  1. Perhaps turn the camera upside down next time you take a photo!
  2. I would like to know whether AluPrep is worth it too. Some people say it is dear as poison. Other say that AluPrep is likely to poison the aircraft builder. Most of the comments about AluPrep are not really all that positive.
  3. That is the first I have ever heard that the S is heavier than the XL! The icp website shows (in the specifications section of the S and the XL) that both aircraft are 286 kg. I had always thought that the rounded S fuselage would take less sheet metal on the surface but a bit more in the internal structure and that the two must balance each other out.
  4. Well done Corinne and Ian
  5. Then there is the primer which may weigh 2 or 3 kg as well. The total weight may be: 2 kg primer 9 kg top coat (three thin coats of paint) This equates to a total of 11 kg. I read a post a few years ago (which I cannot find now) that a Zenith CH701 builder weighed their aircraft before and after three coats of paint and the difference was 22 lb (close to 10 kg). It seems as if 10 kg is about right for a Savannah.
  6. Wow: the VNE of your GRS = 170 knots.
  7. Being a doc, CLOP would have been recognised as either: * CLoud Optical Thickness * or Closed Loop Operating Point Pressure. However, what I meant was clip.
  8. Hi Philip, to the forum. I'm an Australian living in Enzed as well (in the sunny Wairarapa) and it's nice to see you have a Savannah S. I would like to construct a Savannah myself, starting later this year.
  9. Looking forward to the clop Traveldoc.
  10. Think of it as lightening holes. A few more and your plane's total mass may end up 299 kg
  11. That's so cool rmorton. I look forward to plenty of pictures and updates.
  12. ...or it may stand for Steve/Shaun Malley!
  13. I think Smalley is a surname.
  14. Here is an alternative and it is priced very competitively too: JET ENGINE
  15. mm What cracks worse over time, the firewall or the top horizontal bar? ...or both?? For a new build, do you recommend putting in a somewhat heavier firewall and horizontal bar from the start? I think there is an in-between thickness too: either 1.25 mm or 1.27 mm.
  16. It is interesting how, in this crash, the large forces were so widely distributed over the plane. Even though this did cause many things to bend, I understand the person inside came off without injury. This makes the Savannah a good design (but tricky to repair after such a "landing").
  17. Hello all you aircraft builders that have completed their projects. I intend buying an aircraft kit which is grossly under-supplied with clekos. As a result, I need quite a few more. It occurred to me that there should be many satisfied aircraft constructors who have finished their aircraft who may have clekos left over. I, for one, would like to get hold of a good number. I have set up this thread for the purpose of putting ex-cleko users in touch with people (like myself) who need clekos. Consider this thread as an attempt at recycling a bunch of clekos thrown in a box in a garage or shed somewhere .
  18. I think that priming mating surfaces is a must. This will prevent trapped water by ecoming an electrolyte, becoming a battery with the effect that corrosion starts. Some use alodyne on their whole plane but that stuff is pretty dangerous to use.
  19. Thanks Zeke!
  20. Hi Nick, Welcome to the site. It seems like you have a truly ideal situation there in Stratford. May it long continue. Greetings, eightyknots
  21. Hi Smally, to the recreational flying forum. Regards, eightyknots
  22. Hi KK, Welcome to the forum. We would love to hear more from you over time. Perhaps you have some good pictures to share?
  23. It's getting curiouser and curiouser.
