now I'm a little itchy. I cleand up my garage and workshop for 8 weeks now. And it is enough. First I put everything from left to right and back. Later I really started to get rid of some stuff. Guess I will miss ist soon, even though I didn't used it for years. A couple of months ago flying a plane, let alone building one, was a very, very distant dream. O.K. I was an aviation addict for all my life. Built rubber driven planes when I was a boy. Age 13 I saved up all money from birthday and chrismas for 2 years to buy a rc-control, but was denied by the officials in the former estern germany. Did it and doing it still, when the wall came down. Have two great boy, who are flying whit me. First with a student-teacher-cable, since last year both fly all by themselves. October I met a cuban born builder from EAA Chapter 66. He showed me his scratch built plane and we had a long talk. He sad: "When I see you literally crawling into my plane, I know something for sure. You will start building sooner than you imagine. What are you waiting for?" Well, here I am, attending flightschool and starting to built my Savannah. There is no german blog about building the savannah. So I thought I might start one. Everybody who can read german is invited to have a look. I'm planing on taking photos daily and counting hours and stuff. www.savannah-blog.de
  16. Some time ago I found this video about priming mating surfaces. Priming Mating Surfaces I esp. like the heatgun trick, but don't know if this is a healthy choice.
  17. The white etch primer might be a little more in weight, but it surely lookes highly professionel. I'm intending to use grey etch primer, after I finally was able to find an affordable source in germany.
  18. Has anybody ever tried or considered self-adhesive film. The stuff the use for car wrapping. I know of a german company with an all aloy breeser. BREEZER AIRCRAFT. Foliation It must not be the print version for me, but it should be quick an easy to have a two color finish that way. Friend of mine is a professional in this area. He is making and applying foils to street trains and busses. So I might try.
  19. What about using a rivet gun and bucking bar to set the solid rivets?
  20. Hey man, now I recognise you. Your the one, who built his Plane in a second floor apartment. Still remember the part, when you had to reopen your wings, because your inspector changed. Wish you good luck!
  21. Last count: 10....everything o.k. @IBob So it is an angle drill. Have some waiting, sweping up, preparing days left, before I can try. 3M deburring weels are hard to get here and very expansiv. I was lucky to find some on ebay. It's kind of funny but sometimes frustrating how the markets differentiate. Actualy I read a lot in this forum and watch how to videos from EAA. When it comes to the question to where to get the recommended stuff it gets difficult. Put self etching primer into amazon.com. You get 1000 results. Try that on amazon.de. You get none. For large pieces I use a pneumatic die grinder with a smaller wheel similar to the one on the bench grinder. This is done on large sheets that are too big to use the bench Grinder on as well as lightening holes that you can't get the big wheel inside. @Nobody ... thanks I will try it exatly this way. Pneumatic die grinders come in very different versions. What rpm range are you sugesting?
  22. I'm wondering if this will work for deburring. After a long fruitless, search I found some 2 and 3 inch scotch bright weels. The angle drilling machine (don't know how you call it in english) is 900 rpm.
  23. So, we will need a lot more. Unfortunaly aircraftsruce.eu just incresed der price for copper clecos from 0,80 to 0,88 € .... grrrrrrr Also had no luck, with me calling some former builders. There seems to be kind of a intimat relationship between builder and cleco, that is bound for eternity.... So, what about my offer to share a shipping of best US-made clecos from browntools.com ??? Can you put your brand new 50 clecos on a kitchenscale and tell me the weight?
