Question re MTOW increase
Kyle Communications replied to red750's topic in AUS/NZ General Discussion
Officially CASA says yes...BUT RAA havent done their part in getting all the finer bits sorted and published ..it is called Group G and is up to 760kg MTOW but a max stall speed at 45kts -
There is absolutely no difference between a normal Rotax engine and a certified one except a extra letter on the serial number...its not a different engine...it just comes with different paperwork....bureaucratic bullsh*t
-
If you build it they will come :)...experimental we can use if you of course build a experimental or your own. There is no difference what so ever between the 2 versions except the certified one is for commercial ops. It comes with the required paperwork to make it so. For private ops I would expect you can use the experimental one but not if you are taking paid pax

To go into Class C or E you will need a full power ADSB OUT transponder..thats all they care about..the ADSB IN is for your cockpit...so I think currently and it would make sense for ASA and CASA that they subsidize the full power TX and if you want the ADSB IN then you get a SE2
-
Transmitting equipment here must be approved and typed by the ACMA I think this is probably the hold up. Usually anything the FCC approves it will get a aproval here
-
I believe so..its been approved in the USA but it hasnt been released yet here but is expected to be. It is being used in the USA as I know a few there using it now I really like the satcom side of it but not sure if thats a free service or what yet. But that makes its truely a worldwide service and no ground stations are needed

The TailbeaconX is a ADSB OUT only ...that gives you the full output power 200 or 250 watts for distance to send your realtime data. The SE2 is used as your reciever for ADSB IN. The only shortfall I see is the SE2 needs its own external antenna to increase its "looking range" It will see up to 40nm with its own inboard antenna but that totally is only if it is placed in a good position in the cockpit. Many things can affect it due to shielding inside the cabin. The SE2 with its 20 odd watts with a external antenna would be far better for IN and OUT which it does. Anything with radio as JackC will attest to as well is "height is might" no matter how much power you have the next is path loss. That path loss also includes what is blocking you transmission physically

Well if CASA or the gubberment fella is going to front up a lot of the cost then get the best you can. The Tailbeacon also has Aerion the satellite based ADSB one as well as terrestrial and throw in a flashy bright light in the back for some bling....shit you have won me over Oh by the way I do have a SE2

Thruster...I have a MGL EFIS..it directly connects to it...I dont need the head

So why do you fly outside the limits...dont do what your not supposed to do and its not a issue...remember its always better to ask for forgiveness than permission I would much rather know where every aircraft is when i am flying.... you may not fly in a busy area...a lot of us do though

You can get a ADSB in and out with the GPS included for 5k...full power out etc

Havent had a lot of time lately to work on the lower cowling for Mabel due to some family stuff I have changed my mind about 10 times when trying to come up with something for the cowl to be functional but sort of reasonable looking. Because I have the big bore fitted I need to make sure I have enough water cooling so I have changed the angle of the radiator to expose it a bit more and also widened the intake area to it. The oil cooler has always been fine as most know even in winter you need to block off about half the oil radiator to keep the engine oil temp to about 90deg C I have started shaping the cowl a bit now but no pics as of yet. I hope to get this shaped then make a mould that I can just pull a shell out of then with a std lower cowl you just graft this onto your bottom cowl then cut out the inside so it should allow you a bigger muffler and better cooling. Hopefully you will pick the different versions I have gone through. There are 2 pics where you will see a lot of resin and micro (bog) over both sides and a bit on the front..this will be the basis for the new lower cowl...I am working on getting the side shape a bit better -

Not my idea for the coreflute Danny Leach is modifying his lower cowl for radiator input on the Esqual he is redoing and he came over a week or two ago to grab some bits from me and I saw he was using the coreflute to make his scoop....hahaha thought it was a great idea as well. I used clear hd packing tape to attach to the cowl and the sides to the bottom are just hot glued together for the moment..this should make it solid. Then I will fill those big corners with that blue or green surfboard foam stuff and I should be able to start shaping it. The coreflute also gives yo the clearance from the internals to the cowl. Then once shaped I will cover the whole plug with tape and then run a few layers of glass over it to get the solid shape...then i think I will use that as the as the mold. It will aloow anyone then to put a bigger premade section onto their existing cowl then just cut out the inside. Well thats the idea :)..will see if it works. The coreflute I got from Bunnings...the sides are 3mm and that front more substantial piece is 5mm -

