  1. It looks like wood splinters...
  2. The first "flown" homebuilt aircraft I ever saw was a BEDE-4. This was a long time ago when I was a kid. I clearly recall the verdict from the adults wasn't complimentary...and there was much discussion about Jim Bede's business practices...and the fact that the tailwheel on this one had collapsed...and appeared to have been just riveted onto the rear fuselage as an after thought... To go with that I have read some rather exciting flight reports from BEDE owners... My take... is that there is a fine line that seperates positive and negative public opinion... and how bloody lucky was Burt Rutan to have avoided this. I think experimental aircraft back then used to truly be "EXPERIMENTAL"...and so was the industry.
  3. He certainly has a reputation...something to do with selling kits for aircraft that were unproven I believe. It seems pretty standard across the US industry... Was it all a beat up or is Bede a crook?
  4. You didn't think much about anything... or in fact go to the link above and read any of the policies of the SPP. If you had you would know just how silly that question is... and that the SPP has a solution. It is about "Sustainability"...not stagnation...or indeed repeating ad nauseam the same failed remedies driven by a flawed ideology of the past.
  5. I reckon Clarkson would love Russia. It would suit him perfectly.
  6. Dick already endorses the SPP... http://www.votesustainable.org.au/media_release_dick_smith_endorses_sustainable_population_party_in_2014_wa_senate_election
  7. I need to know more but based upon his population stance I would. The Sustainable Population Party has been around for a few years now and I have supported them as much as possible since then...it doesn't have his name on it but was founded due to his research on population...
  8. Amazed at the number of us claiming we would vote for him without knowing his policies...helps explain a few things...
  9. Yep. No loansies. Mine has already gone up in value because it's signed by the author!
  10. And I reckon the Yanks will love it too...
  11. Do yourselves a favour and get a copy. I got mine a few days ago. It is bloody awesome...spelling mistakes and all! It has a real special vibe to it. You won't be disappointed. This is like Biggles for Ultralight Enthusiasts...
  12. I've got to say Frank... having been a witness to your appearance on Facebook... You do it like someone 50 years younger and seem to have taken to it like a duck to water. I've been very impressed. You really seemed to just "get" it.
  13. I don't think that is fair... I have seen more communication from Ra-Aus on Facebook in the last 2 weeks then in any previous period...Nothing safety related...mostly fun posts... which is exactly what Facebook is good for...its a great way to get new people involved... just tell a young person to look it up on Facebook and you have a resource 100 times more useful then the magazine.
  14. My recollection of events is more like someone/s in the AUF at the time saw a business opening in "Recreational" General Aviation and hijacked the Australian Ultralight Federation to pull of a balmy and ineffectual attempt to manage said business. Explains the hiccup... the Federation was never structured to perform the job it took on... it was structured to manage a network of clubs/club like organisations on behalf of CASA. Brings us to today when suddenly yes... thanks to the AUF/Ra-Aus...army call it....CASA has realised there is a market for Recreational Flying and is just updating their regs to better provide for a market segment that...lets face it... was always theirs.
  15. And that will be the death of Ra-Aus Andy... kids don't have the money to go flying.
  16. Hold on to your old copies... magazines will be as rare as hens teeth within 50 years. I reckon there is a serious quid to be made here so pass those old mags on to your grandkids. http://www.ebay.com/itm/281160368969?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
  17. It's in the National Library of Australia for flying out loud!!! (Lol) http://catalogue.nla.gov.au/Record/1854473
  18. I always liked the Magazine in paper copy... why? Because in my opinion it always was and always will be a bloody good read... It is a shame to see it go. I guess I have no problem with paper disappearing...we have to be realistic....but it is a sad loss.
  19. It is an LNP Government. Even though Truss claims to be a National Party Member he is still at the beck and call of the Liberal...which ironically in Australia stands for profit at any cost "keep it all sweet and you too might win the Old Rich White Guy Lottery" philosophy we seem to be finally waking up to.
  20. NO... they fired themselves when they stopped administering to "Ultralights" and started trying to take on the bottom end of GA. I am amazed that their hasn't been a BIG outcry over Michael Monck's letter in the February (I think) magazine about competition. I read it to say "Its all over unless something political happens"... CASA is back and RA-Aus is now irrelevant.
  21. Bloody awesome! I feel really bad for anyone who missed out on their NBN... personally I reckon the online mag is amazing... Sadly the first thing I read from Michael Monck about competition indicates worrying about the Ra-Aus magazine is like worrying about a mosquito bite when you are being trampled by an elephant...
  22. Yep....its sparked my interest.
  23. That sounds more like a small quarry...The BIG mines leave great areas that have no more in common with the natural order of things for the area they have destroyed then neat orderly rows of pine trees in the plantations on the South Coast.
