  1. Apparently Ross was test flying a GA Lightwing...they have a smaller wing and are a little faster I believe. If my memory serves me Ross said they had some handling quirks that set them apart from the GR model. But regardless of any of that... this accident has all the hallmarks of pilot error. For some this is a hard thing to face when it is someone who commands the legendary stature amongst pilots that Ross did...but there it is. Personally I don't see it as an attack on a mate by talking about this... I think it would be a slap in the face if we weren't honest. Anyone can make a mistake. True...it is early days yet...but the reported facts, as sparse as they are support this currently.
  2. I am wondering whether this was a PARTIAL ENGINE FAILURE?
  3. Ross was the second most experienced powered pilot I have flown with... and they are both now dead from crashes (not accidents) in the same circumstances.

  6. The question I prefer to ask myself is...."What would have been the outcome if instead of pushing for war the British had pushed for peace with Germany?"
  7. And the winner will be The insurance companies...when we all stop them from paying up...ironically the exact thing they exist for. Bastards make billions...and then lobby to cap payouts the poor babies. $360,000 cap for injury payouts - theage.com.au Injury payouts may be capped at $250,000 - smh.com.au Applied Economics - Is injury compensation excessive? (short answer is NO) "In Australia, excessive awards in personal damage cases are widely perceived to have created a public liability crisis and cuts in valued services. This paper analyses whether awards for damages are excessive. The paper starts by setting out a normative basis for awards based on welfare economic principles and amounts that individuals are willing to pay to avoid injuries. It then provides estimates of appropriate compensation sums for 27 typical injuries ranging from broken arms to quadriplegia and severe brain damage. There follows an analysis of 192 court awards for injuries greater than $250 000 in New South Wales between 1991 and 2002, including awards for 101 traffic accidents, 64 workers compensation cases, and 27 personal injury cases. The paper concludes that these court awards are broadly consistent with economic estimates for damages and that the awards are generally not excessive."
  8. I wonder what the black strap going under his chin and over his head is??? It looks like a strap for his officers cap but it stays on his head when he swaps the officers cap for his flying cap. Anyone? My thought is it may have been related to his injury from a previous crash...? I've seen footage of him with bandages around his head but not like this.
  9. I wonder what their definition of an "Ultralight" is...?
  10. Holy cow!
  11. GA is dying in the USA.
  12. Yes...they shouldn't 'skip' that important step.
  13. It's a Cutlass... it was a short lived US Navy fighter.
  14. Oh no. Blue skies Pud.
  15. Some photos from my Dad...taken in the late 60's I believe...over Mount Isa.
  16. Famous last words.... "Low flying with the gyro is fantastic dogging the beach goers and the surf." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JQxI4Y6T710
  17. Let's hope that is the flying God's three and they leave it there.
  18. Not the best publicity... "Many of the safety issues that we will hear about today arose not from the novelty of a space launch test flight, but from human factors that were already known elsewhere in transportation," said Mr Hart.
