Just bear in mind that Dennis bought one of the first D-Motors from the production line. Now that two years have gone by, we hope that D-Motor have sorted out many of the teething troubles.
Hi Skee,
I think this sounds far fetched as well but I suppose it could be a remote possibility. But just keep this in mind: almost every water cooled internal combustion engine over the last century or so has a thermostat that stays closed until the required temperature is reached. It then opens to maintain a relatively constant temperature. This one factor is why designers opt for water cooled rather than air cooled engines.
In my feeling, there is something wrong with the design of the motor (or maybe just your motor only) that allows shock cooling from an opening thermostat to lead to the cylinder cracking. Hopefully, they will sort it out for you in Belgium.
Hobbies are there for personal enjoyment. So, if the good truly outweighs the bad, it is a great hobby.
I hope you get the D-Motor up and running really well so that you can enjoy your aviation hobby!
Those golden parts look attractive.
I wish I would have looked at your pictures first! I spent a couple of hours this morning web searching and ringing around here in Enzed: former stockists tell me that Alodine is a "discontinued product". I found out, eventually, that Bonderite 1201 is exactly the same stuff with a new name. It's $125.00 (+ GST) per US gallon here. There are only four gallons left in NZ so I decided to snap up half their stock.
If you use Alodine/Bonderite on the parts do you still need ICP's Black Goop?
I must have joined the "over here" side because I am building the shed first.
The plans have been with the Council for ages but we're in the fastest growing council region on the North Island of New Zealand. They boosted the number of building inspectors by 50% and they are still taking quite some time to approve plans. The frames are already made so it's a matter of getting the slab down and me getting the frames up soon thereafter, etc.
I still stand by what I wrote in post No 3: Great news!
Hopefully you won't have to move away from Melbourne again for some time, Ian! I also trust your work is fulfilling and enriching.
The fisherman is worried about getting 'told off' by his mother for engaging in fishing, which she regards as a dangerous sport!

The aircraft in question is a ten year old Zenith CH 701 from Opotiki. I am glad that this 701 had vortex generators rather than slats because the slatted version do not glide all that well.

At least this fisherman survived with just a headache and nothing more. I am thankful the injury wasn't much worse.
