  1. How would that relate to prop pitch settings? A Rotax ground adjustable prop set super fine would pull 5800 easily....... And going the opposite, lets say WOT at cruise pulls 5200 max rpm. (Rotax's minimum WOT spec). If the "fine" engine pulls throttle back to 5200 will manifold pressure be the same? Surely manifold pressures aren't the same?
  2. That is a key point! Aircraft are slower but in closer proximity and more at risk. If someone calls "turning base", you know roughly where to look and lights make picking it up easier. At cruising speed, miles from anywhere they might not be very useful. A front on profile of an aircraft is hard to see so flashing landing lights are good. If someone mistakes a RH circuits/runaways or joining opposite mid field crosswind or calls the wrong runway on takeoff while you are head on, on final, you REALLY would like to be seen or them to see you!
  3. Not if you NEED to access that airport and there are not many other options. Accessing class D can give you immediate access to fuel, to hire cars, to maintenance and to accomodation. The "work arounds" of not accessing class D can cost more in time and money (and time IS money) than getting the qualification. ASIC's have nothing to do with class D airports. There would be far far more CTAF's requiring ASIC's than class D.
  4. I have one. It's not really useful with a fixed prop and/or non turbo engine I think. It does vary with throttle position. I don't take much notice of it. Most "loading" on the uls is based around RPM. Speaking of turbo's, a turbo normalized set up would not require any leaning at all would it? You're effectively at sea level all the time. Any Jabs with turbo's around Bruce?
  5. All good mate....Just having a dig. Glad you like the pics. Off into the desert tomorrow. We'll see what contrasting pics are taken compared to today's scenery....
  6. I'm not sure what to make of that? ? Should I be offended?
  7. As far as I'm concerned "special vfr" means "I'm only vfr trained but I'll give ifr a crack..and see how it goes!"
  8. It's all done and has been functioning perfectly. Both landing lights are connected to the same LED "flasher" unit so go on/off together. They are quite close together so perhaps from a distance they look like one bright light. As OK said wig wags need good separation to work effectively.
  9. I know a pilot that has exactly that. Raa cert, RPL with cta endorsements. He can fly his 24 rego plane in class D any time he wants. And yes, he does the one GA bfr which covers his Raa bfr at the same time.
  10. Derby..19/06/20 The boat ferries supplies to koolan island mine.
  11. Kuri Bay pearl farm. (Play spot the float plane...) 19/06/20
  12. If you can get the landing light flashing, it's far easier to pickup and see than just "on".
  13. I find them good for transfering fuel but not for carrying fuel onboard..
  14. Couple of things... When I changed my halogen landing light to a LED unit, I added "fixed ON" or "FLASH" with an LED flasher unit from Jaycar and 3 way toggle switch (Very easy to wire. Only one + wire from switch to light). I'm waiting on some green/red LED navigation bulbs and lenses to come from the US to replace my existing units. ( fixed on) They are said to consume a lot less power than normal bulbs. They have a variety of bulbs and stuff....not bad prices ( for aviation). https://www.aero-lites.com/
  15. My travelling refuelling setup if anyone is interested. 1 x 20L fuel can (actually holds 24L) 1 x 10L fuel can (actually holds 11L) Folding trolley from Bunnings Folding Plastic step from ebay. 2 x 750mm bungy cords. Mr Funnel Soft cloth to put under fuel can on wing. Stops scratches and can sliding. Mine is actually fuel/oil absorbant material. Works great as a mat. Fuel nozzles for pouring manually. Small battery powered (2 × D size) pump. $9.99 at supercheap...lol. Doesn't get the last 5 litres or so.. Notice the "foldback clip" cable tied on the pump hose to clip to the mr funnel.....Flash ay.... Small cloth to wipe off dirt etc...... Oh yes, almost forgot the stick, 1 x fuel dipping stick! I prefer to use 95 or 98 (RON for our international visitors) ULP. However if I am suspect about the fuel, I "shandy" in 10% or 20% avgas if I can. Just as a bit of insurance. The last thing you want is fuel problems when remote, very remote! To add a bit of perspective to some non Aussie's. Day 1 I traveled 572 nm. Day 2, 725nm......... So 1297nm later, with no backtracking and tracking a fairly linear course, I'm still WELL within MY STATE............ Another 320 nm next week and I'll finally get to the border.
  16. How about more than one link in a signature for First class members?
  17. Not an aerial shot, but interesting all the same....taken 18/06/20.
  18. A town and strip in Western Australia's northern "wheat belt".
  19. Yesterday, 16/06/20. Pilbara, Western Australia from 9500...
  20. Done by the Aussie Dynon dealer...so I suspect it should be good. ATC not given me any grief over it, unlike the aircraft the other day that was at 1800 (below the step)......atc seeing them at 18 000, near a major international airport!
  21. Avionics tech checked my mode S/adsb-out TX for about $150 I think..... Got a certificate for my maint log book. Valid for 2 years. I was with him and helped to some degree. Very interesting to watch how it's done ( for me anyway...)