Yes well when it comes to the way CASA works you may as well throw a crap load of marbles into a hat and start pulling out them only one at a time to see whats written on it then toss it over into the corner and look at it later. Everything seems to be so convoluted...The left doesnt seem to know what the right is doing internally there. One medical for thos another for that..so many finiky rules ...the FAA and the UK body have a much more refined and simpler system CASA just dont seem to want to make life simpler -

Got a bit more work done tonight on the new cowl molding. The radiator is now at what I think is a far better angle. Originally it was probably stock at about a65deg lean back now its about 40deg and the opening will be made larger to get more air through the radiator. I dont think it will add too much drag at all. I have used corflute to get the rough starting shae to clear the radiator and down to the front of the muffler where I will make a new fence to drag the air out. -
yes every Sav we have supplied a Eprop to has got around 90kts at 5000 rpm The previous exhaust systems are crap..3.3litre capacity....I havent see the current muffler supplied.

This engine is a big bore and should need more cooling obviously. I have never been happy with the angle of the radiator in the cowl ..even on the GF. I never had any cooling issues with the oil temps but the water on really hot days it used to climb a bit so I decided to mod the radiator angle as well. I had to mod the cowl underneath anyway for the larger exhaust and its position so will just make a new section that gets glassed onto the current cowl then cut out the original to just leave the new shape. You can see in the pics the cutting away of the original cowl to get the clearances I want. Just have to come up with some filling material to make the new atachment which I will make a mold of in case anyone else wants to put a better muffler on a Sav. I will still make a new set of exhaust pipes later but the current ones will be fine to get her flying -
New throttle system for Rotax

Drifter11 I have all the CNC parts here and waiting for the laser cut stainless mounting parts. I have enough done for 50 units at the moment and orders for around 40 or so. I will send you a email but I have not finalized the price yet but it will not be very expensive. The CNC costs are the most expensive parts so far -

Its taking so long to get anyone its crazy..at least we have all the gear though..most new places cant get the materials to even start building or renovating...as well as trying to get someone to do it. I have plenty of work to get done so gives me a buffer until they get back but really they will just be doing the final external finishing the main thing is the house is pretty much all weatherproof now. This week I hope to get the cowl modified and on the way to new molds made and cutouts..then finish the avionics wiring now I have the pressure switch for my auto electric fuel pump and then get the twin sticks in. Wont be too long before I am ready to start the engine. I hope to have Mabel down to the hangar for assembly at the latest in the new year -

I havent had much time this past few weeks to work on Mabel. We look after my father and moter inlaw here at our place and things physically and mentally so a lot of time is taken up there. The past 3 weeks I have spent the majority of the days up at our farm as we finally have got our builder there...getting tradesmen now is so hard ...We finished as much as they could as they have other programmed jobs now and I hopefully will see them back late Feb is when I am booked in. The house now is to lockup so now I ahve the electrical to do and get the plumber and plasterer there...god knows when they will turn up. I should be able to get some stuff done now on Mabel. This weekend I finalised fitting the original cowl..I do have to mod the top half at the back to make it fit to the top deck. I fitted the exhaust system I made for the GF with the bigger muffler as the lower cowl will need to be modified for the muffler also the radiator positon and cooling inlet may need modifying. The pipes for the exhaust is pretty agricultural and need to be remade. Danny and I have been working on a new tube bender..a proper one that doesnt create or dent the tubes. I have the water circuit pipes pretty much sorted for the moment so they need finishing off but at least they look reasonably good. I will make a whole new exhaust when we get the bender finished. I got in titanium tube 32mm and also 1mm titanium sheet. also got some solid titanium bar as well 35mm. We use titanium sheet at work and we ordered a stack of it from the manufacturer so I piggy backed my stuff on the works shipment. So we are going to make new mufflers and also have worked out how to get the full tuned lengths for the exhaust headers even for the savannah. The RANS S-21 will be a lot easier as there is a heap of room behind the engine so can easily get the right lengths. This we believe will add at least 3 to 5 hp to the engine. Mabel and the S-21 have big bore kits fitted so should be hopefully around 118 to 120hp. -
