    I have some sympathy with the latest incident when the controller mumbled "continue to hold"... However, at this point in his aviation career he probably should fly with a safety pilot.

    Yes Geoff, one of biggest annoyances. It caused the crash of a 747 in 1989. ATC radioed to the flight, "Tiger 66, descend two four zero zero [2,400 ft], cleared for NDB approach runway 33." Captain Halpin, who heard "descend to four zero zero" replied with, "Okay, four zero zero" (meaning 400 ft above sea level, which was 2,000 ft too low) https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flying_Tiger_Line_Flight_66

    No experience but I believe headsets like that are more for quiet cockpits and cabins.

    I'm surprised no one has written a comprehensive book about Jabiru..... The govt seems to be handing out millions for inane and ridiculous reasons at the moment, so perhaps an opportunity for some one. (They have given a company 1 million to start manufacturing Polywaffles again) No doubt touted as one of the great infrastructure investments of 2020....sarcasm:happy:

    I agree about the heat, I don't think there is much insulation. (Wouldn't be a problem on a trike anyway) I did it initally as there was some surface rust forming on the new engine exhaust and in the long term I would be looking at exhaust replacement. It looked bad and the price of a new exhaust made my eyes water...... I think it was about $350 or $400..... Don't spill anything on a hot coated exhaust or spill something on a cold exhaust, then run your engine. Wipe it up.... You may get a stain or discolouration. ....

    Had my 912 exhaust done....twice now. Still far far cheaper than having to replace it. First coating was a chrome/silver finish. Looked outstanding new. Started to fade to a dull gray quite quickly. After 4 years I had it recoated in turbo black. This has been on 4 years and still ok. The turbo black had the highest heat rating. Because aircraft exhausts are so thin they really get hotter than other exhausts. I had the work done in WA at cic ceramics. Plenty of places over east to get the same job done I would imagine. Make sure you get the highest heat rating.

    I don't have much straight infront of my red cube but installed about 250mm of straight hard pipe before it and it works ok. It's also mounted fairly horizontal but with a slight incline. As you know it should probably return to a tank, but I know a few that just return to a "Collector". It eliminates the problem of constantly filling one tank...even when turned off. As long as you're not just circulating hot fuel, I don't see a problem.

    Buy a couple of 6mm bolts about 80mm long and cut the head off. Use a nut each side of the P clamp bracket and cover shaft with heat shrink like you say... Or just push over the bolt a bit of 6mm hose.....

    If the oil doesn't stay suspended and mixed and "drops out", you may get a "slug" of oil coming through...... Some of the plastic jerry cans don't have a wide enough hole for the large avgas bowser spouts. Make sure it's big enough....
