  1. In the US atc seem to be able to call the emergency but in many countries it must be the pilot to call it. Perhaps a legal issue. I've heard atc try to coach or ask a pilot "Do you want to declare an emergency? ". I don't like the US system as it is not a clear responsibility.
  2. Because this may have been the cheapest way for the teaching institution to give the ILLUSION that students will get their cpl with the knowledge they probably won't.....
  3. Authorities have been long aware that the VET system has been, and is being rorted to the tune of billions of tax payers money. Very little in the way of responsibility and accountability ever seems to be forthcoming from the politicians and those who should be overseeing this lending. https://www.macrobusiness.com.au/2019/02/australians-continue-pay-vocational-education-rorts/ https://www.smh.com.au/politics/federal/hundreds-of-millions-lost-from-vocational-scheme-20191206-p53hqk.html This is from December 2016 (3 yrs ago) .......ironically it asks "How did this go on for so long?" yet here here we are in 2020 and it's STILL going on. https://www.afr.com/policy/health-and-education/stupendous-incompetence-how-did-the-vetfee-help-rort-last-so-long-20161220-gteziw
  4. I'm hoping some passports have been confiscated and bank accounts frozen.....
  5. Agreed. Perhaps that is why so many take the "head in the sand" approach, do the minimum and just hope it all works out.
  6. Oh no!......now you've started it.....
  7. Very very interesting Franky. With instruments on(lights off), my volts sit at about 13.9. I'll try and find my cut off voltage. My agm battery likes 14.7 fully charged.....
  8. I would have to agree. I'm getting about 263 kg usable load for a 152?..... very ordinary. Drinking avgas (24 lph)compared to unleaded 95 (17 lph) for a Rotax and compulsory "LAME maintained" is a negative, not a positive for me.... And 40 yr old airframes where ANYTHING costs an arm and a leg......
  9. WINDY..as per thruster...lots of stuff, not only winds at altitude. Thunderstorms, rain, clouds, satellite. http://satview.bom.gov.au/ Very good moving visual reference. Live! SEABREEZE APP....very good live wind app for coastal areas. BOM weather app.... FLIGHTRADAR24 APP... good for checking how close that rpt or flydoc is up your clacker....inbound.
  10. To some extent lsa pricing is relative to engine hours.... Probably more so than manufactured date and fit out... There is a Foxbat that has just come on the market locally (WA), 200 odd engine hours. 2007 build... ASKING $74 000..... Registered GA exp.... Not sure how much he could be knocked down, but could be good value. You might even be able to twist my arm to deliver it...lol.
  11. This is what I have to do EVERYTIME I post on a thread for the first time.
  12. Two INJURED foreign nationals and a foreign registered aircraft are worthy of an ATSB investigation. https://www.atsb.gov.au/publications/investigation_reports/2019/aair/ao-2019-075/ Yet Australian citizens and taxpayers DIE in recreational aircraft crashes and no one gives a hoot......
  13. Haven't made there myself yet..... Really really need to do it! Something always keeps getting in the way. Maybe this year.... anyone else up for it?
  14. No, because the lockwire goes through the nut AND bolt.....
  15. Obviously not an aviation certified whistle. Moving the decimal point one place to the right would probably be enough "certification".....lol. My bcf ones look to have the manual "blow" inflation tube as well as the gas cannister but not the whistle. https://www.bcf.com.au/p/marlin-australia-explorer-pfd-150-black/540757.html
  16. This looks good. A utility vest and built in inflatable life jacket.... https://www.freaksports.com.au/product/ultra-inflatable-fishing-pro-vest-l150/?attribute_pa_size=large&gclid=Cj0KCQiAxrbwBRCoARIsABEc9sikwpQz-inu3XYp1Eu_XkxHxRHdtqVcoDGrZhz_xqH-sSCY5yf-CaIaAoz4EALw_wcB
  17. If you are interested in getting the $40 back from your now used life jacket, it is entirely possible. 1. Go into bcf claim their "price match" policy and buy one more.(I know this works as I just got 2 for $118 half an hour ago) 2. Go into bcf sometime later (maybe a few days) and return the newly purchased life jacket with the original receipt for $99 and get a refund. Bobs your uncle, You have now purchased your life jacket for $59. For anyone who has bought and used an item, then seen it on special, this maybe a way of getting that special price retrospectively....... Big thanks to Cosmick ?
  18. There is a local active pilot and aircraft owner. He has always rented space and never bought or built a hangar. long term, owning a hanger is cheaper and he had the funds so it baffled me. Then I found out there was another partner in the aircraft. I had seen him once in 5 yrs...... Obviously this bloke was paying half the hangarage so for the active pilot renting was good value.....
  19. Maybe joining a long line of companies rebranding and marking up the same products "cause it's aviation quality".....
  20. Yeah.....was blowing 15 to 20 kts straight across 27 from the south when I left at 10.00...and picking up. Should have left earlier. Forecast shows 40kmh by midday.... Go early....
  21. Rotto yesterday..... just need to get in and out before the wind picks up. Earlier the better. Great pie shop! (Opens at 7.00)
  22. I don't see much difference in dedicated aviation versus some of the Marlin ones... https://www.aircraftspruce.com/menus/ps/survival_lifevests.html
  23. So, I'll need to set the trim tab to counteract the left yaw. (Move rudder to the right) As the rudder is directly connected to the pedals, this means I will still be be right pedal down (even if neutral ), so will therefore need to adjust the turnbuckles to level the pedals? I have no centralising springs on the rudder system as some do.....
  24. https://www.marlin-australia.com.au/ Aussie company. There are different levels. 50 to 275...... pick the correct level for your use. (Explanation at the start of their scroll through catalogue ) Available ebay, bcf, the usual...
  25. Yes, it's been like this for a long time and I've just lived with it. As the control surfaces have both primary and secondary effects it's a bit of a head scratcher where to start. The aileron has a fixed trim tab too. There is also the option of adjusting the turnbuckles to move the rudder....
