  1. ....... and so began Manwell's descent into insanity.......
  2. I'm not sure about commending the control tower. If they were doing their job properly this situation would not have arisen in the first place?
  3. I really see this 1/2 912 as dead in the water. They don't even show it swinging a prop or in a flying aircraft. As stated it's underpowered. Big bore aftermarket barrels/pistons would be cheaper to buy and give more power. Do you buy Rotax parts to fit it out? That would cost the price of a new 912 atleast. Do you strip an old 912 for parts? Complete and running "out of hours" 912's still have good value so you'd be destoying that. In 2019 it should be fuel injected. The 912 gbox would be far too heavy and would probably need a custom ratio anyway. Why didn't they use a 582 box or even a 503 which is 50hp... I do see merits in a semi-clone set up. Taking the heads for example and cam, oil pump system but other parts/systems can be done better and cheaper.
  4. I think if they had of gone the other way with a 6 cylinder it might have been more successful. Atleast someone with a 912 could "bump" it up to the 6 cyl. 6 aftermarket barrels and pistions with 2 extra heads and some other bits and pieces. Definately fuel injection. I think the gbox would be strong enough, atleast for 1000 hrs....
  5. It will need to sit in the casa employees inbox (paper or electronic) for a while to prove they are busy, even if they could do it immediately. It's important to "go with the flow" and not "rock the boat" in these monopolistic empires lest you become an outcast. It will also show future applicants that this is the normal time it takes. This is how it works in bureaucratic business.....
  6. You need a "letter of approval, (LOA)" from mfg or change rego to E-LSA. (No hire/reward for e-lsa)
  7. As pmc stated, it was a very heavily modified design. Almost all areas were modified to some degree so basically it was " experimental" in the true sense of the word. I wouldn't take any damage to this aircraft and imply it is the same with Wilga's in general or a factory design fault. I belive he may have extended and modified the wing tips? This is going to put unknown forces on the wing root, especially in an impact. What happened to this aircraft would probably ONLY happen to this aircraft. ......
  8. Just run ozrunways on a phone.....with a "long life" pre paid sim for emergencys. Hot spot it from the nexus to use wifi.
  9. I was given a tip once, with toggle switches. Use 240 volt rated switches in 12 volt applications. They will last longer and are not much more expensive.
  10. If the business venture with the Indians fail, the council will be looking to save face. And if the local pilots are smart they will come to the rescue. At that point the money has already been spent, so just utilising it (even for a token fee) will take the pressure off council. Perhaps people should look at this as a potential opportunity. The council could just as easily blow the money on a million totally non-beneficial things..... and no-one would have anything to show for it at all.
  11. Is it too late to be flying in the Kimberleys this time of year? Looking at heading up to Kununurra next week, so late September. I know it's hot but mainly worried about turbulence. I will probably do some local early morning flights and drive around but getting there will be two full days flying. I don't mind flying high (9500) but I've still been smashed by thermal at that height before.
  12. Yes, at least council are smart enough to retain ownership and put money into a tangible asset. What if they just gave the comany half a mil interest free loan? And then they did a runner..? There's a hundred threads on here deriding councils for not investing in airports. This council may not be doing it perfectly to everyones wishes, but hey, it's something for aviation.
  13. Need more "map marker" posts in "what's new". Definately not enough of them. Thrilling content.....?
  14. For some wierd reason, I keep thinking the Bat is suspended from the roof in your pic.....just the angle....
  15. Why aren't these popular? Too much time, effort and money (up front and ongoing) for what you get. Mainly, limited performance, weights and durability...... Ownership costs, hangarage, maintenance. Pay double or tripple for a plastic fantastic and get 10 times more capability at very similar ownership costs and with a 4 stroke better fuel efficiency and reliability. You still need to maintain a pilots cert and bfr for both.....
  16. With only 1750 coppies being sold, I think you need to review "everyone". If everyone wanted the paper mag there would be 10 000 sales and we wouldn't be in this mess.
  17. As far as I'm concerned m&m have reaped what they have sown. They removed the magazine from being included in the membership fee WITHOUT dropping one single cent from the fee. Then wanted people to pay outright for the magazine. Effectively double dipping......on the sly... I swore I would not pay for the magazine, and that still stands.
  18. Yes, but the option to reply "Stop the magazine" is not there, so it assumes ALL answers will be one of the two optioned. All questions could have the optional answer "None of the above"to give some fairness........
  19. I wouldn't worry about it. Lack of oil and cold piston giving poor bore sealing I think. As above, a leakdown test will find any compression problems if you're worried.
  20. A student pilot has made a dramatic emergency landing at Perth's Jandakot Airport during his first lesson in a two-seater aircraft after his instructor collapsed mid-flight. The student, a man in his 30s, called air traffic control just over an hour into his lesson on Saturday afternoon after realising he was alone at the controls of the small Cessna. "He's leaning over my shoulder, I'm trying to keep him up but he keeps falling down," the student can be heard telling the controller. It was the man's first lesson in a two-seater as his wife and three children watched him from the ground. The air traffic operator kept the trainee calm as he talked him through an emergency landing. "Do you know how to operate the airplane?" the operator asks. "This is my first lesson," the student tells him. https://www.abc.net.au/news/2019-09-01/trainee-pilot-makes-emergency-landing-jandakot/11468580
  21. More options... https://www.ebay.com.au/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=m570.l1313&_nkw=b8es+2411&_sacat=0
  22. Hello Alex, thanks for registering on this forum. One of my major concerns are the constant membership and rego increases. Not much individually but very consistent. (Death by a thousand cuts) We seem to have had good membership increases (more revenue) but the management of this monopoly can't seem to leave it alone. Over the last 10 years it has consistantly gone up in multiples of the inflation rate.
  23. I liked the 915.....until I saw the fuel consumption figures. In a nutshell...something like a 50% gain in power for a 100% gain in fuel usage.... Reports of 40lph flat out....and 30 something in cruise. I don't consider 40 lph for 140hp too flattering... It baffles me how such a high tech engine can have such poor fuel consumption compared to the non-boosted 912is...
